Clean and tidy and well maintained.. Beds were comfy. Nice bathroom. Only niggles inside were pretty much every bowl was chipped and on arrival we noticed at least one drinking glass was too. The internet router details in the book weren't correct and we had to hunt around for the router. Despite it saying that there was sufficient parking for a small car, there was not. The entrance to the drive is on a corner opposite a wall. There was no way to actually get the car on the drive and much of the time other cars parked on the corner making it impossible to even attempt. thankfully Youlgreave has a free car park a little up the road.

Such a lovely cottage, superbly equipped and ideally located for exploring the Peaks.. Our children loved how easily we could walk through the lanes to the swimming section of the river at bottom of the hill. Thank you so much Ben for all your help we will certainly be back

We had a fantastic week at the delightful Hope Cottage.. It had everything we needed to be warm and very comfortable despite the wild weather of storm Dennis. The cottage is really beautiful and very well furnished with a lovely cosy living room to relax and play games in the evening. Beds extremely comfortable. We enjoyed great walks from the house over the dales and around Youlgreave all topped off with the great food and hospitality of the local shops and fantastic pubs in the village just up the road. Would highly recommend Hope Cottage and this beautiful village. We were able to park on the street just up from the cottage so this was never an issue. We plan to return. My only comment would be that if 6 adults were using it with all walking gear etc it would feel a little crowded. The twin bedroom is better suited to children but a great place to stay and visit the area.

Beautiful cottage in a very convenient location to all nearby towns/ places of interests.. Everything had been thought of to make this a home from home. We and our dog especially appreciated the Pooch Pack

What a lovely cottage.. Cosy and extremely well appointed. Everything we needed was available and walking distance to 3 pubs and a couple of village shops. We all loved it!

The cottage has been tastefully renovated with the right balance of retaining old features and country contemporary so the cottage atmosphere is maintained.. . It's comfortable and warm. There's good information about the area and local facilities. We would gladly return

My family and I stayed at Hope Cottage for a weekend.. The cottage was a delight and had everything we required. Everything worked!!!! Very close to the pubs / food in Youlgreave.

Just the most wonderful cottage in the most beautiful location.. Everything we needed and more, the owners had truly thought of every single detail and it felt like a home from home. The cottage was modern with lovely touches of character and original features, the stained glass windows were stunning, it was also large whilst being really cosy - a perfect blend. Youlgrave it's such a lovely village, with three pounds close by and regular buses it's well provided for, there's plenty of beautiful walks for beginner and serious hiker alike and it's just down the road from plenty of good attractions such as Bakewell, Matlock Bath and Chatsworth House. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat! The owners are also incredibly friendly and helpful people and when we need help they went out of their way to provide it. 10 it of 10 all round!

The cottage was beautifully kept, lovely touches and very comfortable.. The owners very responsive to questions we had on arrival . Everything you need for a home from home stay and great quality. Parking is the only challenge, there is parking for one car which is at the back of the house however parking at the front is a challenge. Lovely village with walks, pubs , coffee shop and local store. We had a fabulous time.

We have stayed in this cottage several times before and enjoy its location and facilities.. This time however, although the price has increased yet again, we were aware of a number of minor maintenance issues. We couldn't make the landing lights work, although we found out right at the end that switches at top and bottom of stairs are not correctly wired as "two way" and both need to be on! Two of the bathroom lights did not work making shaving tricky. One socket in kitchen did not work - broken switch - and roller blind in downstairs bedroom did not work. Only trivial points which did not spoil our stay, but leave one thinking "I'm paying a 5 star price but only getting 4 star value." I left a note with the cleaners, who arrived promptly at 10.00 just as we were leaving.

The only gripe was TV reception was poor and restricted to DVD's.. Otherwise very nice cottage and brilliant location. Had a great week. Thanks

Hope Cottage is perfect for a family getaway, there were 6 adults and a dog and still plenty of room! The owners added touch of a Christmas tree was a lovely surprise, so thank you! The living room is so relaxing with the log fire, perfect for evenings in playing games! Location in a lovely little village not far from Bakewell; which we visited for an afternoon out! Thank you!!

