Oxen Cottage (our ref 2355) description

Holiday home
This detached, single-storey barn conversion is located on the owner's organic farm, on the edge of Upper Seagry. Set in the lush countryside of North Wiltshire and only six miles from the ancient town of Malmesbury, this property boasts character features such as high vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and staddle stones set into the wall. Oxen Cottage makes an excellent base at any time of year.

This rural location provides a great base from which to explore this fascinating area and visitors can enjoy ample footpaths and bridleways, or alternatively, take a trip to Malmesbury boasting a 12th Century Benedictine Abbey. The Cotswold Water Park offers a great day out, whilst Westobirt Arboretum - with its extensive collection of trees and shrubs - is not to be missed. The picturesque village of Castle Combe is within easy driving distance and is well known for its car racing track whilst the quaint National Trust village of Lacock is also close by and was used as the setting for the BBC TV serial, 'Cranford'. The impressive Roman city of Bath, Bowood House, and the ancient stone circle at Avebury are all within an hour's drive and are well worth visiting.

The cottage was a good base and had all the necessity requirements. It was very peaceful and the surrounding views were excellent. We received a warm welcome prior to and on arrival. Recommendations were provided on places to visit and eat. Would recommend to family and friends and the kids have already asked to return.

An extremely comfortable and well appointed holiday home.. Set in a beautiful, quiet area. Nothing was too much trouble for Martin the owner of Oxen cottage. We had a lovely welcome package including a basket of a dozen fresh organic eggs and a box of delicious Florentines. We would highly recommend a holiday in this cottage and will most definitely return

The cottage was lovely - décor was very well co-ordinated - it's those little extra touches that make all the difference.. All the equipment we needed was provided. The bathrooms are excellent with everything placed appropriately to make it simple to use with all at hand. Fresh eggs, milk and biscuits were there to greet us as was Martin who showed us round and explained anything we needed to know. The property is right in the Wiltshire countryside, which is beautiful with lots of picturesque villages in the area. National Trust and English Heritage properties are in close proximity as is Westonbirt Arboretum, Lacock and Castle Combe. Longleat is about 20 miles away and well worth a visit. There are so many things to see in the area, we may have to return. In addition, the weather couldn't have been better. A most enjoyable stay. Thank you.

The eggs that were left and Wee starter of coffee and tea ect were a lovely touch.. Thank you. It was an extremely clean and comfortable cottage. Very much home from home. The only thing that could be improved would be to put a Wee fence around the front to keep the dogs in and so we could leave the patio doors open on a hot day. The dogs loved the freedom of the field. The owner was very helpful and pleasant. The other thing missing was a washing machine and worst of all for teenagers no wifi. We were there to visit family so not such big problem for us Also a www manual for the house explaining all the basics ( how to use the cooker, dishwasher where the dog friendly field was and maybe where the nearest super market is ect). Overall a very lovely cottage.

Very comfortable and stylish cottage situated within easy access of the M4 (but no traffic noise).. Warm welcome from Martin and much appreciated welcome pack of a dozen fresh eggs, milk, biscuits, etc. Cottage is light and airy and the beds are really comfortable. Lovely part of Wiltshire with plenty of charming villages to visit. The New Inn is a short drive and provides delicious food.

Oxen cottage is beautifully furnished and spacious, you couldn't ask for môre for a perfect few days.. Martin is there if needed but not intrusive, and supplied some wonderful eggs from the farm! We would defiantly return if we wanted time in the Cotswolds as a great base for sightseeing
