Although the cottage is listed as having WiFi its only in 1 very small corner of the living room and it’s drops out every 2 minutes making you reconnect - my partner had to work for two days while we were away and we had to go and pay for a hotel for 2 nights in order to have a stable connection.. Other than that it was lovely - comfortable cottage and very clean , easy parking , beautiful views. Although a washing machine is present there’s no way of drying clothes as no clothes horse provided.

The cottage was fantastic it was warm and cosy and so clean, the people were very friendly and even though they lived on the property were happy to leave you to your privacy or have a friendly chat if you wanted.. However the customer service and helpfulness shown by the sykes team was disgraceful, I had emailed 6 times, months before our holiday with a number of queries and they were ignored until I got one rather rude reply basically saying either go and don't have the things i queried (which i found out you had misinformed me about and the couple running the cottage said were never an issue anyway!!) or cancel and lose yr money! There was no sorry we have ignored you or how can we help correct this or even sorry you have concerns? Just a blunt either go or cancel no refund reply!! Needless to say we won't be booking through Sykes again and have advised others of this before they consider your site if at all.

Everything was ok but you need to advertise that the hot tub is not a private one with the lodge booking

We arrived in the evening, it would have been helpful if the property signage was a bit more obvious from both directions..

Absolutely brilliant location, nice and quiet but near enough to visit interesting historical sites.. Nice local village with pubs within a mile, and great hot tub to relax in at the end of a busy day

Very friendly family owned cottages.. Lovely warm welcome and a pint of milk on arrival! Beds were comfy. Oven and fridge were spotless. The only thing was the carpet on the stairs on the way up could really have done with a good hoover and the mattress protector on one of the single beds was very dirty and stained. Could really be done with being changed. But couldn’t have asked for a nicer place and a warmer welcome. The family couldn’t have been more accommodating.

We stayed at The Hayloft in Alston, Cumbria.. The cottage was in a perfect location, it was very relaxing and easy to access both the lakes and the North Pennines and the delights that this area has to offer. The Owners of the cottage were perfect and ensured that our stay was perfect from start to finish, really friends and helpful hosts. We will be back to stay with them in the future, just perfect.

The hayloft was warm and comfortable and the owners were very welcoming.. We had lovely scenery but sadly due to the weather we couldn't go very far which was disappointing as my partner and myself had planned to take our dog on plenty of long walks. The hot tub was amazing and we will defintely be going back next year. Highly recommended

We had a great time at The Hayloft, from start to finish it was just perfect with an added bonus of the hot tub! Near to local shops/pubs/restaurants and lots of walking can be done also! We managed to have a lovely relaxed week away which has done us the world of good! The owners of the cottages are lovely and made sure we had everything we needed which was a lovely touch!

Very helpful owner, has the balance just right, they were there if we needed anything (more black bin liners, local information etc) but otherwise it was like being in our own place.. Stunning views, and really comfortable.

Great place to stay and handy for travel to surrounding points of interest.. As a biker, the location is ideal with fantastic roads and scenery. The cottage had everything we needed and although not luxurious, it represented great value for money and was also spotlessly clean. Mr. Younger was very welcoming and informative. Recommended.

Overall everything was fine and the hot tub a huge bonus , the only thing I could say to improve things is to have at least one mirror near a electric socket for hair drying ..

The cottage and hot tub was lovely, in a beautiful setting in Alston, Cumbria.. I think your website should let people know it is in the middle of nowhere with very little to do unless you travel 30+ miles. Other than that it is great if you want peace and quiet, great for walkers but not with 2 bored children after the novelty of the hot tub wore off!

What can I say about The Hayloft? ?? Absolutely brilliant!! The hospitality of the owners was 1st class. The cottage was always warm, very clean, Spacious & comfortable with utilities so u need for nothing The hot tub was fantastic until u get out then it's a quick run back to our home away from home ( well we would go in in February lol) Our boxer Georgie loved it here & settled into his new surroundings immediately ( normally he doesn't eat for a day on other holidays) & his new love now is a open fire! All this is surrounded by beautiful countryside & short drive to Penrith, Carlise, Keswick & Hexham of the places we visited We will definitely be booking again

The property was fine, but the shower did not work, you were either frozen or boiled.. I feel the resident owners were neglectful in this matter as the problem was highlighted to them by previous guests in their visitor book. We are familiar with this particular shower at home, so feel their excuses of water pressure and "no one else has complained" we're a bit lame. For the weekly fee paid, I would have liked more respect as a paying guest. The owners were both very nice and pleasant, but complacent in providing this basic facility.

Came for peace and quiet and that’s what we got. Even the dog loved it. Great hot-tub. Cottage was clean, comfortable and homely. Would highly recommend this place.

Great cottage, really cosy and was just perfect for 4 of us plus our dog for our new years eve break.. We had a nice bottle of wine and a few other essentials when we arrived. The village was about a mile away

Lovely cottage - warm and comfortable and perfect for our first holiday with our dog..
Dr Murray, October 2016
September 2016
The Hayloft is more akin to an apartment because for the most part it is on the first floor not the ground floor, the bathroom is on the ground floor as you enter.. This did not matter to us but maybe this should be made clearer in case a disabled person thought to book. The Hayloft is very comfortable with a high standard of comfort and cleanliness and modern decor. Mr and Mrs Younger were very welcoming and would have help had we needed any.