The Cottage was very thoughtfully stocked ,we were able to cook our New Year's meal without any problems.. All linens were provided along with all the items that make a holiday hassle free...bin bags, hair dryers , hand wash, dish washer tabs etc...also plenty of loo rolls...although the parking has been mentioned a number of times , we didn't have too much of a problem and were able to park a large vehicle onto the small drive....however as previously mentioned in other reviews, it was made rather awkward to manoeuvre out of the spot by less than considerate local parking ..Parking spaces were available on the main road. Lovely local shop and Post Office just a two minute walk away. Also ,there are three pubs within a five minute walk. Excellent local walk along the river and through the woods.. The cottage was very welcoming to our Springer , providing towels and dog bowls. The local pub ( The Farm Yard ) is Dog Friendly We really enjoyed our stay and found that the compact cottage able to accommodate six adults. i found the feedback left by previous holiday makers very helpful.

Very comfortable cottage.. Parking area difficult to get into especially when another car parks on corner. Not suitable for disabled as several steps outside and sofas very low.

June 2018
This was a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting however the ‘garden’ area should perhaps be described as a patio without a gate - making it clear to dog owners this is not suitable for dogs who might run into the nearby road.. Also, the broadband speed (plus net) was very slow - in effect making it almost non-existent. We found this very frustrating - especially given phone signal was also patchy. This should have been clear in the description. I was unable to do some work from the cottage and would not have booked it if I’d known about this. Suggest broadband provider changed to enhance speed and something is done to boost the mobile phone reception inside.

May 2018
It was a lovely cottage, well equipped and a great base for the week.. Although there were six of us, we had enough room. The village was also well equipped and proved an ideal location for a weak in the Peak District. We would be happy to stay there again.

May 2018
A very nice cottage, well appointed and equipped .. The parking however is very difficult as it has two fixed posts which make it extremely difficult to park, and once this is achived people parking in front of the cottage severely impair getting your vechicle out. . The patio area is very tight, and I would not recommend anybody with restricted mobility to book as the wooden staircase is very steep.

Going to start with a Thank You to the property owner for sharing their wonderful property with us. On arrival, the high standard is very apparent in both the initial appearance and decoration throughout. As you enjoy the cottage, the attention to detail becomes more apparent with equipment and services. The underfloor heating was very welcome as the snow fell outside in January. The kitchen has everything you require (with the Post Office & General Store a short walk up the road for supplies). Boot trays keep the floor tidy and a lovely touch of the 'Dog Box' again, is great for keeping your living area tidy. The cottage information folder contains all additional detail you require for the cottage and surrounding area. This includes advice on pre-booking tables at The Farmyard Inn if you require a meal at the pub, only a short walk up the road. Parking, pre-arrival advice on car size - small/medium fits in the allocated area fine (restricted parking around the village) we had a 4x4 which fitted with the assistance of front/rear parking sensors (use caution). And places/walks of interest. Sykes Cottages manage the property and have the finer details. Thanks again to the owner, we had a fantastic stay.

We enjoyed an excellent week of walking from the cottage, part of the week with son and wife and 2 young grandchildren. The cottage was well equipped for all of us although the third bedroom is quite compact. There would have been space for a dog, along with dog cleaning and feeding kit, but we don't have one! The location is excellent with numerous walking options from the village without needing the car. There are 3 pubs in Youlgreave which all serve food, but we liked The Farmyard best, and it is only 100 metres away. There is a parking bay behind the cottage which is advertised as only being suitable for a small car but I was able to reverse my Citroen C4 Picasso (not exactly small) in without difficulty, apart from when a white van was parked awkwardly nearby. Having stayed in Youlgreave on several previous occasions parking is mainly "on-street" and during the part of the week when we had 2 cars we had no problem.

The cottage was well stocked and extremely comfortable and clean.. The only downside to this property that I saw was that if you have a dog that runs out of the door , the courtyard is not enclosed and the main road is next to property. This wasn't a problem for us as our dog is 11 and not prone to dashing off! They even provided towels and sponges for dogs which I thought was a lovely touch.

A very comfortable and well equipped cottage.. It was in a superb location with great easy walks from your door, which was perfect for us with two young children. The parking was as expected and there was also space on the road for my parents car. The villagers were very friendly and helpful would definitely recommend!

March 2017
A fabulous cottage and village.. It was spotlessly clean on arrival and warm. We especially loved the little touches, like tea and coffee. They even left Dishwasher tablets and detergent. Youlgreave is a lovely little village. We had to park outside the cottage as our car was a little too large. I would recommend the farmers arms for food and friendly atmosphere. We went out on trips to Ashbourne, Buxton, Matlock and Bakewell. In the village up a small turning by the the fountain is a wonderful bakery selling vegan food, gluten free cakes and other goodies. We really enjoyed our stay at Hope cottage and would recommend it to anyone. I would say if you have severe mobility problems then it is not suitable, but for people who's mobility is slightly impaired, there are some stone steps down into the cottage.

