Keswick (11 miles away) hosts the annual Mountain Festival and has a great selection of independent shops, eateries, galleries, and parks situated on the shores of Derwentwater where you can board a boat or hire your own. For adrenaline seekers, make the 7 mile trip to Whinlatter Forest which has some great mountain bike trails and is home to a Go Ape! centre.
