Holiday home
Oscar House is a detached house in the Cumbrian town of Kirkby Stephen. The cottage sleeps four people in upside down accommodation with two ground floor bedrooms, a double and a twin, next to a family bathroom. On the first floor is a kitchen with a dining area and a sitting room with a Juliet balcony. Outside is off road parking and am enclosed lawned garden and patio. Just a couple of minutes' walk from the town centre, Oscar House is a superb base for discovering the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks.

Accomodation Details
Two ground floor bedrooms with TV: 1 x king-size double, 1 x twin (zip/link, can be super king-size double on request). Ground floor bathroom with corner bath, separate shower, basin and WC. First floor kitchen with dining area. First floor sitting room with Juliet balcony.

Area
Situated at the foot of the Howgill Fells in the upper Eden Valley is the old market town of Kirkby Stephen. Set between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks this traditional market town hosts a variety of shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs, catering for every taste and budget. With a thriving local community and many traditional old dwellings, Kirkby Stephen boasts a large number of cobbled old yards, quaint corners and a pretty picnic area called Frank's Bridge, whilst just a mile from the town is the old railway station on the Settle to Carlisle Railway line. Visitors can enjoy many excellent walks and cycle routes nearby or explore the magnificent Howgill Fells and the majestic Pendragon Castle. This is an excellent location that has something for the whole family.

We have just returned from a week at Oscar House and all I can say is Brilliant! ! The cottage was beautifully presented and had everything included to make our stay perfect. The generous welcome pack included wine, nibbles, milk, etc. and was really appreciated. A good selection of videos, books and games were also provided. Places such as Hawes and the stunning Ribblehead Viaduct were only a short distance away and Kirkby Stephen centre with a its shops, cafes and pubs was literally two minutes walk. Overall we were very impressed with Oscar House and the facilities offered and would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful cottage.

Excellent cosy base for exploring the Howgill Fells and indeed other surrounding areas.. Great views in all directions. A treat to have so much space and equipment in the kitchen - a self-catering cottage where that's not only possible but a pleasure! Lovely welcome pack too.

This cottage is an extremely comfortable and warm property with countryside views in one direction (but not the other) and within walking distance of the shops and cafes (admittedly, not many) that are in Kirby Stephen.. It is easy to envisage a car not being used very much during a stay here, as so much is on your doorstep. The Settle Carlisle Railway is about two miles away (Kirby Stephen West Station) and parking at the Station is free: you then have the chance of travelling this scenic line in either direction, either towards Carlisle or Leeds. The cottage has everything you could need (except a reading lamp and a decent iron, but no doubt the owners will rectify that) and there is parking for one car at the cottage gate. Despite being so close to the town, the location is quiet and pleasant, whatever the weather. The owners are on hand, if needed, and helpful, but not obtrusive. The cottage is also 'pet free', a major advantage.

The updates and information from Sykes (using their app) was brilliant.. Once there, Oscar house was well presented and cosy, a perfect base for our weekend. I would definitely recommend both Sykes and Oscar house.

Oscar cottage is a fantastic cottage in both facilities and location.. The owners Sylvia and Ian have thought if absolutely everything. Unfortunately due to a bereavement our plans had to change at the last minute, they went above and beyond to accomadate us. What a place! We have stayed in loads of holiday cottages and this has been the best by far! No expense spared. So clean, cosy and comfortable. Wonderful views from the upstairs living room. Fabulous kitchen and the beds were so comfortable - better then home! Lovely hosts who left us a welcome pack which was really appreciated. 2 minute walk from the main high street with bakery, butchers, pubs and cafes. Easy drive into the Lake District or Yorkshire Dales. We will be returning!

Fantastic cottage.. We have two cottage holidays a year and this is one of the best we have stayed in. On the edge of fields but with all the facilities of the town only two minutes walk. Felt like home immediately.

A beautiful holiday cottage which was a real home away from home.. Every need catered for with extra touches as well, welcome pack, wine fridge, slow cooker, superking bed - need I go on! Very well situated just off the high street but extremely quiet with no disturbances. The owners, Sylvia and Ian were very attentive and on call if we needed anything. Would love to return.

This is pure good taste and quality, with no expense spared in comfort and equipment. It was sparkling clean and superbly comfortable. Friendly owners Sylvia and Ian were in contact to make sure everything was all right, and their key safe (we received the combination lock number from them by text) saved us the bother of messing around collecting a key. This is the way to do it. Self-catering holiday accommodation doesn't get any better than this – it's simply the best.

It has set a new high standard, and the distinction of easily being the best accommodation we've experienced. We had a lovely week at Oscar House which is within easy walking distance of shops, cafes and pubs.. The decor / facilities are of a high standard and the owners are very welcoming - thank you for the wine / mince pies and welcome pack. They were very much appreciated. There's plenty of beautiful walks from Kirkby, we didn't use our car. You are also well placed to explore Yorkshire and Cumbria if you want to venture further.

The cottage was lovely, clean, tidy and nice and warm.. The views from the upstairs lounge were a delight especially watching the sheep graze and the wild rabbits run around. There were views as far as the eye could see. Kirkby Stephen is a lovely little town with all the facilities you need when on holiday. Lots to do in the surrounding areas. Well worth a visit.

Everything is excellent about the cottage the location and ease of walking to the local pubs and restaurants we brought loads of stuff with us for our weeks stay but it was already in the cottage,meet the owners who were excellent especially if we had any problems etc.
