Holiday Rental Description

Holiday home
Walker's Retreat is a stylish ground floor apartment a short walk from the centre of Ambleside near Lake Windermere in the Lake District. The property can sleep three people in two bedrooms, including a king-size double, a single room and a bathroom boasting a kidney-shaped bath. The rest of the cottage offers a fitted kitchen and a sitting room with a gas fire and sliding doors leading to a patio with wonderful views towards the town of Loughrigg and Loughrigg Fell, while outside, steps lead up to the parking area where you will find off road parking for one car. Situated just outside the delightful village of Ambleside, Walker's Retreat is the perfect base for a holiday exploring the Lake District. Please note: the neighbouring house will be having a tunnel built under the drive from 4 November 2024 until mid to late February 2025. Work will be 6 days a week from 8am but builders will be respectful and keep any associated noise to a minimum; they will also be on hand to help with luggage if needed. Most of November will be quiet as the concrete will need a month to set once it has been poured. The nearest car park whilst the work takes place is Lake Road Car Park a short walk away and the owners will be covering the cost of any parking receipts provided. Please call the office for any further information

Walker's Retreat is a sperb apartment - fitted out to the highest standard, clean and comfortable. When you find the secret stairway down through the garden into the main street, you realise how brilliantly situated it is for shops, restaurants and buses - all literally minutes away. We have stayed in Ambleside many times but this was our first visit to Walker's Retreat and we were really impressed. A word of warning though, the apartment is part of a small complex which sadly has little in the way of sound-proofing. The walls and ceilings are paper-thin and we could hear everything from the surrounding apartments. It wasn't that our neighbours were particularly rowdy but, because of the thin walls, etc. we could hear every door closing, voices in conversation and T.V. sounds. This was partly remedied by the purchase of earplugs, but couldn't prevent a few sleepless nights during our stay. The noise was a shame because otherwise this apartment would be absolutely perfect.

Sykes holiday excellent no problems with booking, etc.. Walkers retreat perfect location for walking and central to Ambleside. However the apartment was not clean it smelled damp, human hair in bathroom and bedroom, dirt and dust in bedroom under beds; as old receipt from 2018 found by bed, balcony furniture required cleaning Bed most uncomfortable. not one to complain usually but seriously would not return to this apartment. On a positive note walking was amazing with spectacular views, highly recommend Ambleside as a location for walkers.

Really enjoyed our stay in Walkers Retreat, convenient location, just 2 minutes walk to amenities, really good property, slight issue with parking ( very tight ) but would revisit this property, and would recommend, really good experience with Sykes cottages, from booking and being kept up to date with any relevant information, I.. E. payment schedule, key collection and travel information, would highly recommend Sykes, and will look to use Sykes in the future

Our 2nd time at Walkers Retreat - both over Christmas.. A home-from home feel. We are seasoned Lake District and self-catering folk so we know when we find terrific value. Walkers Retreat offers exactly that for a couple. Warm and toasty on arrival, ultra-clean. Very comfortable for both of us and lots of clear, obvious instructions for all the various appliances etc - a lot of other places do not do this!

Brilliant location, ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside.. Very comfortable, warm accommodation which was very well equipped with everything you would require. Balcony provided superb views over Todd Crag. Easy access to local and high level walks which meant that on most occasions our car could be left in it's allocated parking place. Overall we have no hesitation in recommending this property and would definitely return.

This is a lovely little apartment with great views and convenient for the whole of Ambleside, although it would be better to warn visitors that there is almost no storage space for either clothes or food (other than on top of beds or in the fridge, respectively).. The car parking arrangements also take a bit of getting used to - a lot of reversing in is called for.

This property has everything you need as a perfect base to explore the area. Spotlessly clean, warm and cosy to relax in after a day of walking, with amazing views from the sun-trap balcony. Its great to have private, convenient parking for the flat. This is our fourth visit and we're about to book in one for 2019! Can't recommend enough.

