A nice cosy place to stay.. It was the second time we have stayed, will use again. Highly recommended.

We usually take a holiday in the Lakes every year.. We’ve stayed in many cottages but Heather Cottage really is the best one we’ve had the pleasure to stay in. Firstly the parking was superb! Location of the cottage wonderful! Even before we entered the cottage we were happy. The cottage was warm, clean and cosy. Everything regarding the instructions was clear and well explained. We ate various meals at the cottage and we were never found wanting. The Kitchen was really well stocked with cutlery, plates & pans. One more point! The porch! Brilliant when you have dogs!!

Fantastic cottage, well equipped, clean and warm, with thoughtful little extras like the OS maps and the Wainwrights.. Really excellent.

We've stayed here for 5 years.. Always great for our family, as a base for our walking! Great facilities, separate area near the front door for walking boots and coats. Only a 5 minute walk into Ambleside. Personal parking space, which can be rare in Ambleside. Perfect.

Hello, the only thing that concerned us is the hand rail needs to go all the way up the first set of stairs as there is nothing to get hold of, we felt it wasn't safe.. We would like to visit this cottage again if this was seen to. Thanking you. P.S. we will leave it up to you if you wanted to give feed back or not.

We were able to deal with the slug trail problem mentioned in a previous review.. My husband got up in the night and discovered the slugs and disposed of them. Since then there have been no slug trails. The cottage is lovely and well situated. The only problem we had was that the cupboards in the kitchen all smelt of damp, to the extent that I rinsed the glasses before using them. The problem may have come from people leaving the velux window open in the bathroom directly above. On one occasion, my husband left it open and rain had come in and wet the bathroom floor. The bathroom is directly above the kitchen. As we said in the Visitors Book, we would use the cottage again but it would be good if the damp problem was resolved.

There were slug trails every morning on the living room floor which was a real turn off.. I'm just glad I woke up early enough to try and cover it up before the 3 children saw them. If they did then I'm sorry to say I would have probably have had to cut my holiday short. I'm sure that the slug issue could be resolved quite easily but I won't be booking that particular cottage again. The reason I didn't highlight this issue at the start was because I did not want to alert the kids to the issue and I knew that it could not be fixed whilst we were out during the day etc. There was also a power cut which just affected our cottage but as it was so dark I couldn't see where the fuse box was. I rang the number on the front of the property and it was swiftly dealt with and with a call back to check if everything was okay the next day was very good. Everyone on the phone was very helpful and pleasant to speak to.

The property was wonderful and a great base for exploring the Lake District.. We were very impressed with the high quality finish including good mattresses and linen, a well equipped kitchen and a smart TV. On arrival the house was very nicely presented and spotlessly clean. I would certainly recommend it to others. When I contacted Sykes the response I received was warm and professional leading to my query being swiftly resolved. We did have some issues getting the washing machine to work - each time we tried to using it (On both mixed load and cottons cycles) it stopped and gave an error ("E-17"). After setting it running again a couple of times the cycle did eventually run to completion but this is something that may need to be looked into. The shaving light and adjacent plug socket in the double bedroom also did not appear to work.

We stayed at Heather Cottage for 6 nights. Good overall accommodation, well equipped. Even heated rails to hand wet boots etc in the porch. Would be cramped for 4 adults but great for 2 with a couple of kids. There were just 2 of us plus dog. Location was great, short walk to Ambleside town, lots of restaurants shops as well as easy reach for walks on local fells and waterfall. We liked the Priest hole restaurant and went to Sheila' s cottage twice. The Golden Rule pub is a lovely straightforward pub, no food, no music, just friendly atmosphere for a drink. The Freshers cafe is great for a snack lunch or coffee, very friendly. The Water head coffee shop is a must for the most delicious blueberry scones. Waterhead is 15 mins frpm the cottage walking. That's where you get the boat on Windermere.

The cottage was good and in a good location less than 5 minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. However, after a day or so, the children and I noticed some bites on our legs. By the middle of the week we were getting lots and we realised the house was full of fleas. Not pleasant at all. As there was no alternative accommodation we stayed put and kept out of the cottage as much as possible. The company were very apologetic and gave some compensation and it clearly wasn't their fault and only slightly spoiled an otherwise great holiday.

great cottage with everything you need plenty big enough for 2 adults and little ones but a tad small for 4 adults. Great having off street parking but was disappointed by no garden for the dog so had to walk the streets at 4am!

