Ralston Cottage is a great base for enjoying the amenities of Gatehouse of Fleet, and the rest of the lovely surrounding countryside.

Situated on the Solway Firth, the small, country town of Gatehouse of Fleet is a peaceful place, decorated in pretty pastel colours. Set in the gorgeous Dumfries and Galloway countryside and within five minutes drive of beautiful sandy beaches, there is also a loch and the opportunity to try river fishing. Founded in around 1760, the town was originally a mill community and today a visitors' centre set in the former bobbin mill - Mill on the Fleet – tells the story of Gatehouse's cotton spinning days. The town now boasts several shops, including a baker, butcher, grocer, bank and post office whilst a number of the pubs also serve food and welcome children.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

This was our third visit.. The cottage is first class in every way. I have nbo hesitation in recommending it!

Had a great time celebrating the new year with family at Ralston cottage.. It was very comfy with everything that we would have at home . Also a lovely touch being greeted with a Christmas card and biscuits and chocolates. As other people have mentioned would recommend blackout curtains in bedrooms and maybe a lock on downstairs bathroom.

This cottage needs a deep clean.. Don't understand trip advisor given this cottage high rating.very poor in cleanliness.cobwebs and someone's underwear stuck down behind radiator. Never stayed in one like this before.

The cottage was great all the things we needed for a lovely week away could have done with a dusting though nothing too bad just a few cobwebs .. the area was nice aswell 2 pubs in the village but if you just want a drink you will be pushed out of your seat and table by a arrogant landlady in 1 of the pubs to make way for people ordering food galloway lodge preserves is a great cafe and further afield is hills and harbour gin distillery and threave castle and gardens well worth a visit all in all a great week and the positives far out weigh the negatives and highly reccomend the cottage

We enjoyed our stay in Gatehouse of Fleet, unfortunately the weather wasn't the best but you cannot organise that.. The cottage was much bigger than we expected, with realy comfortable beds. The grandchildren enjoyed the large garden and lovely summer house, which we were not expecting. My only comments would be that locks would be good on the bathroom doors and there was not much cupboard space in the kitchen as there seemed an excessive amount of crockery, also there were only 4 dinning chairs and there were 7 in our party. We had a lovely family holiday and would certainly recomend this cottage.

There are plenty of walks in the area.. The facilities in Gatehouse of Fleet are limited at this time of year but there was enough to keep us happy_good pub food, a local Spar and friendly people.

The property is far more spacious than it looks on the website, with the widest chairs I have ever seen.. At the time of booking, it did say WiFi was available, which it was not. However, this has now been removed from the listing. It was warm and comfortable and very quiet. A really good place for a holiday.

We know the area visit regularly. The cottage was comfortable more than adequately stocked. Also very handy for village pub, but wasn't noisy when we sat out in the evening.

Had the pleasure of staying at Ralston Cottage for a week this summer. I can honestly say this place is fantastic value for money ! 3 double rooms, 1 single room, 2 bathrooms, 1 lounge and a dining room plus a fully equipped kitchen ! All immaculately clean - amazing value - plus a lovely garden to sit and relax in ! - highly recommended ! Definitely will return - thank you for a lovely holiday

The cottage is in a pleasant, quiet street, within very easy walking distance of shops and eateries. It is ideally situated for various visits to beaches, outdoor centre, other small towns. There are plenty of eating places, either for snacks or meals, and the local park has several lovely walks. The garden at the cottage is safe for young children and is quite spacious. Our experience on the whole was very enjoyable and as this was our second time in the cottage, hopefully not our last.

The cottage and garden are both ideal for families, the only thing which would improve it would be the addition of curtains in all the bedrooms, especially for the children's rooms. The tap on the kitchen sink was very loose, and gradually become looser through use. Shopping for provisions in Gatehouse is fine and the new Deli is excellent. There are several places for eating out., either for a snack or a meal. There are beaches nearby , and for more seriious shopping, both Kirkcudbright and Castle douglas are within easy reach.Laggan Out door Centre is also a great attraction and is wirth a visit, even if only to watch the more energetic people using all the facilities. We all enjoyed our stay very much and hope to repeat it.
