This spectacular area of natural beauty is unsurprisingly popular among keen walkers, with wonderful mountain, valley, and lakeside routes on the doorstep.

From the hamlet of Kentmere, a track leads to a splendid collection of mountain tops including Thornthwaite Crag, Froswick, High Street, Mardale Ill Bell, and Harter Fell. 3 miles from the cottage is the village of Staveley, which boasts typical Lakeland stone buildings, the Rivers Kent and Gowan, a beautiful church, and a selection of shops and inns.
