Visit Ullswater where you can board a steamer for a relaxing cruise taking in the splendid scenery or hire kayaks, jump in for a swim, try your hand at fishing or ramble among the fells. Alternatively, enjoy days sightseeing at Dalemain Mansion and Hutton in the Forest, both historic houses with attractive gardens, or the Roman Fort at Birdoswald.
