The best spot to admire the idyllic surroundings is the sunny garden or raised deck with a chilled drink in hand. The interiors are also lovely, although the wi-fi is a bit slow. Not one but three log burners keep things cosy come winter, and the orangery is the perfect setting for family meals. When it comes to location, Appleby is just down the road, Penrith is a fifteen-minute drive and Ullswater is reachable in about thirty minutes. Walking trails and cycle routes are practically on your doorstep, too.
