The facilities and whole environment really were second to none! So many thoughtful and thought provoking ideas to make the experience both luxurious and eco friendly. Quite a special place - and hopefully an example of what self-catering facilities will all be like in the future

Lovely peaceful setting and a comfortable cottage.. We arrived to find a box of fresh vegetables and Lakeland plum bread waiting for us - which was very welcome. We never managed to get the underfloor heating in the bedroom to come on, but it wasn’t a particularly cold weekend and the rest of the cottage was warm. The log burner was also well supplied and made for cozy evenings.

Excellent modern eco friendly house; underfloor heating needs careful use especially with the need, by the owner, to anticipate a cold snap 24 hrs ahead. Well kittec out, very comfortable house; alas the sofas were very low and difficult for older people. Great use of the surrounding land to good effect. Complex is well placed for the far west Lakes and close to Cockermouth which offers good, varied and enjoyable facilities. Very happy to return.

The directions to the cottage were clear and concise. We were pleased that the cottage lived up to our online view of it back in January. The owner met us shortly after arrival and was friendly. The cottage was comfortable and modern, we particularly liked the oak stairs and furniture which were made locally, even the coat rack by the door was inspiring. The provision of some beer and chocolates on arrival was a nice touch although bread and milk might have been more practical. The ECO kettle was a pain in the wrist - literally- for my wife, it was just as easy to fill a kettle with sufficient water for two cups of coffee! It was quite heavy to lift. The instructions about the day to day running of the cottage were very good, although we already do recycle things at home so this was not new to us, although some comments in the visitors book suggested otherwise. As suggested, we attempted to walk into Cockermouth by the riverside footpath, we soon gave up after a few hundred yards of not very well defined footpath, barbed wire and flotsam and jetsam from the river Parking and access were excellent. A good base to explore the North western Lake District but a bit of a trek if you needed to venture down to Coniston or Windermere. The nearby restaurant at Winder hall in Lorton was very good -friendly service and good food. All in all comfortable, spacious accommodation.

We wanted a top notch cottage in an 'off the beaten track' location in the north of the lovely Lake District. Esther's Barn more than lived up to our expectations. Don't be mistaken into thinking that 'eco-friendly' means compromising on quality though. Everything was of the highest standard, from the modern design to the attention to detail in fixtures, fittings and equipment (down to the solar powered radio!).

Spent 5 days staying in Esthers Barn with my husband,my son and his lovely new wife. The barn was spotless and we loved the furnishings and furniture. The open plan gave it a spacious feeling. We especially liked the fact that each bedroom had it's own en-suite. The location was ideal for us as we enjoy the Northern part of the Lake District and the journey into Cockermouth or Keswick was not a problem and we ate in most evenings. The kitchen was extemely well equipped and cooking was not a chore. Although there are three other properties on site, that was never a problem, we didn't even see the other guests until departure day. Altogether it was a lovely, relaxing experience and we will certainly visit again.
