• "Stunning location, cosy and warm property which really completes this experience."

  If we could rate it higher then we would. We are 3 adults and a child and it was decent size for us, just a little traffic for the toilet every now and then. Has everything you need; fridge, freezer, large pantry room, blankets for sitting in front of the fire, enough toilet rolls, fantastic amount of clean towels. Just bring your own tea & coffee, shampoos, soaps, slippers as your feet will get cold. We got there in the evening and it’s very hard to see where the property is and signal is weak in the area so sat nav took us to the wrong place. Would recommend getting there before sunset. Small thing is we tried to open two windows (bathroom and one of the bedrooms) and weren’t able to. Nothing major but could be a hassle for summer. Thank you, we’ll definitely come back again to Edna’s cottage ❤️

• "This is the third time we have stayed at Edna's and, for us, it ticks all the boxes."

  Great location. Practical and comfortable accommodation. Perhaps the only point I would raise is a difficulty in regulating the temperature of the shower but that would never put us off staying here again. Indeed, we hope to be back in 2026 for a 4th time. Big thanks to the owners for allowing to use this charming cottage. Oh....and we had sun all week in March!!

  The location was great for walks from the door. We did not need to use our car all week. The parking is a bit tight, luckily we only have a smallish car, so it wasn’t a problem.

• "The cottage is a real home from home with comfortable sofas and beds to enjoy after a day enjoying the beautiful Lakes and the garden is a lovely place to relax with a hot drink."

  It is in the perfect location for walks without having to drive and if you do want to take a car, Ambleside, Grasmere and the Langdale Valley are all withing half an hours drive. I visited in September and with the ground floor flooring being slate, you need a good pair of slippers in the cooler months as the floors are cold and there's no heating in the bathroom so expect to be chilly after your bath or shower. I'm a regular visitor and it's the first time I've stayed in a cottage which does not provide a welcome basket with teabags etc, you'll need to take everything with you. That being said the benefits outweigh the small niggles and I'll definitely be back in future.

• "Great to find a cottage where dogs are not permitted as we were confident that the sofa's would not have been used by them."

  The house was very clean. The bedding was good quality, but the double bed seemed small to us. The location of this cottage is fantastic; lots of walk from the door. I parked my car at the back door and did not use it for the whole week. The local bus service is great we used it to get back from our walks to Ambleside and Elterwater where we had a superb afternoon meal and pint of beer at the Brittania inn. I highly recommend .

• "The bathroom requires urgent attention due to a water leak that has resulted in flooding and damage."

  I initially intended to take a bath, but upon using the tub, I was taken aback by its poor state of cleanliness. While I hadn’t noticed it visually, the experience of lying in it was quite unpleasant, and there was a noticeable odor indicating it was not properly cleaned. This led me to switch to a shower, which unfortunately exacerbated the existing leak issue.

• "A beautiful and cosy holiday cottage in a perfect location for exploring the lakes."

  Being able to drink coffee in the wonderful garden and listen to the river added to the pleasure of the stay. The cottage had everything you needed for a comfortable holiday and we can see why others loved it so much. Although we didn’t need to use the range (summer) I could see just how cosy it would make the cottage in the colder months. Would definitely recommend.

• "Stayed here before and was very happy."

  I raised a couple of things that needed addressing, and on this visit they were sorted so well done for listening. However this time i had issues with the washing machine. I did report it and someone came to sort it. When I went to use it, the same thing happened again it was reported again, but this time no one came. Due to the bad weather it would have been a god send, as we had someone with special needs with us. Eventually we had to leave a day early because we ran out of clean or dry clothes.

• "Location, location, location!"

  We know the Lakes and Langdales very well. This was our 2nd stay at Edna's and this charming cottage ticks all the boxes for us. Rain or shine, enjoy the walks, beer and hearty pub food (all 3 preferably). Thank you to the owners for sharing your cottage. We hope to be back for a third time in the future.

• "The cottage overall was comfortable, clean and well situated."

