We stayed in cottage early Sept for a week, prior to our leaving home contacted the owner who told us about electric problems, which had to be sorted, hence no electric on the Tuesday, we had to leave the cottage open to the electrical contractor, which we were not happy about, also told no WiFi but would leave sons password for us, this was not done, also about contaminated water, but left 2x5 litre bottles for us, but boiled water was used for everything else. The son was not too happy about giving us his password, which could only be used in the upstairs window ledge, nowhere else in the cottage. Did not feel homely at all, very cold due to there being no extra furnishings in the cottage, which we could understand due to the virus, but on our next cottage the following week, it had everything. This cottage was not up to standard, we have used many cottages around the UK and this one certainly rates the lowest. Did not meet the owner at all, very isolated, no mobile phone signal, hence no contact if there was an emergency. Did not feel it was a working farm which we had looked forward to.

I booked this cottage via the Sykes holiday cottages website 2 weeks prior to my holiday. The day before I was due to arrive at the cottage, I contacted the owner on phone to arrange to pick up the keys. She told me then that there were a couple of issues with the property - one was that the water supply at the property had been deemed unsafe by the council due to the presence of enterococci, therefore it could not be used to drink but was safe to use for other purposes. She told me that she was taking all the measures advised by the council, but that the water was safe to use if boiled, and that she would leave 10 litres of bottled water for me to drink. The second issue was that there was no wifi at the property (it was advertised as having wifi), and that it would be set up on the 5th day of my week long stay there. When I arrived at the property, I read the council notice about the water supply, which stated that it could not be used for food preparation or cleaning teeth - which was a great inconvenience as it meant fruit and veg could not be washed at the tap, nor could I clean my teeth at the tap. I would have to boil water, leave it to cool, then use this to wash food items or carry it upstairs to clean my teeth, which was not what I had expected to be doing on holiday. I also found that there was 4 litres of bottled water left at the property, rather than 10. Finally, I found that not only was there no wifi, there was absolutely no mobile signal in a 3 mile radius of the property, and there was no landline either, leaving no means of communication at all in an emergency. The next day I expressed my unhappiness to the owner about these issues, and asked for a partial refund in view of the inconveniences. Her reply was that she had informed me about the issues beforehand and she saw no reason why she should make any concessions to me. I got no reply when I pointed out that she had not informed me of the issues before I had paid for the non-refundable booking. She did provide extra bottled water when I pointed out that 4 litres was not adequate for a whole week.

This is a wonderful holiday cottage.. Excellently kitted out, clean, and tidy. It has a lovely wood burner fire and there are electric storage heaters in the living room and bedrooms. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The location is in the beautiful Arto valley surrounded by rugged mountains with spectacular views. We have stayed at Y Bwythyn three years in succession.

We had a magical few days.. A warm welcome with a fantastic homemade Victoria sponge cake. Cottage was great. But the magic is that this has to be the best of real Wales. The road from Llanbedr to Cym Buchan is beyond compare, antient Welsh Oak trees, the river, the brooding mountains. Great walking country. In Autumn the colours were amazing. I recommend that you stay here and enjoy.

This was our second visit to Y Bwthyn, we enjoyed our stay so much last year that we returned for another early Autumn break this year too.. It's a real home from home, very well equipped and cosy. we had 3 storms blow through while we were there, but the double glazing and wood burner ensured we were cosy and warm. The remote location provided all the peace and quiet, and beautiful scenery which make for a very relaxing time. Mrs Hughes, the owner, is very friendly, welcoming and helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed. I'm sure we'll be back for a 3rd visit!

A beautifully situated cottage and well equipped.. Only book this cottage if you have a confident driver who doesn't mind reversing in narrow roads.

The cottage was so well equipped, we had everything we expected and needed and more.. The cottage was clean and spacious and the owners made us feel welcome and at home immediately. We were also left with tea, coffee, milk, eggs and a home made cake. We couldn’t have asked for more and have already booked up for next year.

April 2018
When we arrived the shower did not work.. The cottage is remote so there was no mobile signal. The following day the owners were called, and as promised the shower was working when we returned. However, to obtain even warm water the flow was little more than a drip. The owner should invest in a shower unit that works. The bath water delivered was of a rustic colour. Probably no big deal but not what most travellers will be used to. Also the volume of hot water was insufficient for the three of us to have a bath without a considerable wait. Come on Mrs Hughes, this is 2018. Put your hand in your pocket and provide a decent supply of hot water via both shower and bath.

Wow, what can we say about this beautiful place.. Set in the breathe taking mountains on a working sheep and cattle farm. You can hear the river which is just across the road from the cottage. The cottage it’s self is very quaint, has everything you need, you have to get is food. Only qualm is the double bed was a bit hard for us but that is a personal preference. The family who own the place are very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The homemade cake that was left for us was delicious. The walks in the local area are stunning. Will will definitely return for another stay.