March 2017
Lovely cottage in good location in the village.. Well appointed, nice furniture, towels, bed linen. Extremely clean. Thanks for tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits. Double and King size beds very comfortable, 2 singles less so. Key arrangement good as did not have to take it with us and worry about who had it. Small bedroom needs better arrangement of side lights. Sofas and chair in sitting room very low. Maybe a grab rail in shower and above the bath would be helpful for those of us who are older/disabled. Nails in floor of main bedroom at end of bed need to knocked in more. Curve of inside staircase difficult for 1 person who uses crutches at the moment more rails could help. 2 people with mobility problems (i with stick, 1 with crutches) found outside steps slippery in the rain, not helped by gate at top which had nowhere to secure it and which turned off outside light if pressed against it. Also top step much higher than the others. A Bannister of some sort would be helpful along the wall and including the small steps from the car parking area and perhaps relocating the light switch, maybe have one near the front door and one near the gate that can't be turned off by it. Sounds like lots of complaints but we did enjoy the cottage, would stay there again in spite of difficulties - just a few thoughts which could improve things. Have written this in the Visitors' book.

We had a wonderful family stay at Hope Cottage (complete with dog). Hope Cottage is a charming, cosy period home and is of an extremely high standard (comfy beds, cotton linen, fluffy towels, immaculately clean, well equipped kitchen, log burner - even towels and sponges for our dog). The location couldn't be more perfect. Youlgreave is a very picturesque village with plenty of varied, scenic walks to satisfy all levels of fitness right from the front door. We loved weaving our way down the hill past pretty cottages to the river (5 mins) which would be an excellent place to paddle in the summer as well as having a designated swimming area a little further along. It is also very well situated for exploring the main attractions of the area being not far from Chatsworth, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock etc. The Farmyard Inn just a short hop from the front door provides a warm welcome and good food and beers and we also liked Peak Feast (Moor Lane) for cakes, hot soup, homemade ready meals and delicious Homity Pie - a great place to get a picnic for a walk. We would love to return - What more could anyone want?!

We have a large car (Ford S Max) we managed to park it in car space but it would of been so much easier if a small section of wall was taken out, especially when some inconsiderate drivers park right on the edge of the lane you drive down..

Fantastic village and cottage. This cottage has a great location in the village. With a great pub across the road and great walks at the rear , what more could u need. Dog friendly cottages of this quality are difficult to find. Proper English village.

Loved the cottage, really comfortable and well equipped.. The log burner was a massive hit with my 3 children.

October 2016
The parking although states can accommodate a small car was inaccessible the whole holiday.. We were able to find parking along the road, however this maybe alot harder in the summer due to the many walkers the village seemed to attract and number of cars. Otherwise this is the nicest cottage we have had the pleasure of booking so far!
Mrs Wood, October 2016
October 2016
The parking space was impossible to use.. On weekends and other busy times, the lack of parking could quite spoil the holiday. If we ever went back to this lovely village in its beautiful walking area, we would book a cottage with actual usable parking.
Mrs Brooks, October 2016
September 2016
The cottage was very good but we would prefer a garden area for our dog to run i didn't think about this at the time.. The parking was a little tricky but that was explained. The location was excellent with good access to local attractions and pubs. There were a few light bulbs not working but this is easily fixed. Overall we enjoyed the holiday. we appreciated the last minute email from yourselves including the addresss and key code. When you have busy working lives it's easy to forget to take this information when packing. Thanks

We had a fantastic holiday in the Peak District and the cottage really helped towards that; it was clean, well decorated and equipped with everything we needed. It is in the perfect location to go and explore and see places and there were plenty of places to eat nearby, we would definitely recommend Hope Cottage.

A superb property with lots of traditional features retained, with all mod cons available. There was a pub less than 200 yards away serving great food. In a very quiet location, but still in the heart of the village and with lots of great walking on your doorstep.

My wife, young daughter and I spent three nights at Hope cottage after seeing it come on the market at the last minute (I think we were one of the first few guests to stay). It's in a cracking location just a stone's throw from the best pub in the village and if you follow the road past the cottage it takes you down a lovely path to the river. Our three-year old girl loved paddling in the river! The cottage itself is just as nice as the pictures suggest and the owners have clearly paid a lot of attention to making everything just right and the finishing touches are top notch. We spent one night cooking for some friends who visited us and it was a pleasant surprise to have such a well-equipped kitchen - everything we needed was there. All in all a fantastic cottage and village - highly recommended.
