Priory Walk description

Holiday home
Priory Walk is a wonderful, semi-detached cottage in Whithorn, in Dumfries and Galloway on the Machars peninsula. The cottage has three bedrooms upstairs; two king-size double rooms, one of which has an en-suite WC, plus a small double room and a family bathroom. The kitchen has a dining area and the sitting room has a woodburning stove. The kitchen has doors that open onto the patio to the side of the cottage, where you can enjoy a barbecue and dining in the sunshine, in the summer. There is plenty of off road parking, and lots to see and do nearby, making Priory Walk a fantastic base for friends and family groups all year.

The Machars peninsula is home to the town of Whithorn, renowned for having the first recorded Christian Church in Scotland. The town also has an archaeological site and a medieval priory and is an area rich in history.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

Oil central heating with woodburning stove. Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV with Freeview, DVD, WiFi, selection of books, games and DVDs. Fuel, power and starter pack for stove inc. in rent. Bed linen, towels and robes inc. in rent. Cot and highchair on request. Ample off road parking at rear. Small side patio with furniture and BBQ. One well-behaved pet welcome. Sorry, no smoking. Shop and pub 10 min walk. Note: En-suite WC accessed down two steps from bedroom. Note: Mobile signal can be intermittent.

September 2020
We booked this cottage for a week, and when we arrived we were impressed, it's a lovely looking cottage and at first quite spacious, for 2. The kitchen/diner as everything you need and is lovely to sit and have breakfast, but in the evening the lounge is awful, the sofa isn't adequate for 2 adults to relax, and the alternative is two upright armchairs that would be more suitable in a nursing home. So I don't know how it could be suitable for 6 people, we had lovely weather which was a surprise in September for Scotland but you couldn't really set outside as it is more like an alleyway than a patio. I know it's not really related to the cottage but the town its in is the most depressing, deprived place we have stayed there is absolutely no where within walking distance to have lunch, a coffee, a beer absolutely nothing. Sorry forgot to say one small pub about 10 minutes walk away that still had Christmas decorations on the outside and looks filthy. This had us driving at least an hour plus to find a decent place for lunch or dinner. Our week stay here was cut short after 4 days and we drove to the lakes and booked in a hotel for the rest of the week. A place we would never go back.

This is a charming little house in a quiet cut de sac off the main street. It is very well appointed with a high standard of fittings and linen throughout. What makes it really special is the thought the owners have put into every little detail. We went with friends who were equally impressed. A great few days of dashing about were made more enjoyable with the thought of such a cosy welcoming house to return to. Thoroughly recommended.

Priory Walk is a comfortable, clean, period house.. Everything that we needed was there. Lovely and warm. Location - a stone's throw from the ruined Priory and the Iron Age Roundhouse - is wonderful and the people of Whithorn are kind and friendly. Highly recommended.

The cottage is a perfect base for exploring the area.. It is in a peaceful spot and tastefully decorated as well as being very comfortable and cosy. The cotttage is really well equipped with everything one could possibly need and there were logs provided for the wood burning stove. Will definitely return and enjoy another weeks holiday there - really super!

Lovely cottage in a lovely area.. Loads of space for 6. Everything we needed was there. Booked last minute (6pm the night before) the house was ready for us when we arrived. All bed linnen and towels were supplied along with some essentials (tea, coffee, bottled water, washing up liquid and toilet rolls). Overall we had a great, relaxing and peaceful break . Thanks Linda

Gorgeous cottage.. Very quiet, warm and cosy. Very well equipped with toilet rolls, soaps etc etc and milk. The only downside (no fault of the owner) was it was dirty. The carpets hadn’t been hoovered & the worktops were dirty, bathroom mirror covered in toothpaste. We spent an hour cleaning before we unpacked. Not 5 *quality which it states in the description. Also it could do with a bit of a makeover-lots if visible damp coming through the paintwork and paintwork overall shabby. Could be stunning!!

10 on 10 all round.. Close to shops, churches, sea, excellent walks. People of Whithorn friendly and welcoming. The cottage could not be more comfortable and we especially appreciated the well chosen paintings in each room - also the welcome box left for us, we've already recommended it to our friends.

Beautiful well presented cottage in a lovely small town with lots of character.. Friendly people who always say hello. The facilities provided are exceptional. It's nice to find a cottage as beautiful as this that takes dogs. Lovely big table to seat six comfortably In the kitchen. Special little touches ensure that the owners make their guests feel welcomed.

Priory Walk is a delightful house, beautifully fitted and carefully maintained.. The welcome pack was most welcome and much enjoyed and appreciated. The heating was on, functioning and kept the house cosy and it was good to be able to have the woodburner on too, to add to the cosy ambience. We were three adults and really enjoyed the space. I like the gentle yet thorough way in which Sykes maintain contact, send reminders and information in an encouraging and supportive way, which is efficient, professional and yet warm. Congratulations to your computer wizard.

Great base to explore Dumfries & Galloway it’s an area of stunning beauty and at this time of year you get miles of it all to yourself .. ...perfect. The cottage standard was 5* could not fault it , the equipment provided should be the standard all Sykes owners aim for very impressive. All the local people we met were super friendly and the local food was gorgeous. We will be telling all our friends to go and discover this area, roads with no traffic , miles of woodland and beaches all to yourself and you haven’t had to travel to end of the world to find them.

The property was beautiful; everything that you could need was there and ready for use. The real fire was a bonus and all ready for us to light. It is in a lovely location just off the main road and was very quiet. There are great dog friendly pubs in the area. A lovely place to use as a base and explore the beautiful area, coast line and beaches which our dog loved and so did we!

We fell in love with the cottage and the area and felt totally relaxed. The cottage was the perfect base for our holiday and the owners have really paid attention to every little detail which made for a perfect holiday. We were both struck dumb when we walked through the front door (including my OH for once, and he is never short of a comment!) as we were quite overwhelmed with the attention to detail. The fresh flowers and welcome pack were a thoughtful addition together with the fact absolutely everything we could need cleaning wise was already provided. Absolutely the best and most relaxing holiday we have had for a very long time. Priory Walk is undoubtedly the best place to stay for the ultimate relaxing holiday base.
