  • "We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was warm and comfortable, we enjoyed the lovely view and the convenient location, quiet, but an easy walk to the harbour, with car parking and close to the Co-op store."

We were surprised not to find any handsoap in either the bathroom or the kitchen, and only 2 dishwasher tablets for a four day stay. We didn't find any information about the local area which is always helpful. There were other minor niggles which were just disappointing, a pair of scissors which didn't cut, saucepans too small for cooking a one pot dinner for 4, flimsy wine glasses, etc. Maybe this was just a result of visiting at the end of the season. It didn't spoil our stay, and I hope you find this feedback helpful. Best wishes Carol

The property

Renovated to an excellent standard throughout, The Porthole offers delightful coastal themed terraced accommodation in an elevated position in Port Isaac.

Whilst the property is spacious, tastefully decorated and boasts a wonderful conservatory, the real highlight of The Porthole is the breath taking views out to sea, and over the coastline towards Tintagel.

Enter through the handy porch into an open-plan kitchen and dining room, complete with a woodburner to make enjoyable family suppers even cosier in the winter months.

The separate sitting room is very comfortable and also has a woodburner and stripped wooden flooring throughout, whilst the conservatory is a fabulous spot for enjoying the sea views whatever the weather.

On the first floor is a family bathroom and three superbly furnished bedrooms, sleeping five people – two double bedrooms, one with spectacular coastal views, and one single bedroom also with impressive ocean views.

Open up the conservatory doors onto a decked furnished terrace area, a great spot for a glass of something chilled whilst gazing out over the seascape before you.

The property also has parking for two cars.

Walk five minutes from The Porthole and you will find yourself at Port Isaac harbour.

Famed as the fictional village of ‘Port Wenn’ in the long running TV series Doc Martin, this fishing village is picturesque and interesting in equal measure.

Visit the numerous shops, cafés and restaurants, where you can sample fresh fish caught off the North Cornwall coastline.

Or, visit one of the many nearby coves for sand castle building, rockpooling and water sport opportunities galore.

Head a little further, and after just 40 minutes in the car you will find yourself in the surfing paradise of Newquay.

The Porthole, with its multiple woodburners, conservatory and outside area truly is a desirable year-round holiday home – the perfect base from which to enjoy Port Isaac, whatever the season.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £200.

About the location

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.
