Very friendly owners who made us and our dogs feel very welcome.. On arrival there was a small welcome pack which contained an absolutely brilliant chocolate cake and home made jam. The Holliday was a total chill out before heading back for a lockdown. The cottage was well furnished with antique furniture which axed to its charm Will defiantly go back again
Mr Storey, October 2020
Please check your electronic email system.. The emails were constantly saying no dogs when in fact the booking was with a dog. Other than that the farmhouse was great
Anderson, September 2020
Enjoyed some needed R&R during these difficult timeS, cottage was lovely and was exactly what we expected.. Owners were really nice and the welcome pack we received was an added bonus. We enjoyed a really chilled week and would definitely recommend Hornsbarrow Cottage, it had everything we required, very comfortable and welcoming.
Mrs Robson, September 2020
A very enjoyable holiday.. The cottage was very clean, well equipped, and very comfortable. We would be more than happy to rebook Hornsbarrow Farm.
Mr Hughes, August 2020
Hornsbarrow farmhouse is set in a fabulous location with excellent views.. The owners made us feel very welcome and the welcome pack that was left for us was a lovely gesture. Definitely would stay there again.
Mrs Fendley, August 2020
Really lovely cottage.. The owners were really welcoming and helpful, would recommend the cottage to anyone.
Miss Heidaripour, August 2020
Little touches like the home made cake and complimentary groceries were much appreciated.. The owners were very helpful and as a result our family Christmas celebrations At Hornsbarrow went wonderfully well. Thank you.
Miss Shepherd, December 2019
Our second visit to Hornsbarrow and once again we couldn’t fault it.. Gill met us on arrival with the key, nothing too much trouble for her so kind and friendly (once again Gill had made us a delicious chocolate cake, home-made bramble jelly, bread, butter, eggs, tea, milk etc such generous hosts) Excellent cottage, everything we needed, lovely and warm but we still lit the open fire and it added to the ambience
Miss Robinson, November 2019
A lovely cottage, clean and cosy.. Loads of beautiful autumn walks nearby. We had a really relaxing holiday here. The homemade cake and jam etc was a really appreciated welcome. Thank you
Another fabulous holiday at Hornsbarrow Farmhouse, perfect welcome pack too..
Mr Wickwar, June 2019
Beautiful, spacious accommodation with gorgeous views of the countryside.. Perfectly situated, close enough to town for convenience but far enough out of town for this house to be a quiet retreat.
We arrived very late in the evening, so it was great to wake up and find there was good quality bread, butter and home made jam.. ..and a cake!.beautiful spot, not far from the limestone pavement, which we had all to ourselves. Lovely open fire. Gorgeous lambs galore. The closest pub, is very good for food. .
This cottage was really lovely.. Just what we were hoping for. The owners provided many little things that were that extra mile. The kitchen had everything you might need for a short holiday. It rained most of the weekend and we were very content just to stay inside!
Lovely house great location for lakes and dales thoughtful welcome pack
The cottage was amazing, comfortable, warm and cosy.. Surrounded by countryside.
Excellent hosts, took time to meet and greet our party and left us a most appreciated welcome pack (including a delicious home-made chocolate cake).. Cottage was very clean and cosy and met all the needs of everyone in our party. Excellent for chilling and relaxing and loads of room made even better when we lit the open fire. We will definitely book again.
Very comfortable, spacious, quiet, close to Lakes, Fells and Dales.. Exceptionally good position for exploring the surrounding areas. Views from all windows were beautiful. Owners friendly and helpful.
Lovely cottage, the only point I would make is the hedging at the entrance could be cut back to show sign when driving past, as it is overgrown and covers the sign (hornsbarrow) over and we drove past a couple of times.. Everything else was just right thank yo
What a stunning place to stay .. The views are superb . The homemade cake and jam is a lovely touch , along with the fresh bread , milk and eggs. The only thing I would say is maybe consider investing in summer duvets. The ones on the beds were thick and heavy which in winter are great But made it uncomfortable in the hot weather . However would love to go back and do more exploring
This was our first time in this part of the country and what a find! Hornsbarrow is a brilliant cottage, very spacious and comfortable with outstanding views from the front. The owner was lovely, and gave us some easy directions for a beautiful walk up to Hardcastle Crags right from the front door!
There are some really interesting historical features inside, such as 17th century furniture and fittings, and lots of books, DVDs and guides to browse.
It was a great location for Kirkby Lonsdale (there is a great walk along the river from there) and further into the Dales as well - we did the Ingleton Waterfalls trail and Malham Cove from here.
We were also lucky to have a beautiful barn owl as a regular daytime(!) visitor, which perched on the fence outside.
Hornsbarrow is a wonderful cottage which served as a superb base for a family holiday.
Ideally located for visiting The Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales.. The “Welcome Pack” was appreciated.
We had a fabulous holiday.. The cottage was lovely. The facilities in the cottage were brilliant ,the owners have really thought of everything. The homemade cake and fresh bread left for us on our arrival was a lovely added touch, very thoughtful and kind of the owners. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
An amazing holiday home, hosts very welcoming and helpful, extras of chocolate cake, milk, eggs and butter much appreciated and delicious.. Accommodation very clean, comfortable and spacious with everything needed for a perfect holiday. Utility room was fantastic area for our two dogs. Magnificent views and lovely seating area to enjoy morning coffee. Ideally situated for attractions in the Dales and Lakes. We’ll definitely return and will be recommending to family and friends. To sum up in one word “Perfect”.
Peace and quiet, views are spectacular, easy access the lakes, plenty of amenities shops, pubs, resturants, welcoming hosts lovely welcome pack to help you settle in, all in all a truly great break..
Outstanding cottage and outstanding host.. Pictures do not do this cottage justice. Definitely will be back!
We would like to thank Gill and her Husband for a lovely clean well equipped holiday home.. We had a warm welcome and a fantastic welcome pack. Hornsbarrow was huge and it allowed us to have family and friends visit. It is also very dog friendly, we met their two Border Terriers who were lovely. I would recommend this Cottage to anyone.
Fantastic place to stay, very cosy and fantastic welcome pack..
Gils hospitality was amazing.. She made us a lovely cake. Her recommendations about the area were excellent
Little gifts of a Chocolate Cake, Milk, Eggs and home made Jam to welcome you, was a fantastic start, from the begin of our stay with wonderful views across the countryside to the lovely cottage.. Just watching the new born lambs running about the fields was a treat plus our Hosts were really helpful but not intrusive offering advice about walks to take the dogs on around Kirby Lonsdale, all-in-all a most enjoyable break and would definitely consider another break at this cottage.
Mr Blockley, March 2017

