Holiday home Old Bank House is a characterful house in Cark in Cartmel. With six bedrooms, two doubles, two second floor twins, a single and a bunk room, it sleeps eleven comfortably. There is also a bathroom, a shower room, a ground floor cloakroom, a kitchen with dining area, a dining room with a woodburner and a sitting room with a woodburner. Outside there is a courtyard garden and roadside parking. Old Bank House is a large house in a great location, ideal for a large family.
Area The small village of Cark in Cartmel lies just a couple of miles from its more famous neighbour, Cartmel, in lovely Lakeland countryside. Cark is a stop on the Furness railway, and visitors to the village will enjoy a stroll to the local beach, or a quiet pint in one of the two friendly pubs. Holker Hall house and deer park are just a short walk from Cark. Cartmel is renowned for its racecourse, and the town is well served with a selection of shops, traditional pubs and a Michelin starred restaurant. There is so much to enjoy in the area, from country walks to boat trips on Windermere or a trip to the seaside resort of Grange over Sands. A great Lakeland base for your holiday.

Note: Due to the open plan nature of the garden steps, children are to be supervised at all times.
Very Good home for five nights.. Conveniently located in the southern Lakes Peninsulas, with 3 good pubs and a convenience store in walking distance. Plenty of room space over three floors with a modern well equipped kitchen.
A few of things to be aware of:
1) There was no dish washing cloth/brush provided. This may be because of COVID
2) The dishwasher was broken (bottom shelf)
3) There is only one shower and one bath in the property, so at full capacity of 11 sleepers this could be a bottleneck.

Property was just ok needs maintaining.. Nothing to see in the village you need to travel elsewhere. Would recommend engine inn food is amazing.

Fantastic old house with loads of character.. Property was very clean and tidy with loads of space, everything could require was provided. Can recommend the Rose and Crown and the Engine Inn - Both with fantastic food (and drink- hic.) and both within crawling distance. also the nearby bakery which was amazing :o) Thanks for a superb weekend. Only slight downside would be the front door, its really sticky and the lock seems to be on its last legs - Took us a while to get in - we ended up using the back door which was a bit more user friendly :o)

The cottage was comfortable with some quirky features.. Initially the different levels on the ground floor caught us out but after a few days we became used to them. We did have a problem with one of the toilets not flushing but the company looking after the maintenance replaced it during our stay. Also, strangely, the central core of the coaxial plug in the front room was missing so we could not use the television there. There were not enough batteries in the handset either. The Hive central heating control system was excellent; I would consider installing one in my own property. The shower was good and heated up quickly, but the attachment of one of the guide rollers in the top of the door had corroded away so the door itself had to be lifted to open and close it.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay.
Wonderful house for large family celebrations.. Our second visit and was delighted with the new cooking range. We felt very much at home.
There was enough space for us all (9 adults and 2 children) and we had a good time in the house.. The living room has some patches of damp on the walls and does smell a little.
However, the owner was kind enoygh to put up Christmas decorations for us which made our Christams week there very festive. The house is in a good location, and even though it is on the side of the road, once you are inside you don't notice. The kitchen is good and had everything we needed to cook our Christmas dinner. We had a good week.
We enjoyed our visit to Old Bank House, finding it to be comfortable, quirky and spacious.. The kitchen was well equipped and we loved the huge table in the dining room. The house was warm for our chilly November stay. We look forward to returning again in future.
Sykes should produce a proper inventory beforehand so you know what to take (eg crockery cutlery pans etc).. Didn't say it had a dryer. Couldn't get on to Wifi. No starter pack for fire, no coal in bunker.
House was superficially clean but in need of TLC.
Single glazed windows were ringing wet, losing heat all the time.
Bathrooms need updating.
Plus side did sleep 11 in reasonable comfort with well equipped kitchen.

The house is centrally located in Cark.. The facilities within the property were adequate although the decoration is a little dated. There is one shower which resulted in a queuing system which added to the fun of the weekend. the inside of the house was clean to a good standard but the outside needed a little attention. We all enjoyed the weekend and look forward to visiting the area again.

We had a lovely stay in the village of Cark in Cartmel.. The property was lovely with plenty of space and very cosy. There are two pubs, a bakery and London within 2 minutes walk of the house so very convenient. We would definitely stay again!
We had a lovely holiday at Old Bank House.. We found the facilities in the house suitable for all age groups. The children loved playing with all the toys upstairs and had a wonderful time.Lovely comfy beds and lovely and warm throughout the house. Good supply of hot water. The only thing that we thought could be improved on was the shortage of large pans, cutlery and glasses.
What a lovely little village everyone so friendly. Used the village store, bakery and Engine Inn all excellent. Plenty of good easy walks from the door step.
Would love to return, maybe next Christmas time.

The house was lovely and full of character, old and well situated, we went for a christmas holiday and was only dissapointed with the bad cheap decoration that was lazily thrown on a couple picture frames and shabby little tree, we left our house looking far more festive and beautiful knowing we would not even be there! The house was quite diffcicult to warm up but again it was a big old house so wearing layers helped. The pub round the corner was lovely and we were very close to the train sation which was conveniant.
We had a brilliant stay at The Old Bank House for a stag do last weekend.. The property was great - big, comfy, great location in between two great pubs. The decor is a little dated but if anything it adds to its charm. Communication with the owner was super straightforward, very helpful and easy in terms of check in and out,

The good points: great location, large enough to house a large group of people, fairly clean, well equipped kitchen, games and toys for children
Weak points: very dated interior (although kitchen was modern), shower didn't work very well, fridge was not working, the plug had been taped on to the extension lead, on closer inspection, we found the fuse had been replaced with a piece of tin foil (dangerous!). Could have done with more loo rolls. In all, not bad but disappointing as the rental was quite expensive.
This was a great location; the cottage was very comfortable and we would go back when we return to the area.
Liked the luxury of the open fire and general atmosphere of the house.
Stayed here with friends over the new year period. House was pleasant enough but dark and wouldn't say it felt friendly although our stay was pleasant enough. Had to go out on arrival to stock up on wood for the fire - okay but had we arrived late on wouldn't have been quite so easy about it. Been to quite a few houses over the years but this wasn't one I'd like to return to. Very basic accommodation but clean - the plus is the ease to get to places from Cark. Might just be me and the house may suit others better.
Heating very efficicient/userfriendly....we had 4 month twins with us so that was very important for us.
Good location....friendly village.
The bedrooms were well furnished, the location was good, near pubs and a shop. There was plenty of room to relax ( 2 living rooms , both with a TV/DVD.)

Greeted by suspicious damp smell.
Very 'bitty' decor with woodwork painted dark brown.
One of the two ovens does not work.
Fridge has been repaired with a DIY handle, is difficult to open and leaks puddles on to the floor.
Vertiginous stone steps in the garden are a hazard for small children and the elderly.
Had a wonderful couple of days with all the family. Felt really homely particularly once the fire was going! Everything you need. Kids loved it!
