Area
Ambleside, on the northern tip of Lake Windermere, is a great base for exploring the central Lakes, with the rural delights of Grasmere and the Langdale Valley nearby. There are boat trips and watersport opportunities available on Lake Windermere, plus plenty of shops, restaurants, and pubs to suit all tastes. The parkland at Waterhead offers lovely views down the lake and a small beach, while a walk along Stock Ghyll through woodland leads to the enchanting Stock Ghyll Force waterfall. Along with the Lake and great walking, Ambleside is known for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the tiny 17th century “Bridge House”, now the National Trust Information Centre.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
