We had a great time. The cottage was lovely. There were a lot of nice touches like a selection of board games and DVDs. There was a very thoughtful welcome basket full of bread, treats (for the dogs as well), wine and even a blanket which was very appreciated on the colder nights. The hot tub was great and well maintained as we noticed the owners checked it regularly. There was a detailed book full of information including how to use the hot tub and the log fire and even sample menus from restaurants in the area. They also left us an envelope full of leaflets on attractions and things to do. It is a very rural area so there was no phone signal but we didn't really find this to be an issue as the cottage had WiFi. Lots of wildlife and it was lambing season so there were many cute lambs around which I have so many photos of. We did a lot of hikes such as travelling from Ilam Park to the Dovedale Stepping stones (we highly recommend printing out directions as there is no signal. Wellies are essential unless you fancy getting your trainers stuck in mud like I did lol Those with lower mobility should skip the trail and take the road route round or just park at the Dovedale Stepping Stones instead). Parking at Ilam park and Dovedale are expensive so take change or find somewhere free to park. We also did Thors Cave (We would recommend hiking boots for this one and again to print any directions as no signal - prepare for a hike up a mountain like trail which can be uneven). Both of these were not that far away from the cottage. We went on a lot of adventures like these during the day and spent the evening unwinding in the cottage and hot tub. The only "bad" feedback I would give is that the beds were a bit hard and uncomfortable for us but we're all used to memory foam mattresses so that's probably why. Otherwise we all had a lovely time and were sad to be leaving.

The cottage is fantastic, with everything you need for a week's stay and thoughtfully kitted out and prettily decorated. On arrival the owners, Ruth and Kate, had left a gorgeous welcome hamper, full of essentials like milk, butter and bread but also goodies like wine, chocolate, cookies and dog treats. A super surprise. The dogs were well looked after too with dog beds and bowls provided. The kitchen has everything, and even dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and washing liquid provided. The hot tub was amazing. Coming home tired from a day walking or cycling and then soaking in the tub was just wonderful. And there were even robes for everyone so you didn't have to walk from house to tub in your swimmers. We enjoyed sitting on the bench in the garden in the evening, having a glass of wine, watching and listening to the birds and meeting Martha, the local friendly cat. The bathroom is generously sized, with a rainfall shower and a large roll top bath. Could do with an extractor fan though as it gets a bit steamy after the family all use it in the morning. There is log burner with plenty of logs and the first fire ready made if you have a chilly evening. Very snug on the big sofas with fur blankets. The village is pretty, many lovely gardens, and it's just a few minutes to the Black Lion pub. It's good for a quick pint after a day out or does nice pub food. Friendly staff and lots of tables, but booking recommended as it is popular. Not much walking from the front door, though we did walk to Thors Cave and back, but on the road a bit. For great walks drive up to Edale for Kinder Scout or Castleton for Mam Tor. Drive to Blackwell Mill to hire bikes and cycle along to Bakewell on the Monsal Trail. If it's really wet then Stoke with a big cinema is just half hour. Lyme House is a good day out too, lovely grounds and gardens and fraction of the price of Chatsworth. A lovely week away, thoroughly recommend a stay here!

We have just spent a very enjoyable week at Hoo Brook Cottage in the lovely village of Butterton. The cottage was delightful and very well equipped with everything we needed including a BBQ, log burner and a private hot tub When we arrived, we were met with a really generous hamper which even included treats for our two dogs who were made to feel very welcome. Butterton is a great village from which to enjoy some of the lovely local walks and the local pub, the Black Lion Inn (5 minutes walk from the cottage) is also an ideal finish point for food and drinks We would definitely recommend and I’m sure we’ll return at some point in the future
