Jutland peninsula offers the wildest and most organic landscapes and seascapes. In the far north of this land, villages and settlements become more sparse, making your rural stay feel even more serene. This home sits on the western coast, with Nørlev Beach just 2 kilometres away. But that said, this fabulous display of wood might feel more like a forest than a seaside abode. With a traditional exterior, and even painted in the colours of the Danish flag, this 1980s build looks like a typically large lodge from the outside. Surrounded by lush, green lawns and patches of wild shrubbery, nature feels very close to home. Then as you get closer, a modern side comes into play. Renovated in 2002, the most interesting feature has to be the extensive use of glass panels. We found ourselves admiring the impressive, extended dining space, which feels more like a conservatory than part of the wooden structure. Bright and airy, this is the best spot to serve up smørrebrød on a sunny afternoon – unless it’s hot enough to sit out on the decking of course. Or to make your experience truly ‘hygge’, light up the log-burner for a warm glow around the wooden interiors and get cosy on the Scandi furniture.

Odense, the hometown of Hans Christian Andersen, is one of Denmark's most beautiful cities – with its medieval cobblestone streets lined...