  We enjoyed our stay. Some issues also raised by previous guests have not been addressed. The radiator in the bathroom is switched off. The bath with the shower overhead is slippy and there is no bath mat. The lane leading to the cottage is flooded causing problems in gaining entrance to the cottage at the back. The front door cannot be opened or locked from outside. However the kitchen is well stocked with cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils with all appliances easy to use. The beds are very comfortable. Please address the issues and this would be a perfect stay

  It’s very well located, and the property is in great condition and has a well equipped kitchen. The photos don’t do it justice, the kitchen and bathroom having recently been refurbished. Sykes were very helpful answering queries in advance too. Would definitely stay again and book through Sykes.

• "What a wonderful cottage."

  Will definitely book again. Just a couple of suggestions, a bath rail and bath mat would have help us as we had someone with balance issues. I also agree with other people with the front door not locking from the outside. Overall though we were very happy with it.

• "I asked on more than one occasion as to whether the front door could be locked from the outside ?"

  I sent an E-Mail on the 30th Sept, I did not receive an answer. The lane was not a problem as it was so hot it dried up the puddle. It would have been very difficult for my partner who has mobility problems to have to wade through a large muddy puddle. The range had not been cleaned as thick dust was on the top and a cobweb was on the door to the fire. I can remember that ranges used to be a feature in the room and all the brass would be shining .

• "This is a beautiful and well appointed cottage in a stunning location , with great facilities ."

  However, there is one glaringly obvious problem which could be easily rectified : not being able to lock and unlock the front door from outside. This seems like a minor problem, but in fact causes much unnecessary inconvenience, as going in and out of the back lane , means walking through a very large and muddy puddle , only negotiable with wellies, and then having to change footwear, and leave wellies at the front door!! Incidentally, we only knew that we needed to take wellies because of someone’s review on the website, otherwise we would of had to purchase some .

• "We enjoyed our stay at Edna's cottage."

  The location was great and the cottage and garden were nice. Just a couple of things - it would have been nice to be able to enter the cottage via the front door but unfortunately it doesn't lock or unlock from the outside. This is especially the case as the large puddle at the bottom of the lane at times made it completely unpassable on foot and even when it was it was passable it was very muddy. We note that other visitors have commented on the same two things.

• "The range in the lounge was a failure."

  We have a wood burner at home so know what to do .we took our logs, firelights etc. It swallowed up all we took on day one and did not warm the room. We had to use rugs to keep ourselves warm, Shame! The front door opened OK from inside, but we couldn’t get the key into the lock from outside. Leaving by the back was a problem without wellies, huge puddle on drive way all week.

  Very comfortable and warm with all the facilities you need. Ideal location for exploring the Langdales with many walks both from the door and a short drive away. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

• "Arrived Friday to no water at all, pipes frozen, caretaker very helpful, gave us 12 bottles of water and used buckets of water from the river for the toilet, water came back on Sunday lunchtime."

  Although very annoying it was manageable. Kindly offered half our money back, much appreciated. Lovely cottage been coming a few years now.

• "Very clean and comfortable cottage, well equipped kitchen."

  Access to parking area is a bit challenging when it rains, as it does often in the Lakes, as entry to the lane floods and the deep puddle does not drain away for several days. Parking is for small/medium cars only. Leaving on final day by 09:00 is a bit extreme, I'm sure 09:30 / 10:00 would be much better. Great cottage, great holiday, walking from door of cottage is a real benefit. .

• "A lovely cottage, well equipped and comfortable, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

  The only tweaks that would make the cottage even better would be a separate toilet somwhere, possibly in the pantry off the kitchen, or alternatively the walk in closet in the front bedroom could become an en-suite, and (trivially) a few more small glasses as there was only one. I also contributed a tea strainer, which I do at most cottages I stay in.

• "A charming traditional cottage with a beautiful garden."

  It was lovely to watch all the birds coming to the bird table each day. The location is perfect, just quiet enough but it is easy to access the busier places if you wish to. We will definitely return.

• "Delightful little cottage in a truly stunning location."

