Property Description

This house stands on 1 acre of lawn dotted with trees and shrubs. There is a wonderful little stream running at the end of the back garden - the ideal place to spend some 'quiet time' under the large over-hanging trees and listen to the stream. We have installed a bench and table on the river-side deck, for ease of reading the daily newspaper, an interesting book or just having a cup of coffee.

The house is within easy walking distance of the village where there is a number of small restaurants, one hotel and some pubs, where, on occasion, during the season, there are Irish music sessions.

There is a wonderful extensive playground in the village park for children, also an exercise area for the 'not so young'! The park, known as Inis Cealtra, has a wonderful maze which is fun for everyone, and very informative.

The marina is overlooked by the park and easily accessible and local boats and operators are available for exploring the beautiful lake. There is also a safe sandy area next to the marina for swimming.

Lough Derg is one of the largest lakes in Ireland - famous for it's May Fly fishing and, for those eager fishermen and fisherwomen there are boats for hire in the marina.

The oldest monastic settlement in Ireland, on Holy Island, is a short 10 min. boat ride away and well worth a visit. For those who do not favour getting there themselves there are regular boat trips available from the marina which is a short distance from the house.

Mountshannon is home, quite famously, to the White Tailed Eagle. With luck the birds can be viewed from the specially constructed 'hide'. Something to be seen in Mountshannon only.

Within 15 min drive you have East Clare Golf Club, ideal for golfing enthusiasts, and for the less enthusiastic there is fun to be had at the 9-hole pitch and put course which is even closer to the village.

The house is newly built, very comfortable, large rooms, well lit inside and out, and has 'wrap-around' deck to enjoy outdoor living.

Wildlife abounds in the fields surrounding the house and gardens, we have had visits from some deer lately, have spied hawks and many other species of the feathered kind, not to mention the odd rabbit or hedgehog. None of the above can be guaranteed, however, they have been seen!!

This is an ideal base for touring the South West of Ireland, 60 mins will get you to Galway, or to the sandy beaches of Lahinch, Spanish Point and many more. Limerick city is approx. 40 mins and the journey takes you through the charming towns of Killaloe and Ballina, well worth a visit. I could wax lyrical on all that is to be seen but the best way is to come and see for yourself!!!

Co Clare has approx 100 miles of coast, part of the wonderful Wild Atlantic Way. It is just in excess of an hour's drive from Mountshannon.

The house is approx. 45 mins. from Shannon Airport and there are several flights to and from London daily from Shannon.

There are also several flights direct from the U.S.to Shannon and, if you are beginning to organise your vacation and have not yet booked your travel arrangements we would recommend flying to Shannon Airport, life is much slower there than the hectic pace in Dublin yet it has all the amenities you could wish for.

This is an ideal destination for anyone seeking to avoid the hustle and bustle of the busier Irish resorts and escape to a more secluded region where tradition and warm hospitality are a way of life.
