This cottage is just lovely. Plenty of room for a family with two teenage boys. Separate loo, boot room, so no falling over each other. Very well appointed, really comfy beds, shame there is no dishwasher but we can put up with it. Sitting outside watching the world go by with a gin and tonic... Heaven. A really great cottage, so lovely we booked it straight away for the next year!

Lovely cottage in a perfect spot, the only negative was that the kitchen smelt of old cooking oil and on checking, the cooker hood filter was caked in grease, really needs changing.. Apart from that it was every bit as good as advertised.

An ideal cottage within easy walking distance of both the local amenities within Grasmere, and the local Fells where numerous walks await the visiting guest.. Out of season Grasmere is an idyllic Lake District village and this cottage is right near to the heart of the village yet away from the hustle and bustle. Off road parking beside the cottage which lies in a quiet cul-de-sac.

The cottage is in very good location especially if you like walking.. Excellent walks straight from the door. House is small but just about adequate for the needs of 4 adults, and mostly comfortable There are a couple of issues which I would like to raise though. The parking for house is for one car only, which we knew in advance, but it should be also explained that for a 2 car party, such as we were, this meant a weekly additional charge of £30 as there was no off road parking in village. The parking that is available is very restrictive and requires driver to park in a very specific way. ( This was explained to us in quite a confrontational way by the owner of adjoining cottage and took me several manoeuvres after a long tedious journey on the M6!) We discovered later there was a diagram in the information book showing the correct parking position which could have been sent out in advance and which would have avoided this unpleasant situation. The other negative issue for me was one of the twin beds was extremely uncomfortable with springs pushing up at the surface of mattress. It is obviously old and needs replacing. There were other minor irritations which I feel could be addressed to give more of a welcome to arriving guests. E.g. the house was cool when we arrived on a cold, grey February afternoon, and having just experienced the hassle about parking the car, did not feel cheering. Apart from a few meagre sachets of tea, coffee , milk and biscuits, the now expected ‘ welcoming pack’ seemed rather mean. A few inexpensive touches such as a bunch of daffs on the table and a bottle wine in the fridge would have given us a more positive first impression, whichI feel, although not essential, is nevertheless important. Although this all sounds very negative, I must point out that on the whole we enjoyed our week and there were good things about the cottage: once the log fire was lit, the lounge was very cosy and the sofas were comfy. The bathroom was spacious with generous sized bath and walk in shower and the kitchen had a lot of equipment for cooking and dining. We were very lucky to have some great, unseasonable weather during our stay and at one point were even able to sit outside in the garden and soak up the views and sunshine. I think with just a few, easily remedied adaptations, I would be giving the accommodation a much more positive review. I hope my comments have been helpful.

A wonderful cottage in an ideal location-we will definitely return.. Only a couple of points - we had a power cut and could not find any candles, only a torch with the batteries almost run down. A washer drier would be a good addition as there is nowhere to hang clothes outside and in wet weather we ended up with wet clothes on all the radiators. One other item would be a baking sheet! Apart from that it was perfect!

Cottage was lovely had everything we needed (Well maybe a tumble dryer? ) . We stayed on a very wet week in August but had packed for possible rain being in the lake district so thank God for the cosy woodburner!. It was a great start point for all our walks in week from scarfell to helvellyn (weather beat us on that one to complete ) but some great local walks along lake to Ambleside and Alcock tarn plus more! the location was just great reason we choose it and would book it again :) .

Cottage wasn't cleaned properly.. Quite a few cobwebs ! Have been on many many cottage holidays and this was the least welcoming. No tea , milk , welcome pack. This was not the end of the world but it would have been nice to be able to make a cup of tea and feel welcome after a long journey. As I said every other cottage we've stayed in at least had a pint of milk and some tea bags.

The location is brilliant - it was lovely to be away from the road and have parking.. The rooms were large and light. The beds were comfortable and the shower was excellent. Well equipped kitchen that had most items we needed. Some feedback for you: The floors hadn't been cleaned that well. There was no washing up liquid provided. Only 3 cereal-sized bowls. A cow appeared in the field that you overlook mid-week and it's amazing how noisy they are - from 6am and through to nearly midnight :(

Lovely cottage in a great location.. Equipment all good. Dishwasher and tumble dryer would be useful. A few cobwebs around the place so would only give 9/10 for cleanliness but this didn't detract from the time we spent at Tanner Croft. Car parking a problem if there are 2 cars.......municipal car parks expensive. Have graded it 'Met expectations' only because we have used the cottage before......on a first visit it would have exceeded expectations.

We have just enjoyed another fine holiday in the Lake District, in the best accomodation we have had in our numerous stays in this wonderful area. Tanner Cottage has been sympathetically restored by the owner (Sheila), and provided us with a better location than we could possibly have hoped for. Set back from the centre of Grasmere, behind a small field,(full of spring lambs), it was very quiet, but as you can imagine, very handy for access to all area's and superb walks right from the front door. Our car moved only once all week! The fixtures and fittings are well thought out, we wanted for nothing. Many items were provided by it's thoughtful owner to make our stay as comfortable as possible...so we thank Sheila for providing top class accomodation at a very reasonable price. It is also worth noting that we booked this cottage through 'Lakes Holiday Cottages' who are always wonderfully effecient and very helpful, which is more than can be said of other larger holiday cottage firms in the Lake District.

