Hoopers End description

Holiday home
Hoopers End is a wonderful, end-terrace holiday home set over three floors within a stone barn conversion in Sedgwick, five miles from the market town of Kendal in the Lake District. The property has four bedrooms, three with double beds, including one on the second floor with an en-suite shower room, plus a room with twin beds. There is also a family bathroom with a bath and a separate shower, plus a WC in the utility room on the ground floor. There is a kitchen, and the dining room and sitting room can either be joined as one open plan space or closed off to provide a cosier room to relax by the woodburner-style gas fire. French doors open onto the terraced patio with a built-in seating area, which provides access to the lawned garden at the front of the property. There is off road parking for two cars and beautiful views of undulating Lakeland countryside. A wonderful holiday base for exploring the Lakes.

Area
An historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal sits on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. The Abbot Hall Art Gallery's regular collection exhibits portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With other attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, Lake Windermere and the wider National Park within easy reach, Kendal provides a superb base for a relaxing break.

Region
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.

We particularly liked the space, luxury and comfort. The best holiday cottage we have used in over 30 years and we hope to return.

We felt that the property was extremely comfortable and we felt very much at home. Unusually for us we found ourselves reluctant to leave! We hope to return next year. We also liked the fact that the booking days were flexible, allowing us to stay for the days we wanted.

The cottage is superb. It's beautifully designed, with high quality furnishings. The space was exactly what we needed for our party of five. We particularly appreciated the cosy lounge area, the well-appointed kitchen, and the warm cupboard for drying wet clothes.

Fantastic lovely luxury large cottage with all the amenities you can think of. We had a great stay and enjoyed being snowed in at such a lovely home. Wish we could transport the house to where we live and enjoy it. M&P plus Alfred Hound x

We (me and my wife) stayed here with five friends in July 2016 and every single one of us could have stayed longer. Even though there were seven of us in the house, it didn't feel like we were on top of each other - this place is really spacious and comfortable. It's in a lovely location overlooking fields (look out for the bunny rabbits running across the field!). The rooms are big and spacious, and its furnished to a very high standard. Even though it's not right by the main part of the Lake District, it's not too far to drive to anywhere in the South Lakes and it was nice to be out of the main thoroughfare anyway - it's a very peaceful place to stay! We'd definitely recommend Hoopers End.

The cottage was immaculate.. Plenty room for 7 adults. The walk to the farm & strickland pub was lovely. Its a good 20 -30 min walk. Both served lovely food. People should be made aware walking back in the dark you need torches as pitch black & no street lighting. Everyone was very helpful and friendly.

For your info.. ....The shower in the top bedroom ensuite. If the shower head is directed at the glass, as it had been left by cleaners a lot of water leaks out onto flour and carpet. I only happened to notice it as I had turned on the shower to warm up before stepping in. It was a lot of water, could be dreadful, if whole shower before noticed. It was the perfect place for us to meet up and then to go out to the Kendal Mountain Festival. Lovely hone to stay in, so well equipped, tastefully decorated, light and positive feel to lovely place.

The cottage was more than adequate for 8 adults, a baby and a dog.. There was everything provided to make our stay enjoyable. The standard of decoration and cleanliness was exceptional. Located in a quiet village within easy reach of the motorway and easy reach to the lakes. Highly recommended.

Holiday was good, a bit of trouble with heating control, however, the owner talked me through this.. Light coloured carpets were unsuitable for seven people and a dog.

Are only problem was the oven as we had 3 young children with us we ate in each evening and the oven door didn’t close completely so it took a long time to cook our food.. The cottage was a lovely place to stay fabulous inside and a great location.

Lovely, well-equipped cottage with excellent facilities, perfect for the family group ranging from 3 to 70 years old.. Heating was very effective so we didn't even have an excuse to use the gas burner in the lounge!

Here were a lack of bowls! 4 bowls for an 8 person cottage! Lack of instructions for heating / hot water, tv operation etc. The smallest room with the double bed sloped down towards head board. We had to prop the end of the bed up. A stopper on the floor for the main bathroom door would be good. If the door isn't shut properly (kids) the door swings open and loudly hits the shower tray. There was a problem with the water pressure that was corrected quite quickly by Kevin who was very apologetic. My elderly mother arrived on the Friday, we arrived on the Saturday and sorted the problem out. Proportionately speaking she was colder for longer and felt a little short changed. The white writing from the sign that names the cottage next to the front door has disappeared which meant the Tesco delivery we had arranged on our arrival was not delivered; the driver said he couldn't find the cottage. If the sign was improved this not only would make it easier for guests to find but they would get fed too! Overall though, a great space in quiet location fit for purpose, we would recommend, especially so if all the niggles above were addressed.

Another excellent holiday at Hoopers End(our third).. This was a family celebration and we had a great time. The accommodation is spacious and felt like a home from home - only one small grouse- the house is beautifully furnished but the carpets do need a clean!
