Holiday home Fell Cottage is a character semi-detached cottage with wonderful views, in an isolated setting in Sandale near Wigton. The cottage has a double and a twin, a bathroom and ground floor cloakroom. The farmhouse-style kitchen diner leads to a patio, while the first floor sitting room has a woodburner and welcoming feel. Outside is off road parking for two cars, while guests have shared use of the owners' two acre garden. Fell Cottage is well placed for walking, cycling, and the market towns and quaint villages of the Lake District National Park, not to mention the spectacular scenery all around.
Accomodation Details Two bedrooms: 1 x double, 1 x twin. Bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Ground floor basin and WC. Kitchen with dining area. Utility. First floor sitting room with woodburning stove.
Area With a charter granted in 1262, the traditional Cumbrian market town of Wigton still holds a market each Tuesday in the covered market hall. This lovely town is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, as well as for other activities such as theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. The Lord Melvyn Bragg novel, 'A Time to Dance', featured the town of Thurston, which was based on Wigton and the local area. The town is just 18 miles from Penrith and so makes an excellent base from which to explore the cathedral city of Carlisle, the North Lakes and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. The epic Roman construction, Hadrian's Wall, is within 25 miles, whilst the Scottish borders and their famous town of Gretna Green are within easy driving distance.
Region Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Amenities Oil central heating with woodburning stove. Electric Rangemaster double oven and hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, WiFi. Fuel, power and wood for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Two cots and one highchair on request. Off road parking for 2 cars. Lockable bike storage. The cottage was superb, it had absolutely everything we could possibly need for our few days away.. The owner, although we never met was very helpful and kept in touch via email to ensure we were having a lovely time and was available should we need any assistance. The cottage was totally perfect for us, spotlessly clean and not a single thing was too much trouble. The outdoor bbq was amazing! I travelled with 2 children aged 10 and 13 and they were so well catered for with a variety of games and things to keep them entertained. I would most definately recommend this cottage and hope to return at some point in the near future.

This was an absolutely brilliant cottage with everything! ! you could need provided including a welcome pack. The location was ideal, quiet and out of the way ,but not to far away that it would take you all day to get there for instance Keswick was only 30 minutes away and Bowness on Windermere just over a hour. All in all we had an enjoyable stay at Fell Cottage and hosts Jon & Jan were on hand but not in your face in fact perfect hosts.

This was a superb cottage with every creature comfort accounted for, topped off set within spectacular scenery on the edge of the national park.. Well kitted out for couples or families with children, no need to bring your kitchen sinks as this lovely cottage has everything you would need for ALL the family. The owners who lived next door were great, but at the same time never in your face. Cannot recommend this cottage enough. Being set on the quieter edge of the lakes it still affords easy access to all of the busier tourist spots and many quieter ones too. The nearby lakes distillery is well worth the visit.

Fell Cottage was really brilliant, it has everything you need and is spacious but also cosy. Janet & John couldn't be nicer and it has to be the most dog-friendly place we've ever stayed in. Fresh eggs from the chickens, apples from the trees and amazingly very little rain. The location is lovely and the views stunning. Would highly recommend using it any time of the year

The cottage is set in beautiful two acre grounds adjoined to the owners cottage.. They have provided everything you could wish for to have a truly great holiday. The designer kitchen has every facility you could ever need and opens out onto a sheltered patio. Lounge and bedrooms are upstairs so you can take in the views of the garden and the hills. All the furnishings are very good quality comfortable and well thought out.
You are given the use of all the areas in the gardens....a spectacular Scandinavian bbq hut at the top of the field with seating for about eight...a must if you are avid bbq fans!
Janet and Jon are brilliant friendly hosts and will look after you well.....produce from the allotment, eggs from the seven chickens, and Jon will offer you any other items he
Although we didn't have children with us we could see they are well catered for with lots of toys books etc and outside playthings too.
There are friendly dogs and cats to meet who will come to see you every morning.
Keswick is about half an hour away and Wigton four miles away for good butchers and some general grocers.
This was the best Sykes cottage we have stayed in!

