The Piggery is a semi-detached barn conversion in the small village of Farndale in the heart of the North Yorks Moors National Park. The cottage sleeps two people and a double bedroom on the mezzanine floor and a family shower room. There is also an open plan living area with a fitted kitchen and a sitting area with a gas fire. Outside is off road parking and an enclosed patio with outdoor furniture and use of a shared paddock. Perfect for a romantic retreat in North Yorkshire, The Piggery is a lovely holiday home all year round.Note: Some restricted headroom in bedroom Note: Access is via steep farm drive Note: Water is from a spring through a microfilter and UV lamp and is fully drinkable Note: No infants or children under 16 years old Note: Earliest check in time is 4pm and check out by 10am

Area
Farndale is a small village in North Yorkshire. Close by are Kirkbymoorside, Pickering and the picturesque villages of Hutton-le-Hole and Lastingham.

The North York Moors National Park covers 554 square miles, with landscape ranging from heather-clad moorland and deep secluded dales, to the cliffs and coves of the magnificent coastline making it a haven for walkers.

Owners lived next door and were very friendly and helpful with tips about walks, food and birds in the area.. A special place to stay with places to walk out from as well as lots to do further afield. Really comfortable accommodation with the bonus of an outside space and we were lucky to have a sea eagle fly over. So altogether perfect.

The "Piggery" was immaculate, with underfloor heating! Cosy and inviting! Everything you needed was there. Wonderful views from the house. Very comfortable Queen size bed, placed on a mezzanine upstairs. Perfect in every way. Good reliable WiFi. Barry, our host was excellent, though little seen. Thank you.

Just spent a week in this beautiful barn conversion. Inside, it has all you need for your stay. Outside, the view is stunning and the surrounding area is just so beautiful. Two local pubs serving lovely food. Too many places to visit to list here. Lovely little villages and of course lots of walking. Barry and Lynn are the perfect hosts, there if you need them but leave you alone be if not. Just the one downside.... we had to come home. Would highly recommend

Off the beaten track and such a peaceful bolthole to escape the modern world. The only traffic hazards to encounter are the abundance of local wildlife including grouse, pheasants, ducks, hares and rabbits; which make a welcome change from vehicles! Great access to the moors and there two pubs within a 10 minute drive with lots of pretty villages close by including Hutton Le Hole. Walk-in spacious shower and huge, comfy bed! Thank you both for your hospitality and the lovely gift of a calendar. [One minor consideration to look out for as you come down the stairs in The Piggery if you are tall-ish, is to mind your head on the ceiling!]

I just cannot recommend this place highly enough. It was reasonably priced which was some of the attraction. Beautifully decorated. Large bedroom which overlooked lounge. Fantastic bathroom.Seats outside to enjoy the amazing views and listen to the sheep! Rabbits running around, too. Met by friendly owner. Milk, tea and biscuits left and during the week some fresh eggs. Delicious. Lots to see in the area. I could go on.............!!

A beautiful renovated barn done to the highest of standards.. Attention to decor and detail was brilliant. Instructions and information were accurate and useful. Lovely friendly hosts who were happy to help with information. We had a fortnight of excellent weather so were spoiled for choice of activities.Good walking area, easy reach of York and Whitby, lots of good places to eat out. Shopping needs to be planned for when you are passing through places with a supermarket, but several within easy access of 20 minutes plus. Would recommend this lovely place; we were sad to leave.

This cottage is well off the beaten track.. The road down to it is narrow and there is a long drive up. Look for the sign on the gate that says Hill Houses. The ‘top’ road has sheep grazing on the roadside and not too many cars. It’s all lovely! The decor in The Piggery is excellent. The bedroom is large and the bathroom is fabulous! Wonderful views. Great area to explore. Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes in particular. Highly recommended!!

Without doubt, the cottage is the best self catering cottage I have stayed in. You can tell the owner is an electrician by the fact that there are 10 double sockets in the lounge and 9 in the kitchen. He carried out the barn conversion himself and it shows in the outstanding quality of the design. The walk-in wet room-style shower is superb.

Farndale is an escape from the crowds. The cottage is very well appointed and situated to supply a lovely view of the valley. Surrounded by farmland with sheep, lots of rabbits,good variety of birds. A fair distance to shops so work out your shopping and bring supplies for your stay. The coastal villages are only 30 minutes away. Lots to do in this area and this is a good base for exploring.

The Piggery is situated in picturesque Farndale. The lounge, kitchen & bedroom all have lovely views over the valley. The cottage has an open plan lounge, diner & kitchen, with the bedroom situated on the mezzanine level with an adjoining walk-in shower room and toilet. Everything has been thought of - there is a cooker, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer, coffee maker, dishwasher, washing machine, toaster, slow cooker, radio, TV & DVD player - and the whole cottage was immaculately clean. The owners even thoughtfully provide, tea, coffee, milk & biscuits as a welcome. There is a good wifi. Because of health reasons we needed to have mobile telephone coverage. This was achieved wth the help of the owner who helped us connect our Vodaphone Sure Signal. This is a very quiet location in the dales 10 mins drive from the local pub and about 20 mins from the local supermarket (open long hours), so planning is needed for meals! However, we successfully cooked most of our meals with the equipment in the cottage. There is lots to do in the area, from walking, cycling & shooting to visits to NT properties, stately homes, the coast and steam trains. A stay at The Piggery is highly recommended!

Excellently well kitted out apartment (fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher...all the way to slow cooker), with lovely furniture and decor, also immaculately clean. It has all you could think to need on a week away. The area is beautiful, we stayed in late august when the heather was in full purple bloom, although you will need a car to get almost anywhere other than the nearest pub that is about a 20 min walk away. Owner is friendly and knowledgeable but gives you the space to enjoy your holiday.

This was our first holiday in a cottage and wow, have we been spoilt. The cottage and the location were superb, if you want peace and quiet and fantastic views, this is the place. Everything has been done to a very high spec. Tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival were a lovely thought. The owner was there if you needed him, otherwise he just left you to enjoy yourselves. A great location with easy access to York, Scarborough, Whitby etc. Fabulous accommodation which was extremely well equipped, truly a home from home. There were stunning views from your own private patio and peace and quiet! Had a friendly welcome, will go again.
