Swallows Barn is a detached cottage, next to a working farm, in open countryside, in Litton Slack near Cressbrook village in Derbyshire. The cottage sleeps two people in a first floor king-size double bedroom. There is also a shower room on the first floor with shower, basin and WC, as well as a ground floor bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. The living accommodation comprises a kitchen, dining room and a sitting room with woodburning stove and access to the outdoor patio area with furniture. There is also off road parking for two cars. With wonderful countryside views to enioy and lovely Peak District towns and villages to explore nearby, Swallows Barn makes a great base for a holiday in the country.

Area
Cressbrook is a village on the River Wye, home to a mill built in the 18th century by Richard Arkwright. A footpath upstream of Cressbrook Mill leads to Water-cum-Jolly, a river gorge with limestone cliffs ideal for walking and rock climbing. Cressbrook is on the Monsal Cycle Trail and there is also a good pub in the nearby village of Litton, which serves food. Tideswell, Bakewell and the Spa town of Buxton are all within easy reach.

Although not for everyone the remote location suited us very well.. Solitude when required, but never far from all that the Peak District has to offer. As stated the cottage exceeded our expectations with an additional bathroom a particular welcome surprise.

Lovely , cosy, comfortable & spacious cottage set in a beautiful location.. Large comfortable bed. Plenty of clothe storage space. Well equipped kitchen. Good parking area. A bathroom and a shower room both with toilets is a bonus. Situated on a dairy farm it’s great seeing the cows coming and going to be milked. Highly recommended.

Swallows Barn is very imaginative conversion providing comfortable and practical accommodation in a beautiful and peaceful setting.. Full of character, it gave us everything we needed. The neighbouring dairy farm was not an intrusion at all, the farmers are friendly and on the days we saw the cows passing to be milked they provided an additional delightful interest. We enjoy self catering and the kitchen was good for this. We were aware that the cottage does not have WiFi but this was not a problem and helped us to ‘get away from it all’. Mobile signals are just a few yards up the road if needed. The cottage is in a great location for walking directly out into the beautiful Dales, or driving short distances to other good walks. It is spacious and relaxing inside and the paved small garden is fine too. We used our own camping chairs as well as the picnic bench. The local village had all the amenities we wanted. We enjoyed good weather and came away feeling very refreshed. A great place as a base for walking or to be in for relaxing, reading, drawing and listening to music etc

Swallows Barn was a perfect place to stay during our winter trip.. The location is well situated and found we could get everywhere we needed from here within 30 min. Sue offers a cosy warm and clean stay with everything we needed at a great value for these areas. Will recommend as the place to stay if you are wanted a quiet place with a greeting from the cows just outside. We felt safe and were in a spot with a few other houses so you don't feel completely in the middle or nowhere. Would love to return..

Swallows Barn is located on a busy working farm with dairy cow's.. Expect movement of stock to the milking parlour twice a day which is interesting and at times amusing to watch. There is some noise intrusion from the milking machinery, but this became less noticeable as our week progressed. We were wowed by witnessing the birth of twin calfs during our stay - awesome, especially when the calfs were on their feet within 15 minutes. The Peak National Park is excellent for walking and cycling. The National Trust has a number of properties well worth a visit. Nearby Buxton has plenty of shops for food and eateries. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and are happy to recommend Swallows Barn.

Spoke with Sue Hudson prior to arrival for key details.. Met Sue when we arrived (a very charming lady) Cottage had the complete WOW factor very clean, conversion of barn has been undertaken using the finest materials. It's a pity that some former users did not respect the quality of this holiday let. SatNav delivered us right to the front door, cottage is situated in a very rural location with the village of Litton some 2 miles away where you can order papers at the community shop. Will return to this idyllic cottage and location. Thank you Sue

An excellent few days away in a beautiful part of the country.. The cottage was comfortable and within easy access to the town of Litton which has a good pub with excellent food. Litton also has a good bus service into Buxton and Bakewell and further afield to Sheffield for a day out. We would certainly go back.

Lovely good size cottage on a working farm, not that it kept us awake at all, close to lots of walks and pubs, fantastic views of countryside and surrounding area, close to Buxton, Bakewell and chatsworth all only a short drive away..

This is a well appointed cottage in a lovely area of the Peak District with easy access to all parts' yet in a country location with only farm traffic and cows passing the door.. The owner is a very helpful lady and very keen to please. The cottage is well up to the standard we have come to expect from your company, which is the reason for our 'met expectations' comment.

This is the best cottage we have ever stayed in.. It was cosy, clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The rural location was excellent with great walks starting from the front door. We had a wonderful week and are hoping to return next year.

We had a wonderful holiday in the Peak District.. There is so much to see and do that we will definitely be returning. Our cottage was charming - very clean and well presented. We enjoyed being on a working farm and there were sheep and lambs in the field just behind the cottage.

Sue, the owner, is very thoughtful, sensitive and the cottage is spotlessly clean and and has all the facilities one could wish for.. It does not have wi-fi which is a good thing, as that means you get a break from computer-dominated life. This is an ideal location for walkers like us, being near the Mosal Trail; it is possible to access some good walks without necessarily using the car.

The cottage was immaculate, had everything we needed (and we cooked every day), wonderfully cosy and the walks available from just outside the cottage are very pretty.. We would definitely go again, the weather was not great but it didn't stop it being a special place to be. Many thanks for a fantastic holiday!

The cottage was delightful, in a lovely central but quiet location and we were very reluctant to leave the cottage it was so lovely. The cottage was immaculate. Everything was straight forward with the key and arrival. Expected the noise from the farm and it wouldn't put them off from going back again. Well priced. Decor and fixtures and fittings were great.

Cottage very well situated for visits to the High Peaks and the potteries. Lots of opportunities for lovely walks plus places to go in the rain. Booking simple and accurate.