The cottage is a brilliant little gem in the Lake District that is surrounded by glorious scenery.. Our hosts were amazing and the cottage so well appointed we had need of nothing additional. Our kids loved the daily feed of the most sociable chickens, and our morning visit from the hosts kitten. Felt like home!

This is a truly fabulous cottage, with host and hostess to match.. Try though I might, we just couldn't fault it, and set in a part of Lakeland that is perhaps not the most visited, and therefore not quite as crowded as some of the better known spots, and all the better for it. Needless to say it is very much in demand, and we only hope we can find a slot soon.

A beautiful, spacious and well equipped cottage with stunning views. In a quiet part of Cumbria, but if you want to visit the tourist hotspots they are only a short drive away. We visited in February and the cottage was well heated with central heating and a wood burning stove. The owners made us feel very welcome.

This well presented cottage was a sheer delight for our holiday. It more than met our expectations, which is a tribute to our hosts. Have returned from a wonderful week in the North Lakes staying at Fell Cottage. I travelled with my partner, two friends (all in our late 20s) and our dog and what a perfect cottage it was to choose!
To begin, the owners were very hospitable - greeting us (with their 3 dogs) and showing us around the cottage. They gave us fresh eggs from their hens each day and were only next door if we needed any advice on where to go.
Each room had character and the main living room upstairs with open fire was perfect after long days walking in the Lakes. Kitchen was fully stocked with all you could need as was every room in the house. We were very fortunate to have 6 full days of wall to wall sunshine (the owner joking we had brought it with us from the South) and this made for an excellent BBQ in the garden overlooking the north Lakes in the evening. The garden is excellent and anyone staying in Spring/Summer or Autumn will really enjoy it.
For us, the area was perfect and we got the best of both worlds. That being becuase it is remote enough and out of the touristy areas to have peace and quiet and local pub food. However, also close enough for 20 mins (Skiddaw) or 1hr 15 (Scarfell) for us to get easy access to walks.
I thoroughly recommend this to everyone and can't wait for ou next visit.

November 2014
The position of the cottage is beautiful, surrounded by
countryside, with extended vistas all around. The owners who
live next door were extremely welcoming, inviting us to their
bonfire/firework party on the day we arrived (and fed us too!).
The cottage itself is warm, welcoming, beautifully decorated
and extremely well equipped. It really made a huge difference
to the whole break, knowing that even after a blustery and rainy day out, we could return to such a lovely warm and comfortable cottage.

Fantastic cottage in ideal location. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners who lived adjacent to the Cottage.
We took our two Labrador Retrievers as this was a dog friendly cottage and were impressed by the upkeep and standards of the cottage recognising we were probably not the first to take our dogs there.
We would not hesitate to return again or recommend to our friends and family.

Fell Cottage is a 5 star cottage, it is everything and more, but Jan,Jon & Charlotte the hosts make it a wonderful stay into a 7 star Cottage. We found this cottage three years ago and have since stayed 8 times, and now looking forward to a re-visit in December. We are so pleased to have found Fell Cottage, for us the BEST Cottage stay in the Lakes, and we have stayed at many over the years.

We stayed at Fell Cottage in Dec 2013. From the warm and friendly welcome when we arrived (from the owners who live next door) to the excellent cottage facilities, fantastic views and wonderful Christmas decorations, we absolutely loved this cottage, and wanted to take it home with us!
Situated on the Northern Edge of the edge of the Lake District, so not the most central position, but the cottage is beautifully appointed, to the tiniest detail, and has wonderful views which I'm sure would be amazing from the BBQ area on a summer's evening.
We were only a couple with 2 dogs (also made very welcome) but the cottage was very spacious and would happily accomodate a family, with dogs. We would highly recommend to anyone, and would like to thank the owners for their hospitality and a wonderful stay!

Out of the many cottages that advertise that they are 'dog friendly', then this was one of the few that truly was dog friendly. Delightful cottage and they allowed us to leave our two dogs on occasions when we wanted to go out without them. The cottage had everything and the owners next door were so helpful. Will definitely (Lord Willing) book the cottage again. The kind of place to keep going back to. Loads of games too. Lovely holiday.