Just got back from a week spent in this lovely cottage. We stayed in Juniper cottage 2 doors down last year and loved the cottage and location so booked Heather cottage as it's bigger and we brought our 2 teenage boys with us this year. They were in the smaller room with bunk beds but were very comfortable. Our double room was equally as nice. Good bathroom, nice shower and like having a heated towel rail. Nice homely touches of flowers and ornaments, sometimes holiday cottages can feel a bit bare. This one feels like a home. Downstairs is a tiny bit more cramped for 4, especially getting in round the table for meals, but perfectly manageable and the kitchen was well equipped. Particularly like just how much storage space there is; from the boot racks and space for rucksacks in the lobby area, to the large utility cupboard off the kitchen. We didn't end up with bags and kit being tripped over, it could all be put neatly away at the end of each day. A real bonus. Even the dog was comfy on the dog mat provided. We used the washer/drier a few times but then noticed a leak so stopped. Contacted the office and they dealt with it all brilliantly and were very helpful. Always feel it's not if there's a problem (after all nothing in life is perfect) but how that problem is dealt with that matters and we couldn't fault how it was dealt with. Parking right outside the door. Easy almost level access into town with a good variety of shops for general essentials. Loads of brilliant walks possible right from the door to suit most abilities and a reasonably short drive to higher fells. Nights were cold so we were grateful for the heaters. Instructions for EVERY appliance and gadget were in the handy folder so no problems getting anything to work. Handy notes on things too, like location of shower isolation switch etc. Recommend the crispy duck from the Chinese round the corner too. Nicest we've ever had. Overall a great week, even the weather behaved itself!

This property is very centra to ambleside, and has parking which was a major bonus. Its more of a maisonette than a cottage. The decor is slightly dated, but overall it was comfortable and had everything that we needed for a few days. The only small gripe was the electric storage heaters, which seemed to come on overnight, regardless of whether you want them to or not.

Stayed at Heather Cottage for 4 days leading upto New Year 2014, great location really couldn't have asked for better, the actual cottage was clean, tidy and well presented, the only downside was unable to understand storage heating system plus no sky tv, however overal had a great time.

The cottage had all the amenities you could think of.It was spotlessly clean. The location was spot on. The only problem was having the dogs with us as there was no garden. We had to take them across the road to a grass verge. Otherwise a great holiday.

A lovely small cottage just a stone throw away from all the shops and restaurants in town. We took our newly acquired rescue dog with us and found dog bowls and rugs left in the cottage for him. The cottage is of a good standard and very clean and plenty big enough for our family of three. Although the cottage is in the centre of town it was surprising quiet. The only disppointing thing is that the big boys have moved in, like tescos and gregs. Lets hope there aren't many more as it is so much better shopping in the small independent shops. Can't wait to go back.k

Everything went very smoothly. Cottage was clean and well equipped and very comfortable. Great location, only a few minutes walk into ambleside and all amenities. Also good to have a parking space. Appreciated the free wi-fi too. Would recommend, and would definitely stay there again.

A late minute valentines booking. The cottage was easy to find and had parking outside the front door (which fro ambleside is a bonus). Fortunately it wasnt on a hill as many are in that are as it had snowed on the way over and we wouldnt have been able to get to the cottage that we stayed in last year. Cosy, very well equiped and thankfully takes pets. Perfectly located between ambleside and the lake; near shops and pubs.

Heather Cottage is a cosy little cottage which is conveniently situated a 5 min walk from the centre of ambleside. It has 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. All the facilities that you might need are provided. It is one we would choose to stay in again and would recommend without hesitation.

We found this cottage very well presented, with better than average contents and faciliies. Nothing much else was required to enjoy our stay. Location was perfect for this particular holiday where we wanted to be within short walking distance of ambleside, but was still quiet and comfortable. Overall very good.

Having two lively young boys, myself and my wife found our stay at Heather cottage, Ambleside a lovely experience. The weather was reasonably kind for us with only one day being rained off. Even so the facilities at the cottage were excellent, a real home from home. The boys loved the cottage and the location was excellent for trips out or long walks. Would definitely visit again.

Cottage was well located to get into ambleside. It was well equipped and nicely decorated at a reasonable price. One minor point we noticed - overflow pipe was constantly dripping from first floor outside the front window.