This was our second stay this year at Tanner Croft. This is a very well appointed and comfortable cottage with its own parking (a real bonus in Grasmere). Coming back to a proper fire after a day walking cannot be beaten! The location is ideal. The village centre is a 1-2 min walk away, but with a field between this and the cottage, we never noticed the weekend groups. Grasmere itself is a good base for exploring the lakes with easy access to the north and south of the region. There are also plenty of good walks to be had from the doorstep, meaning the car has a holiday as well. This cottage would be our first choice for when we come back to the Lakes.

Anexcellent cottage that was very well equipped. The drying room was extrememly useful due to the weather during the week we had the cottage. Very cosy ,warm and comfortable. After a good days walking you could easily cook a meal or alternatively take a very short walk to a number of eating houses. Avoid the Red Lion for food !

A cosy warm cottage with all you can wish for to make your stay in the Lake District perfect. Very central within a short walk of the shops, restaurants and the bus stop if you wish to leave the car behind. Lovely walks straight from the back door. A warm welcome received from the owner.

This cottage is full of genuine character and very well situated close to the centre of Grasmere village while away from the tourist hordes. Parking not as hard as it looks once you get used to it. Cottage generally very comfortable, but not much outside space and beds could be better. Service excellent from the seller, refunded us straight away when we paid twice by mistake! Grasmere can't be beaten for things to do, great views and loads of top quality walks straight from the cottage door, but - it is expensive, rammed with sightseeing tourists and really good 'real' pubs are a drive or long-ish walk away except for Tweedie's, but you need to be flush to eat there. Easy proximity to ambleside and Keswick and excellent public transport.

Loved the Cottage. Comfortable Beds. Loved the log fire. Kitchen had all you needed. Perfect location. Village has very nice bars and restaurants a short walk away. Regular public transport to all parts of the Lakes a short walk from the dottage.

The cottage is situated on the edge of the wonderfully picturesque village of Grasmere which has a decent selection of walks from the doorstep and an good choice of shops and restaurants. Grasmere lake is only half a mile walk from the cottage and has footpaths that run along large parts of the edge. Easily one of the prettiest and best laid out lakeland villages we've stayed in. The village has everything you'll need other than a hole-in-the-wall. There is an aTM inside the Post Office but that is often shut, so beware! The cottage has two decent sized double bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen and a satisfactory sized living space. The bathroom is very large and features an above average sized bath which comfortably caters for 2 people. The only criticisms I would have with the cottage are 1) The rather noisy boiler which is situated in a small room between the kitchen and the living room and 2) The fact that there is a slight feeling of being overlooked. The house next door is owned by the same family that own the cottage and they have sole access to the garden to which the rental cottage is positioned next to. Although the couple that live there are very friendly we felt a little unable to really relax at the start of our holiday as they were often walking across the front of the house to reach their front door. There is a small private area infront of the cottage but even that is considered 'fair game' by the family next door. At one point I was sitting on the sofa and found myself being stared at by the granddaughter of the owner who was positioned on the bench of the rental cottage. To my knowledge the child was not reprimanded. These are only minor gripes as all in all it is a delightful cottage which I would definitely go back to. 8/10.

Great cottage which had everything you needed. The location was excellent as close to pubs / restaurants and could go walking straight from the cottage. Would definitely return!

This cottage is near the centre of Grasmere whilst being quietly located up a lane leading out of the village towards the hills. For us this was ideal being 5 minutes from the village ammenities whilst feeling like we were well and truely away from it all. The cottage is a fairly small/cosy building looking out onto fields and Grasmere village in the distance. Its well furnished and presented with most things you could want. The only appliance it was short of was a dishwasher - not an issue for us in anyway I have to say. The owner was friendly and helpful and we really couldn't fault the service we received. We had a lovely few days staying here and I wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again or recommend it to a friend.

Been going to Grasmere for years but only in B&Bs; until now. Tanner croft was a great find lovely place just right for all those great things about our beloved lakes. Near to a huge amount of walking in the village Keswick an ambleside a stones throw a way. To get back after a great day out to a homely place and put the fire on was a cosy dream (brilliant) all you needed in the place to make you feel home from home, without a doubt will be making more visits.

Having self-catered for the last 15 years, Tanner Croft in Grasmere rates as one of the best! Lovely and clean and a great mix of old and new with lots of character and love - everything we needed plus lots of literature/books etc. The location couldn't be better, central but on a quiet no-through road with parking. In front of the cottage was a field with sheep allowing views across to the hills with an area for sitting out (and drinks!) before walking just 200 yards or so to the village. The booking service (and directions etc) from Cottage Holiday Group was great, as was Sheila who was just a phone call away if needed in the village. There was no negative for me and my hubby, yes the shower lacked a bit of power which i've seen mentioned elsewhere but who really cares! This was our first actual stay in Grasmere with lots of new walks and eateries and we'll be back!

We had a fantastic holiday, a visit from Sheila the owner exceeded our expectations, what a lovely lady. The cottage has everything you could possibly need including great storage, often a bug bear of mine, to hide all our 'stuff'. Sheila was a great source of local intelligence as she lives in the village, recommending places to eat and visit. Highly recommended.

This was a lovely cottage to stay in. Very very clean, all home comforts, everything that you need in self catering. 2 double bedrooms, but 2nd one a little smaller, but still decent size. Small garden to the front, pity the green at the side isnt with this cottage, but didnt spoil our stay. Very quiet, but central for the village of grasmere and their many walks.

Service was friendly and good. The home was comfortable and pretty well equipped. Would have preferred a larger TV screen and ideally wi-fi. Main bed was comfortable, second bed average. Needed more drawers in the second bedroom. Location excellent for walking and for using facilities in the village.
