Holiday home
The Roost is a wonderful, cosy first floor apartment in Hampshire, found in the grounds of the owners' cottage in the hamlet of East Tytherley. Set in the eaves, the property has one double bedroom with an en-suite shower room. There is also an open plan living space with a kitchenette, a dining area and a sitting area, while outside, there is off road parking for one car, a shared garden and bike storage. In a great setting, The Roost is a perfect romantic retreat for exploring Hampshire. Note: Apartment accessed via an external, open tread wooden staircase. Note: Owners run a small B&B business in their own cottage nearby. Note: Babes-in-arms only. Please note: no parties of workers accepted. Bookings must fall between a Friday and Friday only due to cleaning availability

The hamlet of East Tytherley in Hampshire is situated on the edge of the beautiful Test Valley. Test Valley passes many historic churches, country houses and pretty villages and follows the River Test’s course; a chalk fishing stream. Close by is the market town of Romsey and both Winchester and Salisbury are within driving distance.

Me my partner and 8 month old had the best holiday, so much to see and do, the roost was only a short drive from everywhere, a perfect location, the cottage was clean and fresh and provided everything you needed, a beautiful big garden and a park 2 minutes down the road, a lovely welcome greeted with biscuits and wine.. We will definitely be returning, thank you for a perfect stay

Although seemingly in the middle of the countryside, it was so easy to access all our activities such as golf, walking, cycling, National Trust visits also various eateries.. Our hosts were both friendly and very helpful. The garden was peaceful and relaxing, and the accommodation was clean, comfortable and functioned well ( wooden steps up might be challenging to some). Very enjoyable in this lovely part of England.

A charming little snug ideally located between Winchester and Salisbury so a great base, lots of national trust in the area and walking.. The roost was a nice size for two definitely not small, very comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean .

The Roost was very welcoming in as much as it was clean, comfortable and in a gorgeous, quiet location.. A bottle of wine and box of cookies was left for us which was a nice touch. It was compact and cosy but we did not have an issue with the size although I could see that others had commented on the fact that there was only one small sofa. This did not bother us. On the second and third morning, unfortunately there was no hot water in the shower. I am sure that if we had contacted the owner he would have resolved the problem. But the days were hot and we chose to have cold showers instead! But we did leave a note for him before we left so that he would be aware before the next guests. There were many great day trips in the area and all in all, we had a fantastic time.

The Roost was very comfortable, quiet and relaxing.. Steve was very friendly and helpful and the welcoming gift of wine and biscuits were a nice touch. Would recommend for anyone looking for peaceful surroundings and a handy position for visiting the New Forest and the Hampshire coast.

A wonderful country location with easy access to the New Forest and tourists favourite towns and villages.. All the sounds of the countryside, birds, sheep, pheasants, to greet you in the morning and beautiful wooded views, which we loved. An ideal position for visiting all the county attractions, most within a 40 minute drive away. The cottage was spotlessly clean with all facilities to make it home for the week. Everything worked fine and we found the shower was a very refreshing experience in the mornings. Although, you do have to ask the owners for use of the washing machine and iron/ironing board, which probably not an issue in nice weather. But if you are out all day, you`ll have to time or arrange this to suit I guess. We met the owners briefly and were very accommodating nonetheless. The cottage is compact, an ideal refuge for the evenings but we felt it needed a dining table otherwise it was eating on the sofa, which is small to be fair. But bearing in mind the price point of the cottage and floor space, it is good value and that is why the aforementioned is absent. The cottage is open plan with no door between bedroom and kitchen diner to separate them. Not a big issue, especially if used as a base but just observations through our previous cottaging preferences. Overall, it did not distract from our holiday experience and had a wonderful week in the New Forest.

This is a great place to use as a base for visiting nearby Salisbury, Winchester, the New Forest, Portsmouth, Chawton etc. We easily filled a week sightseeing and the Test Valley is beautiful. The apartment is immaculate and has everything you need in a kitchen if you don't want to eat in any of the local pubs. It's a real home from home. Lots of local information is provided and very useful OS maps are available to borrow. The mobile phone signal was hit and miss but a brief walk up the lane sorted this - not having a signal was actually quite nice! There is great WiFi though. The wine and biscuits on arrival were very welcome and greatly appreciated.

A lovely cottage perfect for a couple.. Steve and Paula were perfect hosts friendly but not intrusive and allowed us use of their wonderful garden . There is so much to see in the surrounding area we will be back. It was a wonderful way for my husband to celebrate his 50th.

The Roost is a very good cottage to stay in for many reasons.. The situation is lovely, with access to the owners' beautiful garden. It is close to Romsey and a bit further to Salisbury and Winchester. We found all we needed in the Roost. The bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was large with plenty of hot water on demand. The furnishings were of a high quality and the whole cottage was of a high standard. The owners were welcoming and helpful and we found a bottle of wine and packet of biscuits on arrival, a very nice touch. We would definitely recommend The Roost and hope to return in the future.

The cottage was lovely, the owner very friendly.. Two points for improvement. One is a couch that is too deep and not wide enough for two persons. A bigger couch and an extra comfortable chair is definitely needed in an other wise excellent cottage. The other point is, there are no cleaning utilities. No broom, vacuum cleaner, dustpan and brush, absolutely nothing. We felt bad having to leave without being able to clean the floor. ***owner response**** There are cleaning products and a dustpan and brush within the property. There is not a space for a broom or vacuum cleaner as we have no expectations of our outgoing guests to clean the property prior to leaving. Our cleaner comes in on each changeover day to ensure that the property is thoroughly cleaned for our next Holidaymaker. Thank you for your feedback on the sofa, we are looking to change this to a 3 seater moving forward

The standard of the property completely exceeded our expectations for the price we paid and the detail in which the owners had fitted out the accommodation has to be applauded - a real home from home from the moment we entered the property.
