With crystal clear waters, Wastwater lake is 100 metres away and has many good swimming and picnic spots. Take a wild swim or hire kayaks and paddleboards from nearby West Lake's Adventure. Climb Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, from the head of the lake or enjoy a gentle stroll around woodland at the bottom of the lake. There are three pubs within 3 miles of the cottage and the village of Gosforth is 7 miles away and has shops selling groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go and newspapers. Take a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway, making a leisurely 7 mile journey through beautiful scenery to the sea from Dalegarth (9 miles). Blow away the cobwebs along the sands at Drigg Beach, 10 miles away and perfect for picnics and a dip in the sea. History enthusiasts will love Muncaster Castle where you can take in the history or enjoy the lovely grounds, and there is lots going on all year round, especially for children. Offering functional accommodation, this cottage has rustic charm with exposed beams and white stone walls preserving its traditional character. Discard boots and coats in the hall and head through to the kitchen to make a cuppa. The kitchen has an electric cooker, hob and microwave. Gather around the dining table for sociable mealtimes before retiring to the living room to snuggle on the sofa warming your toes in front of the wood burner and a DVD on the TV.
