Moments from the beach, yet with its own indoor swimming pool and hot tub, this home on Bornholm Island is for all kinds of water babies. You’re in a quiet seaside village here, with a supermarket and restaurants within walking distance, and just along the coast, the harbour town of Nexø has a bit of buzz about it, where the ferry leaves for the mainland.

Though there’s plenty to keep you occupied in the ground of the home. We’ve already covered the indoor pool and hot tub, but there’s also a sauna for a long session of unwinding. Those travelling with kids might enjoy the sunken trampoline in the big lawn, the slide, swingset and basketball hoop too. A big patio out the back is set up for lunches in the sun at the banquet-sized table and catching some rays on the loungers.

Stepping inside, it’s a vision of Scandinavian charm. Think lightwood floors, ink-black furnishings and pendant lamps illuminating the space. That’s when sunlight isn’t flooding through those walls of glass, that is. The living area lends itself to big social gatherings, with a long dining table the focus and a sleek modern kitchen ready to impress the chef of the group. A second seating area can be found in the huge games room, which has a pool table, ping pong and foosball as well as a bar for evenings in.

*It's a bit of a walk (1km) to the grocery shop, so having a car is recommended
