Every thing was perfect even the weather will be back many thanks

Wow! What a fantastic week spent in a beautiful corner of Cumbria.. Ewedale is pictureque, perfectly situated for exploration of the Lakes and South Lakeland coastlines and we would highly recommend a stay. The owners are very welcoming and clearly run a tight ship (clearly labelled facilities including a great recycle shed) with everything you need within the cottage (e.g. a fully equipped kitchen and very comfortable bedding) and they leave you to unwind after a day of adventures, without any intrusion. Thank you for a glorious week, we would love to come back!

Absolutely loved our stay at thimble cottage.. The bed is so comfy, and the rest of the cottage is extremely cosy. Owner Steve is extremely welcoming and kindly had a small bottle of milk and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our stay so much that 2 nights into it, we had booked to return again two months later. Would definitely reccomend.

Thimble Cottage is very well presented and comfortable.. It is located in a very rural setting and offers easy access to the Southern Lakes area and lower Lake District. There are friendly cat visitors which we found delightful. A secluded patio and relaxed atmosphere at the farm made the holiday a very enjoyable experience. Ulverston is close by and a lovely small town.

March 2018
Lovely cottage with everything you could need for a self-catered stay.. Only issue was steep narrow stairs which previous reviews had already mentioned. Underfloor heating was great and much needed after a day outdoors, but sometimes the thermostat went a bit crazy and repeatedly clicked on/off which was a little annoying at night!
Mr Burton
February 2018
The accommodation was very good.. Nice quiet location. Warm welcome. Only downside might be the steep narrow stairs to the mezzanine bedroom.
Mr Amos
December 2017
An ideal location for venturing into the lakes and visiting Barrow in Furness, Walney island and Morecambe bay.. Unfortunately winter holidays in the lakes can be tricky with ice and snow, so be prepared for the worst.........

Thimble Cottage was a great base for our holiday in the Lakes, everything we needed was there. There were eggs, milk and a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival. Stunning views everywhere we drove too. Proximity to the Lakes from where we were staying was ideal. Friendly people and great food, we would recommend The Sutherlands Pub and Restaurant in Windermere .

The property was in a fantastic location. This is easily one of the best holidays I have ever been on and the accommodation made it so special indeed. As a couple this was our first holiday away together and we will remember it forever!
Mr Stone
May 2015
The location of the cottage was perfect for our needs, with a 10 to 15 minute drive North to get into the Lake District area. The cottage was perfectly sized to suit a couple with all the facilities you could need and the welcome pack was greatly appreciated on the first night.

On arrival your met by the owner, a bottle of wine, a bottle of beer and fresh eggs. The cottage is quaint and welcoming and situated up in the hills of the Lake District. Ulverston is accessible by foot and Barrow in Furness by car. A lovely stay at a lovely cosy little cottage.

May 2015
After driving 400 miles to this cottage myself and my partner were pleased with the location, even with the sheep guarding the road out of the property that liked to play chicken with the car. The property is well sized to meet a couples needs for a place to stay whilst visiting Cumbria and offered a good location with a 15 to 20 minute drive North to get into the Lake District itself. Our only minor complaints and they are minor are that the stairs to get into the bedroom area are quite narrow and very steep so care is needed when going up and down the stairs.. And when we had some stormy weather the cottage did have some drafts around the main door and bathroom window. With those minor complaints in mind, and the are only minor! Do not let them put you off ... the cottage was a lovely place to stay. Complimentary eggs, milk and champagne were well received! The owners are very friendly and let you do your own thing with no interruptions and the local cats are also very friendly and don't mind being petted (Careful with the black and white one as she likes to nip/bite) Would definitely consider revisiting this cottage next year but me and my partner might choose another area of the UK to visit but should we want to revisit Cumbria we will most likely choose this cottage.
Miss Jones
January 2015

October 2014
This cottage is lovely. Modern while still having cottage charm. Wood burner and wood an added bonus. Loved the welcome pack of milk and a bottle of wine (nice touch), Well equipped cottage, in a good location for exploring the Lake District. Added bonus was the farm 'attractions' including three cats - as well as the goats, chickens and ducks that were on the site too.
Ms Jordaan
September 2014
The peace and quiet together with the location made our stay absolutely perfect.
Miss Pithiya
August 2014
Quiet, scenic views and not too far from grocery stores, gas station etc. Also yummy shortbread biscuits on arrival and appreciated the carton of milk in the fridge to start us off - overall a friendly welcome after a long day of travelling. Brilliant directions given by the owner - would have struggled with the sat nav alone.

