Located on Rømø, an island just off the west coast of Denmark, everything about this home seems to be at one with nature. Seated on the terrace outside, you’ll find loads to admire in the actual design of the house – a modern take on a wood cabin – and the wild landscape immediately surrounding it. Trees and foliage grow boundless, a beautiful backdrop for a morning soap-up in the outdoor shower. Most rooms have doors that open up and, once again, connect to the native land beyond, and the geothermal heat, solar energy and heat pumps all preserve energy to be as kind as possible. Dining can be done alfresco, but you might not be able to ignore the call of the stylish minimalism of the interior. Again, the outside seems to have made its way inside in earthy wood tones and plenty of natural light. Cosy up in the evenings to watch the fire in the wood-burning stove, or challenge each to table football or a game on the console. The Wadden Sea National Park surrounding the island is a protected nature reserve and if you’re lucky, you might even see waterfowl resting before continuing their journey as they migrate every year.
