Stepping inside, we love the pared-back interiors with clapboard finishes and a muted palette that the Danes do so well. But it's the private sauna and Jacuzzi bath that's getting us hot under the collar. It’s perfect for a spot of rejuvenation while kids (and big kids) busy themselves with a game of table tennis or pool.

When it’s time to embrace the great outdoors, follow the boardwalks down to Marielyst’s shores, stretching for more than 20 km – its soft sands and shallow waters are ideal for families. Or, for something more adrenaline-fuelled, hit the nearby waterpark – you’ll have free entry included with your stay.