August 2014
Basically a one room open plan modern cottage, bedroom is accessed via a short but steep staircase, for two. Fairly well equipped, just a few shortcomings i.e. no freezer compartment in fridge which we consider to be an essential appliance for self-catering especially in a remote location where the local village pubs do not serve food until the latter part of the week. Lack of instructions for some appliances could be a handicap for some. The cottage is grouped with another 4 holiday lets so you are not totally isolated. Ideal for walkers as there is a path quite close to the properties. It is possible to walk via the path network into Ulverston from the cottage, but be prepared for some hills though!! Overall we enjoyed our stay at the cottage and the stairs did not cause us two active pensioners any problems. We would certainly consider a future booking.
Mr Hoblyn
July 2014
A fantastic little cottage, very clean and modern. The owner was very friendly and helpful. A great place to relax and unwind in very quiet location. The eggs and short bread on arrival was a great thought and very much appreciated. This was a great location for exploring the lakes. We will defiantly be back.

A lovely cottage, very good use of space; lovely, warm and in excellent order throughout. Excellently placed for walking and cycling and very handy for lovely back road journeys into the lakes.

December 2013
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Thimble cottage. Couldn't have asked for better for what we wanted! It was refreshing and modern whilst still upholding it's cosy cottage feel. There was lots of tourist information available to be able to plan our perfect break and was within easy driving distance to some of the popular lakes such as Windemere and Coniston. Will definitely recommend it to friends and relatives and if we visit the lakes again in the future would definitely stay here again. Thanks
Mrs Ross
November 2013
Our second visit to Thimble cottage, and we enjoyed it as much as our first. Ulverston is such a lovely place, with yummy cafes, and some really interesting shops. We like being in the heart of the lakes, with the added bonus of a view of the sea. We hope to visit again in the future.
Mrs Reaney
September 2013
We had a lovely holiday in the Lake District, so much to see and do even if the weather is not the best. We went primarily to climb Scafell Pike and Helvellyn (via Striding Edge!), and to explore the the area. We could not have asked for better accommodation than Thimble Cottage. Set in a lovely quiet area it was a perfect base for our holiday. Everything we required was provided, and we received a warm welcome from the owner. When renting a cottage, for me the most important thing is cleanliness, Thimble Cottage was spotless. I would highly recommend the cottage, another great find via Sykes Cottages!
Mr Cochrane
August 2013
We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was perfect. It is only a small open plan cottage but for two adults we had everything we needed. Ulverston is a lovely little town only 5-10minutes away by car, and here we spent time shopping, and using the local restaurants and pubs.
Mr Lawrence
June 2013

Very clean and comfortable. Very well equipped. One small down is the stairs to the bedroom. It is narrow and steep. Elderly or disabled could find it difficult. The welcome pack is a nice touch. Lovely area without the crowds of the lake district.

April 2011
Thimble Cottage was located in the south of the Lake District and in a lovely secluded part of Ulverston. The cottage itself was on a renovated farm with 3 holiday cottages attached. It was spotlessly clean and really cute!! The owners were great and very helpful! They provided us with fresh egg's from their chicken's and a bottle of wine. There was lots of leaflets of things to do in the Lakes in the cottage itself so we had plenty of ideas for things we can do, which was great since we had a bit of rain! It was just a perfect place!
Mr Jarvis
March 2011

I was able to quickly identify availability, cost, and detail of various cottages through the Sykes website, and the booking process was simple and straight-forward. Thimble Cottage itself was well presented, and furbished to a high-standard. As a group we booked both this cottage and the larger one next to it. The hosts had provided us with local farm eggs, bread, milk and a lovely bottle of wine which were all very well received. I will definitely be booking this specific cottage again, and intend to use Sykes in the future.
Mr Brierley

We enjoyed our stay once we found the farm, It was very relaxing an ideal place to set out from for coast or mountains. Lots of places to eat close by, felt so refreshed after our week even though the weather was not so good, really enjoyed the museum Laurel and Hardy. The owners of the cottage were absolutely brilliant and the welcome pack and wine was really helpfull as it meant we did not have to rush out to the shops, nothing was to much trouble for the owners and we really enjoyed the log stove cosy night in. We hope to stay again and strongly recommend this property as it is modern clean and well equiped, and entertainment was provided by our hosts dog buster who can play football like I HAVE NEVER SEEN absolutely brilliant. Thanks for a lovely stay which did not break the bank. Graham and Lidia Toseland

Despite the weather we loved the way it's tucked away in the middle of no where, very quiet apart from the occasional animal noises on the farm, and the hosts were lovely and very helpful. There was a welcome pack of wine, bread and eggs which was a great surprise and went down well on the first evening. Information on walks etc were provided at the cottage. We had a great time and will definitely be looking to book to go there again in the near future.
Mr Brockwell

May 2009
Our hosts were super accommodating and helpful. I thought the little touches upon arrival were very sweet and unexpected. We also liked the fact that our cottage was really out in the sticks. Not too far away so that we couldn't visit the Lakes but enough distance to really be away from it all .. idyllic. We would definitely make a return visit.
