Millstone is set on a working farm close to the village of Staindrop in Teesdale, just five miles from Barnard Castle. The cottage has one family bedroom with an ensuite and a sauna, one double room and one twin as well as a family bathroom (with a spa bath) which makes it suitable for seven people. Also in the cottage is an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen, a dining area and a sitting room. Outside the cottage is off road parking for two cars, a sheltered shared front courtyard with furniture and a designated play area for children (adult supervision required). Ideal for exploring the northern Dales, Millstone is sure to appeal to the whole family.

Area
Closely associated with the fortunes of nearby Raby Castle, the village of Staindrop is a pretty holiday spot for anyone looking to spend time in Teesdale. Open to the public, the castle itself is one of the most spectacular in England. Extended and adapted over the years, the construction was originally medieval, boasting a walled garden and a 200-acre deer park. The village of Staindrop offers visitors a range of interesting shops, pubs and cafes, all of which are set round its long village green. For more diverse shopping opportunities, the popular market town of Barnard Castle is only five miles away, and provides a selection of shops and tea-rooms, in addition to it's namesake – the famous castle. The Teesdale countryside is also a draw, offering a huge number of routes for walkers and cyclists looking to explore the region.

We found ourselves alone in a 7 bed property due to Covid restrictions and thought it might feel too big, but Millstone manages to combine grand with cosy.. We particularly enjoyed the open plan first floor living area with spectacular views.

Absolutely amazing place to stay, watching the farmers do their work (omg so hard in the weather we had to endure) and the farm animals/wildlife was great.. Lovely villages nearby were so quirky and took you back to lifestyles we are losing due to larger shopping facilties that produce mass foods that are nothing compared to the butchers and smaller local produce producers.

The cottage was perfect for a large family and toasty hot.. In fact, so warm that we turned off the central heating - all week. Fabulous location next to a working farm but no noise at all. Great location for a trip to the Metro Centre at Newcastle and we loved Barnard castle (couple of miles away) which has lots of boutique style shops, a Morrisons and a small Salisburys. A total bargain holiday, with a lovely bottle of prosecco in the fridge and included use of a sauna and spa bath. I think we may come back here - we liked it that much. Thanks.

Good facilities spacious and lovely play area for children.. Location is superb and lots of things to do in the area for children of all ages.We would have liked to have had an out door table to go with the chairs as the weather was very hot. The accommodation was also too hot upstairs as only two small windows which we had to keep open day and night.Unfortunately the smell from the cowsheds-which are directly behind the cottage was overwhelming and the cows were very vocal on several nights which kept us awake, not good when you are driving especially with two small children. Perhaps this is a one off due to weather but it appears that the cows are housed in the sheds all the time and it would be good to warn potential hirers. I live in the country side so it is not a complaint from a townie

Although location was a bit more remote than first expected.The facilities were ideal for our needs plenty room for 5 adults 2 children and a baby. Kids were all impressed with the climbing frame and all the toys provided. Loved the spacious living area.

Excellent location and facilities.. We have two young boys, aged 2 and 7, so the play facilities were perfect for them. Day trips out to the various ruined castles and the abbey gave them plenty of fresh air and adventure. The accommodation was spacious and allowed the whole extended family to get together of an evening.

Millstone was a spacious property which was a good distance to tourist attractions.. There was a luxurious jacuzzi bath and sauna which gave the adults a little added relaxation and the outdoor play area was brilliant.. We would definitely go back.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay.. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The property was of a high standard, clean, very well furnished and equipped. Our toddler enjoyed it the most. Very spacious. Lovely setting, very laid back and close to High Force and Barnard Castle. A great base, close to Teeside for us so the journey, was not arduous at all. Great spa bath and sauna and ample parking. We relaxed a lot and were made very welcome.

We had a very warm welcome and early check in. There were two boxes of age appropriate toys for our baby and superb level of equipment through out. The en-suite sauna was definitely an added treat for me!! Lovely out door play equipment for the children and high level of comfort and thoughtfulness in everything. Would look to come and stay again and have recommended it already. The added bonus of being in a Tesco delivering are made this a really easy and relaxing holiday. The beautiful market Town of Barnard Castle is only 10 mins drive away, easy access to Darlington, and some fantastic scenery on your door step!

very nice owner great cottage, and great situation. very well equipt, loved the dish washer and sauna. the children loved playing in the wonderful adventure garden, Great location hard to choose what we liked most, but adored Barnard Castle a big hit with my 2 young grandsons.Plenty of places to explore and good places to eat, so plan to go back on the downside, felt the shower could have been cleaner but soon sorted that. some wonderful memories, thank you.

Very warm, comfortable large property which is well equipped. Since its initial renovation some parts of the property are beginning to look tired and in need of some TLC. A good spruce up and some minor maintenance work would do the trick. We enjoyed our stay. Very friendly owners.

The kids loved the working farm and the ponies.. The cottage owners were the nicest family we have ever met. The sleepy village of Cleatlam is so relaxing and peaceful but really close to great days out. All in all an excellent cottage and excellent holiday.

The property had a really spacious feel to it and was very well kept. The kitchen was very well equipped for a holiday cottage with pretty much all the equipment we have at home. The spa bath and sauna were great! Our children enjoyed playing football and basketball in the back yard and there was a good play area for younger children at the front.

The owner's made us feel welcome,the cottage and it's ameneties were explained very well on arrival at the cottage. The cotage had billiant view's across the local countryside from the lounge,the whole cottage we found to be spacious and well looked after. It was great to come back after long walk's with our dog and relax in the cottage's sauna and spa bath just luxury!

Home from home! There is no need to take any thing other than yourselves. Every little thing is catered for. To be honest you dont need to move from the property but if you do strongly recommend a trip to High Force waterfall just a couple of miles down the road. Our hosts were the most helpful we have ever met after several years of staying in holiday cottages.

The views were splendid.The widescreen TV was a plus and the whirlpool bath...well...older bones and muscles really appreciated it! I loved the upside down layout of the house, especially as the snow drifting over the hills and dales was superbly visible from the huge window, whilst warm in the central heating! I would love to go there again and try a different season.