July 2016
The location was very peaceful and quite remote, being three miles from the nearest village. There was just the sound of the nearby river, and, on days that weren't misty, the views of the nearby hills were beautiful. The cottage was more than adequate for our needs, it was spacious and very clean, with plenty of leaflets and information inside the house. We particularly liked being close to nature, so this suited all four of us.

June 2016
An excellent property which was well furnished and welcoming. This has to be one of the best equipped properties we have ever stayed in. The soft furnishings and beds were extremely comfortable. Everything possible had been done to ensure our holiday was comfortable and hassle free. Thank you to the owner for the trouble they've taken to make this cottage a home from home.

Fabulous place that catered for our every needs. It was a lovely cosy, cute place and having such a peaceful and tranquil location helps make it a wonderful place to experience real rural Welsh farming life. We have stayed in many places in Wales and this is by far the best. A most memorable stay.

The cottage far exceeded our expectations and the photos on the Sykes website probably don't do it justice. The location was superb - very peaceful but within easy reach of a plethora of local attractions. Highly recommended!

May 2015
This was an absolutely typical country cottage that us city folk imagine and it did not disappoint in any way. The farmer was extremely helpful in pointing out places to walk our dog - which was a delightful lane with a river running next to it right outside our cottage. He also gave us tips on places to visit in the local area which was extremely helpful. We were left to enjoy our cottage holiday without intrusion however we knew we could ask the owner for anything we needed. Would highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a relaxing country holiday away from the city, and also close to the coastal town of Barmouth which gave us the best of both worlds.
Mr Harper

A beautiful, isolated location, far away from noise distractions, and perfect for local walks in the countryside. The cottage itself was warm, cosy and amply supplied.

April 2015
The Cottage was very well equipped and EVERYTHING was included. It was quiet and peaceful with lots of areas for long country walks, it was an ideal spot to unwind and relax. The whole family enjoyed the peace and tranquillity and we will highly recommend it. The star rating needs upgrading as it does not do it justice.

November 2014
Every effort was made to ensure we had all we needed to start our holiday- milk , tea , coffee and some cakes left for us on arrival along with plenty of logs etc and the heating hot water were on making a very cosy arrival. We had a fantastic visit it was a well equipped and loverly cottage remote and peaceful ( No Mobile Signal at all) with the added bonus of being situated in one of the most stunning valleys in N Wales and would not hesitate to recommend to any one ( In fact we already have) and plan to return for another visit

October 2014
Loved the get-away-from-it-all location - the murmur of the little river, the total absence of traffic, the lovely walks, the wildlife, the rugged beauty of the scenery with waterfalls and rocky hills. All that we needed was a short car ride away. There were plenty of empty beaches all along this coastline too . The cottage was thoughtfully equipped with just about everything you could need from spare logs and kids DVD'S to a shoe shine kit - splendid effort !

April 2014
The setting was beautiful and everything we could have needed was provided. We were greeted by the sight of new born lambs looking in the rear kitchen window, what a lovely start to our holiday! The log fire in the evenings was a particular attraction, there were lots of lovely walks near the cottage and the local people were friendly and welcoming. The Cakes on arrival were 'lush' as described by the children. The location is perfect for a mixture of local walking and trips to Snowdon, Barford and Harlech. We had a brilliant time.

We were greeted with welsh cakes they were scrumptious. Although we were told the water was from a spring and may be discolored, we could taste nothing different to our own tap water. we felt that we were catered for in every way and would recommend this cottage to any one and everyone. We would like to say a really big thank you to the owners, they did us proud. The cottage is located 3 miles from Llanbedr, down some narrow country lanes, it is off the beaten track really quiet, it is also very cosy and warm. Brian & Patricia Farthing / Alan & Julie Frost

The cottage felt homely rather than just somewhere to stay. It was well equipped; the kitchen had everything and the washer/dryer was a godsend. The location was beautiful and we were well located to travel north or south depending on where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. King Arthur's Labyrinth at Collis Craft Centre was very interesting and fun with some beautiful craft shops too. There are fantastic views to be seen and beautiful beaches in Wales and we're already looking at booking again for next year.

The cottage is located on a 500 acre sheep farm in the middle of Snowdonia. It is attached to the farmhouse. The farmer and his wife are lovely people and invited us in to the farm several times. The cottage has 2 bedrooms, a log burning fire in the living room and a fully fitted kitchen/diner. The nearest village is 3 miles away along a very winding road that is single track for about 2 miles.Harlech is a short drive away and the towns of Porthmadog and Barmouth are worth a visit. The roads to all these towns has spectacular views. All in all we had an different but unforgettable holiday. Really enjoyed it.
