Quaker Cottage description

Holiday home
The Cottage is a high quality, well-presented holiday home, formerly a Quaker Meeting House, in a quiet conservation area of Sherborne. This romantic property has a king-size double bedroom, and a further single with additional pull-out bad, making it ideal for couples or small families alike. There is a bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC. Downstairs is an attractive open plan living area with kitchen, dining area and a sitting area with a woodburner. Outside, there is a small graveled front sitting area, and parking can be found in the surrounding roads or local pay and display car parks. With the abbey and castles of Sherborne on the doorstep, and the beautiful Dorset countryside surrounding you, The Cottage makes an ideal base for a restful year-round break.

Area
Set in the midst of stunning, unspoilt countryside, the picturesque buildings, ancient inns and quaint shops of the ancient town of Sherborne, line the banks of the River Yeo. This charming, rural settlement is probably best known for its beautiful abbey and two imposing castles - the newer of which dates back to 1594 and boasts incredible Tudor landscaped gardens. Sherborne is a great place for sightseeing, or simply having an afternoon stroll along the riverbank, though if you're looking for more activities, a short drive will take you the stunning Stourhead house and gardens. The wonderful Dorset heritage Coast is well worth a visit and just across the Somerset border is the fabulous Fleet Air Arm Museum, situated at Yeovilton. With its displays of historic aircraft – including the Concorde – this trip is interesting for aviation enthusiasts and fans of military history.

Region
Explore the fossils and stunning beaches of Dorset's Jurassic Coast, visit historic Sherborne and Shaftesbury, or enjoy the footpaths, country lanes and thatched-roof pubs Dorset offers.

Gorgeous cottage with brilliant location in the centre of Sherborne.. it's quite small but perfect for 3 of us and is really well equipped. This was oour 4th stay in Quaker Cottage and hope we can stay again soon.

This is a very nice cottage, cosy clean and comfortable with full kitchen utensils, dishwasher, tea towels etc.. Bathroom very good and again good quality towels provided. Lovely comfortable beds. The only slight downside is the outlook to the cottage which is the back of a pub. I would however still recommend this as a base.

The cottage was very nice, warm and the furnishings very good (big towels too! ). The bath set up was strange as you could use the normal taps to fill it up you had to use the shower.

It was the second time we’ve stayed at Quaker Cottage.. It is very comfortable and ideally placed to access the amenities in Sherborne. The area is lovely lots of things to see and do within striking distance. Visited several National Trust properties in the area as well as Wells Cathedral.

Bedrooms, bathroom and kitchen acceptable.. However, lounge area disappointing with regard to furniture, very shabby and uncomfortable. Television could be slightly bigger. Front forecourt extremely disappointing, bearing in mind no garden. Very dirty, hedge needed thinning and clipping. Only 2 chairs (4 person cottage) and both dirty and rusty. Table virtually non existent. Hardly call it a table as it was planks of wood attached to wall and a rusty wrought iron upright. Photos on website did not reflect certain aspects. Have taken photos to illustrate.

This cottage needs some serious cleanliness and maintenance requirements to make it an acceptable rental. Tucked away in a small street with no parking, costs to use public car park daily round the corner. Very close to the heart of Sherborne. Did not stay for the week we had booked, but left a few days early as did not feel comfortable here. Very disappointing for the amount that we paid for this. Will not be visiting again.

We stayed at Quaker Cottage for a week with our daughter and son-in-law. It completely exceeded our expectations. A delightful cottage with lovely furnishings, very comfortable beds, and everything needed for a relaxing holiday. And on the one occasion we needed to ask for help from the manager he came immediately, and cheerfully, to our aid. Sherborne is a charming town, with good shopping, pubs and restaurants (the cottage is behind The George pub, and two minutes walk to Waitrose) and well situated for touring the pretty Dorset countryside. We will definitely stay there again.

Great cottage - clean, warm, convenient and a stone's throw from Sherborne High St. Top-class mattress too in main bedroom, had a very pleasant night sleep! Lovely walks out of town into the surrounding countryside. Very easy to book and easy to find! We had a fantastic long weekend at Quakers Cottage!

This lovely cottage was perfect in every way. Very well appointed and extremely comfortable. There a a teeny glitch in the bedding and the delightful owner rushed over to sort it out with a basket of fresh muffins and a lovely warm char! The cottage is a perfect base for walking and exploring Sherborne. We were nervous about parking our two cars but managed to do so free in George Lane every day.

Proximity to town and places of interest to visit is great and we did stay here before but parking is a real pain especially with children. Inside the cottage is well presented and pretty bedrooms.

January 2014
The central location in Sherborne really can't be beat. The cottage was super cosy and really comfortable. Lots of lovely hot water from the excellent shower too. Parking just behind the cottage in a public car park was convenient and really reasonable. The fact that Quaker Cottage was pretty much next to a toy shop, a knitting shop and an artisan bakery made it hugely perfect for all my family!

August 2013
What a lovely character cottage, just great for the two of us, and the open plan design to keep things light and airy even on a dark and rainy day! We would like to come again in the winter and use the wood burner!

My mum and I had an excellent week in this rather quaint cottage. It has bags of character and the owners have put some nice pieces of furniture and art work around the place. There is only a very tiny outside space at the front and the property is directly behind a pub. It was quite difficult to find as it is tucked up a little side road. There is no parking and the access is limited. Parking in the long stay carpark at 2.80 per day was not too bad but did mount up over the week. Sherborne is beautiful with lots of shops and cafes - and a stunning abbey.

Quaker Cottage is a delightful little cottage, ideally situated in the small town of Sherbourne. We were warmly welcomed by the owner who made sure we had all we needed for a comfortable stay. Everything you could want is on the doorstep including an artisan baker, lovely little shops and fantastic dog friendly pubs. Although it is a dog friendly cottage the front yard is tiny but there are plenty of lovely walks nearby. Would have given 5 stars but parking a bit tricky, a good value council car park very close by.
