Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth, offers a great location to explore the western fells and lakes of the Lake District.

Grasmoor, Fleetwith Pike, Haystacks, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Loweswater and Whinlatter Forest are all within 12 miles. The path at Bassenthwaite Lake runs the length of the west shore, and there is an open air theatre at Mirehouse which is well worth a visit.
