One of the best cottages we have stayed in.. Very clean and comfortable and no WiFi and poor mobile phone reception meant you could really relax .

We were very disappointed to fine that that there was no WiFi facility provided so we could not use our Tablet.. The TV set with DVD/CD playing facilities had been rep[lace with a new TV without these facilities. Glaisdale is split into two distinct parts and the pub was not in the part where we were staying. The road between the two parts is unlit, has no paving, with an unrestricted speed limit, so walking to the pub was not a reasonable proposition particularly after dark

The barn has been converted beautifully and is maintained to a very high standard.. Unlike some properties this one is ideal for 4 adults whilst still being equally suited to a family of 4. The main living airy is spacious, light and airy. Both bedrooms are well laid out and have ample, practical storage. Having 2 bathrooms makes it perfect! If planning another holiday in this beautiful part of Yorkshire we would definitely return.

This is an excellent location for a walking holiday; within five minutes walk from the property there is a choice of footpaths, and the nearby countryside varies from upper moorland to riverside walks.. Moreover, the coast is easily accessible with Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Runswick Bay to choose from.

A lovely stay.. The accommodation is warm and cosy with everything you need. All appliances work perfectly and everywhere tastefully furnished whilst maintaining a homely feel. The views at the rear of the barn are beautiful and there are lovely country walks to take from the barn. The owner is extremely friendly helpful, should you need to contact her.

We di not book this holiday but was transferred there by Sykes.. On first arriving the outside was a bit of a disappointment but once in side WOW. The owner had gone out of their way to get it ready at short notice, and this was very much appreciated. The cottage was perfect inside and the addition of ornaments and a beautiful mirror in the living room added to the whole effect. We enjoyed staying there and the company of a cat that made friends with us on arrival. It disappeared each night but was back in the morning.

Lovely location shame about the restricted view, the locals were very friendly and helpful.. Would have been good to have table and chairs where there was a good view across valley. Lots of good walks, close to the coast. Wonderful fish and chip in Whitby at the Magpie.

February 2018
Cottage was beautiful and very well done throughout nice and cosy love the underfloor heating and great views with plenty of parking.. Hosts left us a lovely bottle of white wine which was a nice touch. Having a downstairs bedroom was great for my grandma. The only two little criticisms would be that it has no WiFi and as I run a business if I hadn’t had good internet package on my phone it could of been an issue, secondly there is a radiator in top bedroom but had no idea how to get it to turn on so was little on the chilly side with it been a really cold week in Feb would of been nice to have the option to heat that room. These are only small issues overall we loved the cottage and will certainly book again, fantastic place with lots to do only a short drive away

Clean, well-appointed barn conversion on the edge of Glaisdale village with private off-road parking. All essentials provided. TV had satellite channels, which was useful, however mobile phone reception in the area is variable. A good base for touring the coast and moors. Be aware if exploring the local attractions on foot that the country roads do not always have footpaths. Well planned layout with spacious living area and separate bathroom attached to each bedroom.

Just back from a five night stay at Lanes Barn. We had to search for a property with bedroom and toilet on the ground floor (88 year old mum). There were two steps but a rail made them OK . The place has been finished to a high standard, very clean and hey a dish washer. No washing up for me. Plenty of interest in the field at the back, sheep, two miniature pigs, small horse, hens and ducks. The sheep looked ready to lamb unfortunately not before we left. Perfect spot for exploring the North Yorkshire moors and coast. Would love to go again soon.

Lovely little cottage on the edge of Glaisdale. Absolutely spotless and very comfortable. 10 miles from Whitby, the village is on the Pickering to Whitby railway line, though the station is at the other end of the village, like the pub, and a bit of a hike away; a small general store and a butcher are slightly closer, but still a fair walk away and all uphill on the way back. Glaisdale is tucked away in the winding, hilly roads leading to the moors and every time you go anywhere you end up on little roads with fabulous views, and in the middle of great walking country. Handy for Whitby, Scarborough, Pickering, beautiful Riveaulx Abbey, Hutton le Hole, Flamborough Head, and any number of pretty little villages. Close enough to visit York and Harrogate too. Don't miss Saltburn if you want a sandy beach with somewhere to eat but a minimum of expensive commercial distractions. There's a great park there too with a little train and excellent kids' play areas. My only small niggle was that the views from the garden and living room were limited because of some sort of animal shelter that formed the back wall of the garden. On the plus side there were sheep, pigs, hens and ducks in the field at the back which would amuse kids. All in all a near perfect place to stay if you want peace and quiet within easy reach of plenty of interesting places.

As soon as we arrived at the barn we knew we'd made the right choice of accomodation. Everything was of a very high standard, very well appointed, beautifully furnished and we felt at home very quickely. The village shop and butchers are within 10 minutes walk of the barn and we were able to buy all our food from there, so no need to travel to a supermarket. I would recommend the butchers, the meat and pies were excellent. We were made very welcome. Although the trains running through the Esk Valley were infrequent, we were still able to make use of them travelling one way and walking back to Glaisdale stopping off at a pub or two en route. The Esk Valley is beautiful and well worth exploring rather than just visiting the usual tourist spots on the Moors.

My wife and i wanted a short 3 night weekend break for my 63rd Birthday in North Yorkshire. We found this 2 bed Barn conversion on line and to date this is the best cottage we have stayed in. It was immaculte, warm, cosy, with off road private parking, situated on the moors with beautiful views and walks. The Barn had all mod cons even underfloor heating everything was there no need to take anything (except food) Whitby is 10 miles about a 20 mins drive. We would fully recommend the Barn and area, there are a few local pubs situated a mile away so its a good uphill walk. If you like peace and quiet with good walks and views with Whitby nearby then give this a try, in our opinion you won`t be disapointed.

The rental is a barn that has been converted to a very high standard, because there are 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms effectively both bedrooms are en-suite, the views to the rear over the esk valley are lovely. The location makes it a good base for touring, you can drive on to the moors in a few minutes and reach Whitby in about 20, the only minor drawback is that it is a stiff 25 minute walk uphill from the nearest pub (which is very nice).
