Self-Catering Reviews

Safe to say Moriah House was fantastic.. We had a brilliant holiday in a very special place. We were apprehensive about car parking after reading previous reviews but we pulled up outside to unload etc and parked in garage provided. No problem. Streets around Harlech are tight but as long as you’re a competent driver it’s no problem. And it adds to the uniqueness of the holiday. The accommodation itself is just lovely. We felt at home as soon as we arrived. And that view of the sea is something I’ll never forget. Everything you’d need is provided for a lovely holiday. Only one thing would’ve made life slightly easier! If the gate were further forward to keep the dogs enclosed while sitting on the gorgeous decking to prevent them wandering around the graveyard. All in all one of the best holidays we’ve had. Harlech has always been my favourite place. Now even more so thanks to Moriah House ❤️

Have just returned from a week here. Found it to be very comfortable. Excellent wifi and a good choice of tv channels. The kitchen was well equipped with scales, decent knives; good quality pans and appliances. I did wonder why utensils were all metal when the frying pans were non stick? This is a spacious holiday home. The beds were comfortable and I thought pillows and duvets were good quality. The fire was great for when it was a little chilly at night. Plenty of hot water but the shower wasn't that great. Lovely views. Limited outdoor space but the decking area was very nice. Once we worked out where the garage was it was fine -we had a Qashqai. It is about 20 metres from property. The lock didn't work though so we had to put a stone in front to stop the doors blowing open. My only criticisms would be that it was a bit dusty - unfortunate given deep cleaning was supposed to happen because of Covid; the instructions for putting bins out were a bit contradictory - one clear messsage maybe. The biggest downside was the smell of damp. I had to buy a perfumed candle to mask it. If you opened the kitchen cupboards the smell really hit you. And there was at least one resident slug But location is great. The fish and chip shop is good. The premier shop on Beach Road was very good. The jury is out on the Tandoori restaurant - food not bad but service dire

We thought the owner should know that he has been let down by his cleaning company, we arrived and found the cottage in a pretty grubby state, in these days of increased cleaning regimes we thought it best he knew.. Dirty plates on display, cutlery left in drawers also dirty, work services not wiped down, dirty laundry left int he washing machine (we left that outside). First night we was there we had to quickly de-frost the fridge as the door did not shut properly. One of the storage heaters does not work, (by the far corner near the tv). We cleaned up ourselves and had a great time as the spot is wonderful.

Beautiful cottage.. Spacious and well provisioned as well as centrally located in Harlech. Everything went like clock work, no issues at all (except our vehicle was too tall for the garage). Would highly recommend

The cottage was really well equipped and very comfortable.. A truly brilliant conversion. We loved it. The owner was easy to contact and very helpful. It is advertised as dog friendly - which the cottage absolutely it is - but on entering the cottage there is a notice stating please do not allow your dog to run or toilet in the 'garden' (graveyard) as there has been complaints of a lack of respect. There is no outside place at the cottage for a dog. We feel that this should be made very clear in the advertising so that visitors can make an informed choice when booking. Our dog is an old boy now and having to walk him up to the picnic area at the top of the town each morning was not ideal. Generally about Harlech. Two very good restaurants, great tea rooms & ice cream parlour. Shop however is a SPAR with limited stock and only accepts cash. It is a really nice place to stay as a base to explore the surrounding area.

The outdoors was disappointing from the picture you published as in it was very overgrown with weeds and nettles and was a complete mess.. Inside the only downfall was a lot of dust and cobwebs.

Great place to stay.. Very spacious with great views of both the bay and castle. Don’t let the gravestones put you off!

The garage was hard to find to park car - clearer signage would help.. aside from that, cottage was just perfect

Really enjoyed the holiday and would return.. The owner helpful when we reported 1 or 2 issues- came over to sort them. Comfortable, spacious and easy to live in. Even better if - kitchen crockery needs checking- a few cereal bowls needed, and could have been cleaner- under the beds etc.

Pros ..Wonderful accommodation, very spacious, fabulous views . Would definitely stay again we had a great week Cons.. We needed to have the log burner lit for a comfortable warmth, storage heaters not warm enough. Lots and lots of hot water but shower not very powerful and towel rail didn't work. Feb 2018

Harlech is so central to so many things to do and places to go it is an ideal base for a very good holiday

The house was incredibly spacious with views of the sea, feeling luxurious, but obviously dog/ seaside / child friendly with hard wearing carpets.. The really wet afternoon we lit the woodburner and it was lovely in there. My son clocked up 4 Longshanks castle visits- Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris, and of course, Harlech. Loved the beach- some stunning sunsets over the sea, and those mountains fill me up...

