Self-Catering Reviews

August 2020
A delightful holiday cottage that was very well equipped, other than a hand towel for the kitchen and hand-wash in the bathroom everything else was provided.. There were distant views of the lake from the enclosed garden, it was lovely weather on a couple of days, so had breakfast outside and it was delightful watching the birds on the feeders. The cottage was ideally situated for exploring, the pretty village of Coniston is within walking distance, as is the lake. Ambleside, Kendal, Ulverston and Windermere are within easy reach by car, Hawkshead is also worth a visit, as is Tarn Hows, try and park in the Glen Mary carpark on the A593 and take in the sites of the waterfalls before you get to the beautiful lake. Climbing The Old Man of Coniston was a definite highlight, it was tough going in places and unfortunately it was very cloudy, so no views from the top, but lots to photo on the way up. All in all a lovely cottage that I would definitely recommend.

The cottage is beautifully situated, with Coniston Water partially visible from the cottage.. Behind the cottage is a large field and it had a herd of cows and calves in it. In the evening they tended to be further up the field but in the morning right outside our window. We found that there was a very convenient footpath into Coniston village along a disused railway line.

The holiday home was perfect and ideally suited for a short walk into Coniston or for walks off the doorstep without need for using the car.. The home itself kitted out very well, super clean and very cozy. Already thinking of booking again

Very lovely location and everything was comfortable and convenient.. Not having WiFi was a bit of a problem for longer stays as these devices need updating which requires a WiFi connection overnight where they can be plugged in. Not sure the towel heater is working but having a dish and clothes and washer/dryer was wonderful. I loved the privacy and quiet!

The surrounding scenery and the garden was lovely.. The accommodation was lovely and clean. We were disappointed with the bed, which was very hard and uncomfortable. There were no hooks behind the bedroom door to hang dressing gowns. And as we are in our 60's we found getting out of the bath after a shower very slippy, no rubber mat in the bath and no grab handle to help.

This was our second visit to this apartment in Coniston.. The apartment is in a stunning location with views over the lake. We particularly enjoyed watching the numerous birds including woodpeckers that visited the feeders each day. The apartment is clean and comfortable and has everything that you need for a great stay.

The joy of waking up in the morning to birds and sheep when its usually road traffic and trains was wonderful.. The cottage was so well equipped and the location was fantastic for visiting the rest of the lake district. We loved sitting in the garden in the early evening watching a multitude of birds feeding. This was a perfect week for us.

I think the cottage was great - my only criticism is the bed being very small and for us for this reason it felt a bit uncomfortable.. But loved the cottage decor and kitchen/bathroom had absolutely everything you needed. The garden is a real bonus- beautiful and with views of the lake. Paths to Coniston from the property not walkable due to accessibility (if you either were wheelchair user or have a pram it’s a no no)- so a point could be made but it doesn’t claim to be a family property so i suppose it’s up to us to ask those questions next time. Overall I would definitely recommend it to a couple wanting a stay in the lakes.

Lovely accommodation in a quiet part of the Lake District.. Everything was spotlessly clean and the garden with its wild life was an added bonus. Lots of walks within easy walking reach of the accommodation and I never used the car once during the holiday.

Cottage was brilliant great view and location for walks excellent.. Food shopping in Coniston is very limited but local pub grub is excellent

I realise that it is self catering but all that was supplied was a few dishwasher tablets and two cheap toilet rolls.. No welcome pack, we have always had one but here not even a pint of milk. There was no hand wash in the bathroom and no bleach for the toilet. There is a washing machine but not even a couple of tablets left for that. A bit of a let down after two jolly good bed and breakfasts and a week in a brilliant apartment in Pittenweem. The cottage itself is lovely and the little garden is perfect and if you want to pack your kitchen sink this is for you.

Second visit to this property.. If you like peace & quiet in a rural location, enjoy the great outdoors with walks from the doorstep, then this is a property for you. Clean, modern, well equiped & a comfortable home from home. The wildlife in the garden is very entertaining.

Lovely well equipped one bedroom apartment. Between Coniston and Torver overlooking the lake. Very nice to have sheep grazing in adjoining field and an abundance of lovely garden birds feeding on bird feeder and occasional rabbit visitor. Well provided for cottage with washing machine and dishwasher, plus TV with freeview and DVD player. Nice selection of DVD's, plus various guides and maps for locality. Bed very comfortable. Will definitely book again.

Great location for exploring the Lake District, easy to get to most areas.. Cottage had many extras which were appreciated EG dishwasher tablets, a simple thing you would not think to bring along. Thank You

As above all fine, maybe worth while erecting a mirror at the road end, as exiting from the cottage lane onto the road is on a blind corner, an accident waiting to happen possibly..

We enjoyed our week in Coniston and found the property very comfortable.. My criticism would be the lack of extra toilet roll and lack of washing powder. I was unwell and needed both those items. One worrying thing in the bedroom was an electric light over the bed. It isn't working now but is presumably a decoration. Several times,as I sat up in bed the light jabbed me on the temple or ear. I thought it could have been dangerous for someone older than me or a person with limited movement. Apart from that the flat was very nice, and the birds in the garden were just wonderful for two bird enthusiasts ! Stella

The flat was ideal for two, very comfortable and clean with a picture window onto the small garden, and onward to Coniston Water.. The location was ideal for us - a footpath starts ten yards down the road leading to the pub (10 minutes), the village (a further 5 - 10 minutes) and the top of the Old Man of Coniston hill (a couple of hours unless you are a fell runner - steep climb). Another footpath takes you to Torver (more pubs and a common), or down to Coniston Water and across to Tam Hows. We had a great week here.

We liked the views all around the accommodation and the peacefulness of it all. The cottage was very comfortable and we certainly want to come back again.
April 2016
We had a lovely stay last week in this cottage. It was very clean with all the necessities you needed. comfy bed although a little squeaky , warm as toast. The view across the valley was good but the best view were the little blue tits and the resident woodpecker just out side the patio doors. So many of then flying around all day. The only crit was that we could only stay 5 night and even though we are not in high season we had to pay for the full week which would stop us using it again next year . Sykes gave a quote for a shorter period but when we came to book they said it was a booking error and we had to pay the full price. After looking at so many properties we couldn't be bothered to start looking again. But as far as the accommodation, garden and cleanliness it couldn't be faulted.
