Our family of four had a fantastic week away in this cottage earlier this month. It is centrally located, with pubs, park and shops conveniently located only steps away. The recently refurbished cottage retains it’s character, whilst there is a stylish modern furnished interior with a very well-equipped kitchen. The owners have thought of everything, from a thoughtful Welcome Hamper with refreshments for us and even a separate hamper for our dog! There is a small fridge in the main kitchen and a spare fridge freezer in the utility room. There was one lower cupboard left empty for our food. There are three sofas in the lounge and additional dining chairs for seating if needed. A bistro patio set would be a good addition to the master bedroom balcony. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well kept. There is a small but well maintained sunken, paved courtyard area outside the back door with two picnic benches and a washing line. Next to this is a private parking area for three cars, tucked nicely out of the way of the main streets. There is additional short stay public parking for 30 minutes directly outside the front door of the cottage.
This was our family’s first holiday with our dog and, whilst the enclosed paved rear courtyard came in handy, we often walked him just across the road into Bath Gardens - a beautiful small ‘park’ for shorter walks. There is a lovely, large recreational park only 5 minutes walk away for a longer dog walk. Our boys also loved to take their football over to the goals at the park and paddle in the river there. There is also a large children play area here. We also enjoyed many great walks from the cottage, including the Monsal Trail. Chatsworth House is definitely worth a visit. Allow at least half a day and book tickets in advance online.
We visited Buxton, but much preferred staying around Bakewell. We found it the best town by far. There are so many lovely small shops and pub/restaurants to visit - most are dog friendly. The Wheatsheaf pub served an amazing Bakewell Pudding! The Woodward restaurant is definitely worth a visit, but book a table in advance. There is also a Co-Op supermarket only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage for essentials. There is also a market on Mondays.
Both the location and the cottage were amazing and we would definitely love to visit again in the future and maybe bring the grandparents (who would have been well-suited to the downstairs bedroom and shower room). Thank you to Becks and Ben for a wonderful stay!
