  • "Lovely cottage that was a surprise pick!"

We had to transfer from the cottage we originally booked but were not disappointed by our last minute choice. The only thing missing for us in this almost perfect cottage is an open fire or log burner but that’s a personal choice that doesn’t suite everyone. Everything is thought about, it’s a lovely cosy place and there’s simple and informative instruction for everything provided.

Hi Pam, we are so pleased our cottage worked so well for you. it must have been a bit stressful transferring cottages at short notice. We are pleased you found everything to your liking, we try hard to anticipate what guests will need. We hope to welcome you all back again. Westmorland Cottage will have a brand new kitchen very soon! kind regards, Alice and Nick. Property Owner

The property

An impressive Grade II limestone cottage built in 1850, formerly part of the old fishing village, Westmorland Cottage is a beautiful holiday base for an escape with family or friends to the coast of Cumbria.

A spacious cottage situated on the corner of Cart Lane and Carter Road, with gardens to the front and enclosed gardens to the rear, this property offers all you could want for a relaxing retreat.

Park up on the off-road, graveled parking area, with enough space for three cars, and soak up the splendid scenery, which surrounds you; situated in an elevated position but close to the estuary with breath-taking views of the Howgills and Morecambe Bay in the Edwardian town of Grange-over-Sands on the edge of the beautiful Lake District.

Venture inside to be met by the spacious hallway where you can take off your boots before discovering the beauty of the sitting room; light up the gas coal-effect fire and settle down in the contemporary seating arrangement whilst watching your favourite films on the Smart TV.

Move through into the kitchen and take a seat at the breakfast table with a refreshing beverage in hand, your delicious dinner simmering on the traditional gas range cooker amidst the selection of other wonderful appliances, while you will find a fridge/freezer and convenient washing machine in the utility room.

Make the most of the space within the formal dining room where you can enjoy your meal times or with a board game brought from home, or carry your conversation out into the impressive garden, the roof terrace making the perfect spot for soaking in the sun whilst enjoying the views of the Bay and the hills.

Back inside, on the ground floor you will find a convenient wet room with a large walk-in shower, wonderfully placed for after a day spent exploring the Lake District National Park, while up on the first floor rests the family bathroom, where you can choose from both a bath and an overhead shower to begin each day.

Seek out the three enticing bedrooms all offering their own wonderful views, made up of two king-size rooms and a twin, with each room boasting a homely interior and ample storage space for your personal belongings too.

Step outside and begin your exploration of the local area at the end of Cart Lane, where just a few steps away is the start of the impressive Victorian Promenade leading you into heart of Grange-over-Sands where you will be pleased to find a charming atmosphere hosting a range of wonderful shops and eateries including pubs and restaurants, with a traditional fish and chip shop giving you a true taste of the coast.

The bustling Edwardian resort town also boasts its very own railway station giving you easy access to the surrounding wonders of the area, with fantastic transport links to Furness Peninsula, Kendal, and Lancaster and further afield to Manchester and the West Coast mainline.

The property benefits from being just a short drive to the M6 too, letting you explore the wider area at your own leisurely pace.

Take a stroll from the cottage to the Kents Bank railway station passing the 15th century Guides Farm, where the Royal appointed Queen’s Guide across the Sands lives, making a wonderful walk across the sands for young and old alike.

Venture into the depths of the Lake District National Park to indulge in a scenic experience like no other, with opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding, watersports and so much more, or simply soak up the splendour of the sea views with a relaxing day at your perfect holiday home, Westmorland Cottage.

GRANGE-OVER-SANDS

Cartmel 2 miles; Lake Windermere 8 miles; Kendal 10 miles.

The charming Edwardian resort of Grange-over-Sands is set between the Lake District fells and Morecambe Bay and offers one of the mildest climates in the north of England. Formerly a small fishing village, the introduction of the Furness Railway transformed Grange-over-Sands into a fashionable Edwardian resort. Today, the town has much to offer the visitor including a traffic-free promenade, delightful ornamental gardens, golf courses, brass band concerts and excellent bird watching. Just a short drive away are Lake Windermere (8 miles), the villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Hawkshead, which still retain the charm and character that has endeared them to so many, and the home of sticky toffee pudding, Cartmel, with its famous racecourse and the L’Enclume restaurant, which has been voted the 4th best restaurant in the UK. Other attractions in the area include Levens Hall, with its Elizabethan Hall and world famous topiary gardens, Holker Hall, Furness Abbey, Sizergh Castle, a National Trust medieval house and gardens, and Conishead Priory, a Gothic revival country house. There is also the 25 mile Cistercian Way which starts at Grange over Sands. Set amidst the southern lakes, the attractive town of Grange-over-Sands makes a superb base from which to enjoy the whole of this magical area.
