We had a great time, the house was as promised, be prepared for steep hills (Crowther’s hill is a 33% incline) but with steep hills you also get fantastic views from most of the house.. If you think you can do the hills it’s definitely worth stopping at.

Lovely spacious cottage, only real drawbacks were we hadn’t appreciated just how steep it was and parking wasn’t really suitable for us as my husband is blind and we had a toddler with us, but this didn’t stop us enjoying the holiday.. We just think these points should be stressed more .

Overall the property met our requirements & expectations however we felt that there were a few things that need improvement .. The settee’s in the lounge are uncomfortable & in need of upgrading. The wood burner does not work The basin plug in the shower room does not work. The above were a little disappointing but did not spoil our enjoyment of the property as we had a short stay, but would be less acceptable if you had booked a longer stay!

Regatta House is an impressive ex Merchant/Sea Captain's residence built high on a near-vertical slope.. This means that you can see the harbour and the town from virtually all of its windows which is magic. However, it's high ceilings mean that you'll be going up and down four extensive flights of stairs - on top of the walk into town which is extremely steep, if very rewarding. So this lovely spacious house is not for the faint-hearted or those with arthritic knees. We loved the house and the town. Both have plenty to offer. The kitchen and bathrooms are very nicely done and we spent a lot of time with our family sitting round the dining table with its views of the town. We struggled to get comfortable and/or warm in the lounge as it (and the patio garden) are North facing and never see the sun. The log burning stove played us up all week and we are experienced with the eccentricities of real fires. It kept going out (probably due to damp logs). The sofas need replacing and offer no support/comfort whatsoever. It's a fine line between squidgy and sack of potatoes. Crowther's Hill is so interesting and historic. It would have been good to get some information on the history of the house. Overall, the house was very good value and we would recommend a stay.

We booked regatta house to escape building work at our house and enjoy the candlelight parade and festivities.. We had a lovely week but we should have been pre-warned that obvious building work was going on next door and was noisy - this was one of the reasons we came away so that was disappointing and annoying - especially early in the morning! Good: The house was well-equipped, well-located and comfortable. It was handy to have dishwasher tablets left and plenty of facilities for washing and drying clothes. Very nice house. Not so good: The highchair slanted so wasn't very safe for our toddler. The kindling and firelighters were missing. It is very steep access to the front door so just be aware if you have young children and buggies. The building work going on next door - which helpful holidays should have made us aware of in advance.

The communication from Sykes Cottages was excellent alll the way through the booking and up to the stay.. I appreciated the reminders and also the helpful information provided to get the best out of our stay. I also had a text from the owners to check everything way ok during our week. It was all very well managed and added to the holiday - thanks!

Great place, great location and only thing to prepare for are the hills.. ...but that gets easier and the views they afford you are stunning! Lots to see and do locally and some really nice pubs and restaurants too. Received a phone call from the property owner on the eve of our travel to Dartmouth......really nice touch! Recommended!!!

The house was a good size for our party and in a great location for the town.. Unfortunately, we felt misinformed about the car parking space which is at the top of another very steep hill from the house. Even being pretty fit, it was tough to climb the two hills from the house. The downstairs area (kitchen) had a very dirty floor on arrival and was also sticky underfoot. I can only assume this floor was missed when cleaning as the rest of the house was fairly clean, bathrooms were spotless. Sadly, this spoilt the excitement of the arrival as we had to vacuum and wash the floor before unpacking.

We loved Regatta House.. It was our second stay there. We are big fans of Dartmouth, but you will need to be fit to make the most of it. It is very hilly and even the old ladies in Dartmouth have leg muscles like Geoff Capes. There are great walks from the house, on both sides of the river and plenty of good places to eat out, or chill with a coffee.