A beautiful cottage with gorgeous views.. It was exceptionally clean and the wood burning stove made it really cost on the cooler evenings. The instructions on getting there were out of date and need looking at. We called the owner but he didn't answer so we asked in a local shop. Also done of the informational material was also out of date

Fell in love with this cottage just looking at the photos when I booked it. I hoped it would live up to my expectations. On entering the property, with my partner, our daughter's age 7&9, and our dog, we were all amazed and lost for words! It was beautiful! Far more to offer inside than we had imagined. Lovely nautical theme running through and a good mixture of old and new interior features and furnishings. This property changes with the weather. On sunny days, it feels spacious and bright. The light pours through the large windows. In dull days, it feels snug and cosy in its dim light, especially with the fire lit. More than adequately kitted out kitchen. Inside, the living areas were nice and clean. This is a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding areas. We look forward to booking again. A couple of things for owner to address or consider though. None of these are written as a negative, just as areas that could improve someone's stay. As a dog owner, it would be nice, if possible, to have a small gate at the rear of the property. This would allow the door to outside to be open without worrying about the dog escaping. (We did make use of the fire guard as a tempory barrier!) My 9 year old scalded her back quite badly in the shower when the kitchen tap was turned on. ( warning for other guests) I had to remove one of the bed protectors in daughters room due to an unsightly stain on it. Lastly, a quick hoover under/behind beds needed. Despite this, and the lack of parking, (had to carry all our bits down the hill, but we were aware of this on booking) we had the most amazing stay! Thank you.

Our stay at Moriah House was exceptional.. As other posts, the photos do not do it justice. Never had any trouble parking o/s the property, however, we were aware of this pre booking, so that was a bonus. Moriah House was spacious, catered for everything possible in the kitchen & all contents seemed to be good quality. Never had any problems locating the property. The owner had supplied lots of items to use for a proper seaside holiday, cricket bats, buckets & spades, so thoughtful. Due to the hot weather, most of the evenings we spent out on the decking area watching the spectacular sunsets and the view across the sea that changed constantly. This property is quirky, one of a kind, every room is large & it's so quiet here too. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

This is a charming, comfortable and clean place to stay - we were surprised at how spacious it is and felt at home from the moment we arrived.. We had a wonderful week exploring the surrounding area and it is in an ideal location for travelling around mid and north Wales. Husband climbed Snowdon and did ZipWorld while we were there - highly recommended if you are feeling adventurous! We also visited Llandudno, Porthmadog, Criccieth, Rhyl to name but a few - the Welsh Mountain Zoo is also worth a visit as is Harlech Castle which is just a short walk away from the accommodation. Harlech itself is very quiet in the evening but there are a few places to eat out within walking distance - we recommend The Victoria Inn in nearby Llanbedr though - great food and lovely beer garden. The cottage is well equipped and the owner has taken the time to give plenty of instructions and guidance on where things are and how to operate them. The one thing we felt was missing from both the website description and the 'Welcome Pack' at the cottage was information on parking. We think this may have been left off the description so as not to put people off but it would have been more helpful to know what to expect rather than having to spend time figuring out where to park. The cottage is located on a steep, narrow hill where parking is very restricted - we managed to park there when we arrived and when we departed so we were able to unload/load bags into the car but the rest of the time we moved the car between the nearby short stay car park (up to 3 hours) and the main road where you can park for free between 6pm and 9am (2 hr restriction at other times). There is a long stay car park just up the hill from the short stay where we could have left our car for 24 hours at a time but this was £7.50 per 24 hrs and it wasn't worth it as we were often out and about during the day. Please, please don't let this put you off - it was no hassle to us but would have been nice to have been given more info on this that's all. This is wonderful place to stay - great views from the graveyard and small patio area of the sea, the castle and the mountains - we saw some beautiful sunsets! We would definitely consider re-booking as we fell in love with the place and the local area - thank you for a super holiday....!

The accommodation was spacious.. The views are great but yu must stand on tiptoe to see them from inside the chapel due to window height. This made the accommodation feel enclosed despite the space. Clean throughout. Lots of extra homely touches some nicer than others. I.e tea and coffee supplied but the coffee pods didn't fit the machine and caused a huge mess when tried to use. Did smell like wet dog in carpeted areas. Beds ultra comfy esp the 4 poster. Bathroom cold and shower poor with water light. Heaters are overnight storage heaters. Wood left for fire in lounge for one night. Outside seated area nice in good weather. No parking. Busybody neighbour felt like she needed to advise a lot. Lover Harlech beach and town. Very hilly and lots of walking. Not the best for young families and disabled. OWNER RESPONSE: thank you for your comments which are appreciated. The coffee pods have been checked and were the correct ones. I am sorry if you found there to be a smell from the carpets - this had not been noticed by the cleaners but will be monitored. The other issues will also be checked and addressed. We hope you enjoyed your stay overall.

Moriah House was a magical place to stay for a unique and peaceful getaway in Harlech.. It was like a home away from home and had absolutely everything needed and more. The house is bigger than expected from the pictures. It is very unique and has many beautiful features. The view of the sea from the house is breathtaking and a gorgeous sight first thing in the morning. The location is ideal for climbing mount Snowdon, a 45 minute drive away through picturesque landscape. Really hope to get the chance to come back and stay in the future.
