A short stroll will bring you to the centre of this Cornish fishing town and all that it offers from a working harbour to the foodie empire of TV chef, Rick Stein and the Michelin starred restaurant No 5.
Padstow’s narrow streets lined with cafés, local shops, bars and restaurants all gravitate to the pretty little harbour where you can rest up and enjoy a Cornish ice cream or pasty while watching the boats set sail. You can also book a fishing trip and try to catch the evening’s supper for the BBQ back at the house.
The Camel Trail is close by, a multi-use flat trail which used to be a railway to the town, but is now the perfect route to cycling, walking or horse riding along the banks of the River Camel, a wild bird haven that flows inland. Venture inland to Wadebridge and onward to Bodmin for lunch and a pint, or a cream tea in one of the many cafés. Don’t worry about the bikes there are many bike hire shops in Padstow. A favourite is to ride to Wadebridge and back and enjoy fish and chips from Rick Steins restaurant on the quayside.
A ferry crosses the mouth of the estuary on which Padstow sits to the pretty little village of Rock. The beaches of Daymer Bay and Polzeath are well worth a visit as is the church in the dunes, the final resting place of Sir John Betjeman, the former poet laureate.
Padstow is surrounded by world class golf courses from Trevose to St Enedoc and the Point at Polzeath, a golfer’s paradise. For the water sports enthusiasts look no further than the excellent surfing beaches of Harlyn Bay, to Polzeath and nearby Newquay to the gentle pastime of kayaking and stand up paddle boarding to wake boarding and water skiing, you can take part in them all just minutes from this delightful holiday home in the ideal location. Horse riding, coastal walks and sailing are all available nearby. Beach ½ mile. Shop and pub 400 yards, restaurant 150 yards.