A591 is really close and easy but the railing doesn't go all the way down, but it should.. Lovely flat, quiet, close to town. Lovely.

Very comfortable and well equipped and convenient to the town.. It was not busy when we went but I would expect the parking to be very difficult when full. I had to reverse along the drive to the allocated space in Flat 1. The hot water was ok especially in the bathroom not like some feedback which complained it was luke warm! Other than the parking a good experience.

This is the perfect small cottage for a stay in Ambleside.. Clean and comfortable with fantastic views from the lounge and kitchen. You can walk down the steps straight into Ambleside to wander. The only slight negative is that the heating, especially in the lounge, can be very noisy when reaching temperature.Would definitely recommend though.

Had a very enjoyable week in Walker’s Retreat.. Apartment ideal for two of us, in a great location and is warm and comfortable. As walkers, the utility room was fab as was the extra heated drying rail. The view is brilliant and we made the most of it, sitting out on the patio after a walk - we had decent March weather most of the week. Parking, as others have said, is a little tight but fine for my Golf. Owners have made real efforts to make things easy for visitors with little info notes dotted around.

Responses to my Qs at booking stage were prompt, helpful and polite, not pushy.. Info on booking to get there, key pickup, contacts etc were simple and uncomplicated. The flat was prefect, well described in words and pics. It had everything needed, all good quality and very comfortable. Well located on edge of town, 2 mins walk into town, but very quiet, and also on edge of hiking with Wansfell pike Troutbeck and Windermere walk on doorstep. Perfect 'walkers retreat' to explore the whole Lakes district.

We love it here. Perfect location, attentive hosts, beautiful views, very well kept, warm and inviting. Wonderful to return to after a hard day's walking, to relax infront of the fire before heading out to the delights of Ambleside, just a few steps away. Can't recommend highly enough.

Had a wonderful weekend in this beautiful Ambleside home. Great location, only two minute walk from the town, down the wooded garden steps, yet fantastically private and secluded, you would have no idea you were that close to the town. Views of the Loughrigg fells from the patio windows, makes you feel you are in the middle of nowhere The house is well equipped, modern and spotlessly clean The precious reviews had said the parking space was tight, yet our ford s max people carrier fit with no problem.

This was one of the most comfortable, clean and well thought out holiday homes we have been in. It was central yet quiet and private, offering superb views. A great selection of books for information on the area was useful and appreciated. It was a lovely 'home' to come back to every evening.

This was our second visit to the property which is in an excellent location on the outskirts of Ambleside with wonderful views from the kitchen, lounge and patio. It feels secluded yet is within walking distance of all the amenities in Ambleside and Lake Windermere. The property is maintained to a high spec and I like the fact that there are simple instructions unobtrusively posted nearby each appliance for ease of use which beats ploughing through instruction manuals! The beds are comfortable and the bedding is of a high standard with a luxurious feel so extra long lies-in were a pleasure. The gardens are lovely with lots of variety and colour even in the depths of winter and the bright red berries on the bushes attracted lots of birds which, as a bird lover, I thoroughly enjoyed. The weather was wet and windy but we were snug and warm indoors and, with the view through the French windows, there were plenty of dramas in the natural world to hold our interest! I also like the book which was left by the owners in which they encourage guests to request anything which may make the property even more like home from home. I noted that the requests had been acknowledged and all the sensible ones had been implemented.

This is lovely for a weekend away. The reason we stopped here was because it's very close to the town centre of Ambleside which is at the north point of one of the lakes. The cottage was very clean and each room is fitted to a very high standard. At the front of the property there is a sliding door (seen in photos) which overlooks some great scenery of the Lake District. The location is great; a very short 30s walk down some stairs at the front of the property leads you right into the centre of Ambleside. Within the town there is a great choice of cafes/pubs/restaurants etc. My girlfriend and I loved our stay (she even joked about putting an offer in to the owner!). The only reason I have given this review 4 stars is because we found the mattress a little hard and the central heating is quite noisy when it switches itself on/off (which happens during the night).
