Lakeside Cottage description

Holiday home
Lakeside Cottage is a superb detached property close to the waters of Lake Windermere, a mile and a half from Newby Bridge. The cottage has two king-size double rooms, a twin room and a room with bunks. There is a family bathroom on the first floor, and a wet room on the ground floor, along with a kitchen with dining area, and a sitting room with sofa bed and woodburner. The property offers wonderful views from many windows, and spacious grounds with a private hot tub, patio and furniture, as well as ample off road parking and storage for bikes and boats. Lakeside Cottage makes a wonderful base for enjoying the attractions around Lake Windermere and beyond.

A great way to see the wonderful local scenery is on the famous Furness Railway which runs between Haverthwaite and Newby Bridge, or take a look at the Aquarium of the Lakes which uses naturally themed habitats to bring the history of the Lakes vividly to life. Lake Windermere itself offers some magnificent views, as do the surrounding fells and the picturesque village of Hawkshead - a place that inspired such internationally well known authors as William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

The cottage was in a lovely place, not too far away from civilisation, but set in a lovely quiet place.. Loads of storage, plenty parking and felt just like home. Couple of nice pubs within walking distance, and we even caught the boat upto boweness, which was fab.kids lived the hot tub, and plenty open space for kids to run about. Huge kitchen, and WiFi and sky TV. Only one downside, there was 9 in our group, and unfortunately there is only space for 8 people, 1 bunk bed, 2 single beds and 2 double beds. Our youngest, who is 10, soon realised he did not have his own bed and wondered where he would be sleeping, and ended up sleeping in between me and his mam, which was a little disappointing, as it does say sleeps 10 on the sykes website, but does say sleeeps 8 on the gate to the cottage. Other than the sleeping arrangements, a great stay a lakeside cottage.

For over £2000 for the week, the cottage falls below expected standards for cleanliness and facilities! There is no canopy over the hot- tub as shown in your photograph, and the 'patio' seating area is very neglected, with the BBQ extremely rusty, ash-filled and unfit for purpose. Internally the microwave had not been cleaned, and some of the pans were in an unpleasant state. There were cobwebs and dead flies in window sills, and 2 of the green tub chairs were damaged, as was one of the kitchen chairs, and the large table wobbled! You wouldn't want to drop something and have cause to look under the beds! The heating was problematic, as some radiators could not be turned on, and others off! The second double bedroom is less spacious than shown, as bunk beds have been added. Excellent was the hot tub and water pressure. The living areas are spacious and the location is very good. Ian was very pleasant on the phone and on arrival.

Great location, with a very easy walk to several attractions, yet surrounded by woodland and birdsong and beautifully quiet.. A spacious house with good bathrooms, and good WiFi, that suited our family group well. Meet and greet went smoothly. Outside we loved the hot tub, but the surrounding patio area was scruffy with an unusable BBQ and nowhere pleasant to sit. There was ample parking but the garden generally was somewhat neglected. A bit of time spent upgrading some kitchen utensils and mending several broken chairs would be well spent. Our biggest problem was the heating, which we were told was impossible to regulate downstairs and made the house uncomfortably hot throughout. With a bit of input spent sorting these issues out, this would be a great house to which we might otherwise have returned.

It's a fantastic cottage, everything that it said on the website, we met Ian for the key handover and he was able to give us lots of advice on where to go for food and drink and activities during the days we were there.. We had a fantastic few days and I will recommend it to all our friends. Many thanks

Cottage and setting was beautiful..

All went smoothly and had a great time.. The property was comfortable. However, some money needs to be spent on the property: loose floor tile (broken board?) in kitchen by fridge where there must have been a leak at sometime; a new lock is required on the front door (only lockable from one side) and perhaps some aspects of general decoration could be spruced up. We would still be happy to return to the same property at sometime, because overall we had a great time and the property was well located.

The house and facilities were absolutely fabulous, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and we couldn't have asked for a nicer, more attentive host.. Extremely well kept and well laid out house, more than equipped for cooking large group meals, lovely beds/bedding, plenty of room to park the cars. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a good base to explore the lakes.

Ive just stayed here with my husband, another couple and their 3 year old. The cottage was lovely and clean, extremely spacious and made an ideal base for our weeks holiday. The owner Ian was friendly and helpful and the cottage has loads of extras like an iron, hair dryers, open fire with starter pack, games, it's own swings, lots of parking and the large spacious hot tub. The location is great (only small down side is it's a bit remote and we could only find one takeaway that would deliver there). The leisure passes were an added bonus and the cottage is a stones throw from the boats over Bowness. Would recommend this place to anyone!

The house was perfectly idyllic but did not feel isolated. Beautiful views of the lake from several aspects of the cottage made for the perfect relaxation time away from the city. The photos on the website and promotional material for this property honestly do not do it justice. It was easy to find and close to local amenities. The owner of the property was a delight to liaise with. We're already planning a return visit and spreading the word to family and friends.
