If up is the direction which takes your fancy, climb St Sunday Crag or Catstycam, both 3 miles away with panoramic views, or take a well trodden path from the village up to the mighty Helvellyn range taking in Swirrel Edge and Striding Edge. Wander down to the lakeside and hop on a traditional Ullswater Steamer which journeys between Glenridding, Pooley Bridge and Howtown and can also drop you off at Aira Force (3 miles) where you can discover the tumbling waterfall.
