Padstow is a real gem of a town and one of Cornwall’s most popular, never failing to impress with its historic links to fishing, most evident in the working harbour that the town surrounds. You can sit and watch the boats come and go and even buy some fish for your supper back at Little Grenville.

The narrow lanes of the town, full of quaint shops cafes and galleries, all gravitate towards the wonderful little harbour full of colourful fishing boats. The pubs are plentiful and popular with locals and visitors who mingle on the quayside with a pint and a pasty.

Padstow is home to the foodie empire of TV Chef Rick Stein and his many cafés from the seafood restaurant and the cookery school to a wonderful chippy at the end of the Camel Trail.

The Camel Trail is a flat, multi-use, off-road trail that hugs the shoreline of the Camel River Estuary as it flows inland to the market town of Wadebridge. Both towns have plenty of bike hire outlets so you can ride from Wadebridge and have fish and chips on the quayside before riding back, a great day out.

Padstow also has a ferry that crosses the mouth of the estuary to Rock, a stunning stretch of sand with boats dotted along the shoreline where you can sail, windsurf or paddle board, a great way to explore the waters.

From Rock you can walk to Daymer Bay, a spectacular beach that never fails to impress, then onward to Polzeath along the coastal path. Golf courses, horse riding, surfing, sailing, spas and shopping are all on offer in this beautiful part of Cornwall. Beach 1 mile. Shop ¼ mile, pub and restaurant ¾ mile.
