The village is known for its connections to William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter, and visitors may like to visit the Beatrix Potter Gallery and the historic Hawkshead Grammar School. A three mile drive along country lanes, will bring visitors to the shores of Lake Windermere, and the ferry which takes both cars and foot passengers across to the town of Bowness.
