Area Bakewell is a charming market town with a rural feel that offers a nice assortment of stores, eateries, and bars in addition to regional farmers markets. The town's historic market hall dates to the 17th century, and a contemporary recreation facility with a pool is close by. In the Peak District National Park, Bakewell is conveniently located for visiting this stunning area. Within reasonable driving distance are Britain's top theme park, Alton Towers, as well as the rocky Dark Peak and the softer limestone White Peak. The spectacular caverns in neighbouring Castleton and Little John's burial site in Hathersage are both well worth a visit, as are the other stately homes to be visited, including Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall to name a few. Visit the spectacular Edwardian Opera House in Buxton, which was created by Frank Matcham, who also created the London Palladium.