  Booked a last minute break, cottage was immaculate upon arrival and has been updated from the pictures. Will definitely stay here again, perfect base for walking and mountain biking, so many options straight from the cottage. The gardens and it's location are stunning, as all the passers-by prove stopping to take pictures. River running right past the front, pub and Chesters next door, and one of my favourite lakes pubs The Britannia a lovely stroll along the river. Such a relaxing place to stay it was a much needed and much enjoyed break.

• "This was our second visit to Edna's cottage and it was just as peaceful as the first time."

  The cottage has a very 'calm' feel to it. The bathroom has had a tidy-up which is good but it still needs some heat, a shelf and a towel rail, it is not the warmest of places. The other slight problem is the lack of parking space - what is available is very limited and one needs to be able to reverse well!! We would visit again.

  No heating in bathroom, so gets very cold, could do with a towel rail. Clean and well equipped. Beds a-little bumpy and sofas not that comfortable. But all in all a lovely place to stay.

• "Edna's Cottage is in a good location and considering the amount of people that walk by, use the Skelwith Hotel and Chester's it is very quiet."

  We did stay in November so that might have played a part, less people around. The cottage sleeps 4 but the dining area would struggle to seat that many. The bathroom is in poor condition, dated, black mould around the bath, a large damp patch above the shower that appears when it rains, which it did, and when the very weak shower is running, no heat, towel rain, shelf, lots of condensation on the windows. It spoils the opinion for the rest of the place. We had to buy light bulbs, clean out the gunge in the washing machine seal, I have photo is needed. Not the best impression really. A great shame because with some tlc this place would be lovely. Parking is also a nightmare, very little space.

• "This is a nice, clean cottage in a lovely spot and fine for a short stay."

  The facilities are a little basic considering the price for 2 nights. The bathroom is in need of an update and the hot water tap on the sink did not work at all. Parking outside the cottage entrance is very tight and tricky to reverse out of although there are more accessible spots to the front of the cottage.

  the double bed was awful -had to put the duvets from the single beds on- it is so important-take advice from premier inns- their beds are FAB Advise people to take slippers!!! The stone floors are lovely but you need slippers

• "We arrived on a Friday evening, cottage was in a good position."

  However, on the first night, I found that the double bed made such a loud noise every time I moved that I could not sleep, and nor could my daughter in the other room. The curtains are also so thin that I was also kept awake by the car headlights and then the early morning light. The bed was not comfortable. The next night I tried sleeping in the other room in a single bed. This bed was not comfortable either, with springs digging into me all night and again the curtains are too thin and let all the light in. On the following night, I tried the single bed again with the quilt underneath me, however, the occupants in the cottage next door decided to have a party until 3am, so, again, no sleep. We finally gave up and moved to a hotel for the rest of our holiday so that we could sleep. Sykes were very helpful when I called and raised a concern, but the owners of the cottage would not refund me for the 3 nights that we did not stay. Along with the mould in the bathroom and being quite unclean, I would not recommend this property.

• "The cottage was in a brilliant central location for everywhere you could want to visit, the rooms were comfortable and spacious and had what we needed, The only things to mention is that as we stayed in the summer months, it was light really early and the curtains in the main bedroom are very thin, the room would have benefitted from a black out blind, and an option of a summer duvet."

  the bird table in the front garden was a lovely touch as we saw lots of different birds feeding,and even topped up the tub of seed and peanuts . overall a brilliant stay.

• "The cottage was adequate for a group of 4 guys who had no intention of doing any cooking, but I would never book it for a family holiday where the cooking and dining- in was a requirement."

  The kitchen was not particularly well equipped and the dining table area was very cramped - you would struggle to get 4 adults around that dining table!

• "We were disappointed to find there was no DVD player in the property, even though the listing clearly states that there is."

  This may seem like a minor issue, but the weather was exceptionally bad and we were looking forward to watching some DVD's in the evenings We were very happy with the cottage itself, which was extremely cosy and comfortable. The range fireplace in the lounge was absolutely wonderful
