The cottage is in a wonderfully peaceful spot, with lovely views across fields to Mell Fell. A nearby footpath crosses a couple of fields to the pub and bus stop in the centre of the village. Penruddock is about 4 miles from the southern end of Ullswater, but more driving is involved to reach the heart of the Lake District and the high fells. However, the lanes around Penruddock are quiet and peaceful, away from the crowds, and it is well located for less frequented walks. We made good use of the excellent bus service to Penrith and to Keswick and beyond, (free for us now we have reached 60!)
The cottage is well equipped and furnished, with a new kitchen, including dishwasher, and large fridge-freezer. TV reception is limited, due to the location. Bedrooms smallish, but very comfortable, with great views. The bathroom is downstairs, through the kitchen. We were there for a fortnight, and would have appreciated a washing machine (there is one, not yet plumbed in). However overall we loved the cottage, felt very at home, thought it was good value, and would like to return.