We enjoyed a lovely break , thank you Gill.
Mrs Williams, November 2016
Lovely area, plenty to do and see.. Cottage is really lovely and comfortable owners very helpful and did leave a very helpful welcome pack. Only drawback is that the property is on a very busy main road and entering or leaving the property was tricky.
Mrs Ditchfield, October 2016
Fantastic spacious cottage in a picturesque setting to access the Lakes and Dales
A wonderful property which was clean, comfortable and well-equipped for all eventualities.
Mrs Cobb, September 2016

There are too many good comments to make but here is a summary; everything was absolutely wonderful, the beds and bedding were a dream to sleep in and cleanliness was above average. The owners were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We couldn't fault Hornsbarrow at all and will definitely be returning if they can ever fit us in!

It was a home from home, it had plenty of room and you didn't think you were living on top of each other, and it was so comfortable. The owners couldn't be more helpful, they were very friendly. The location was superb, handy for the Dales and Lake District.

This is a brilliant cottage in a marvellous location so central for visiting Dales and the Lakes. We really cannot fault it,super welcome pack and spotlessly clean.10/10 for everything? By the way we had no issues with the WIFI anywhere in the property.
The cottage was homely, we had the log fire on which also made it cosy. The owners were very friendly and the surrounding areas were beautiful.

The cottage and location were lovely. Although next to a main road it was very quiet in the cottage and the fields around were so beautiful. It was a good location to get to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales and the local area was very dog friendly.

This cottage provided everything we needed to celebrate a ruby wedding and a 60th birthday as a family. Great location and excellent support from the owners.

This cottage provided everything we needed to celebrate a ruby wedding and a 60th birthday as a family.. Great location and excellent support from the owners.
Wonderful, spacious cosy house in a secluded location, although near the main road. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners who live in the adjoining property. They helped us and gave us advice when needed, but did not interfere at all! The house is dog (and cat!) friendly with an outer utility room where we could set up our own cage for the dog and keep all our muddy walking boots from messing up the house. The house is home from home, with everything you could want! It was a pleasure to cook and we enjoyed the open fire in the evenings. There are lots of walks nearby. The limestone pavement and crags are just fantastic and even though we went during the Easter week, it was not crowded at all, unlike the Lakes.
The only downside was that with 3 teenagers, we expected better wifi coverage than was actually possible. The wifi only works in a small corner of the house and is very slow indeed. This did not detract from the house overall though, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
We loved our time at Hornbarrow, which went far too quickly.
The owners were very welcoming, the cottage was very clean and had everything that was needed, fresh flowers and a cake was going the extra mile and having all the basics in the kitchen and bathroom made it home from home. Often when going away having the owners next door can put you off but we didn't really notice they were there and when we did see them they were very pleasant.
The owners are very welcoming, the cottage well equipped and very clean, location is perfect for visiting both the Lake District and Yorkshire dales and for the week was an absolute bargain, will definitely consider visiting again later in the year as still so many good walks local to the cottage.
