Croft granary is a great location to stay to explore the area from York to the coast.. The property was spotlessly clean with fresh linen. It was nice to arrive and have some shopping essentials already there for you. There are some lovely walks around the village. Diane and Mike are very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend a stay at this property.

Lovely cottage and very relaxing.. Great location for exploring the area. Easy access to York the local bus runs every hour. We used the local pub and food and beer very good and all the locals made us feel extremely welcome. Mike and Diane the owners of the cottage are very friendly and helpful. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to stay.

Before we left we had an opportunity to speak to the landlord about the cleanliness of the property which we felt was sub-standard.. The landlady gave an explanation as to why the property was not as clean as it should have been and we accepted that some of the issues were down to poor management however, simply getting someone from the village with little experience of cleaning demonstrates that the landlords may not hold cleaning with a very high regard. Our first impression of the cottage was fine and what we were expecting from the online images. Upon settling in it became clear that this cottage has been fitted out without the holiday maker in mind. 'En-suite' is a creative way to describe a shower in a room. No hand basin and no toilet to complete the en-suite and no door to the 'en-suite' which made privacy an issue. There was a washing machine but no tumble drier. Admittedly, a tumble drier was not listed and I will be more careful next time but, it should be noted, that when you are on holiday, it's not acceptable that you have to wait three days for you clothes to dry - you need your clothes straight away if you have purposefully travelled light. Neither is it great that the oven and hob did not have any instructions so it took ages to work out how to get them to the right temperature. This was another feature that wasted our time. We were on holiday, we expected everything to be easy to use and quick to use so that we could get out and do what we wanted to do rather than wait ages for things to cook. There was chipped crockery in the cupboards, some of the pots and pans didn't feel clean. The towels and bath mats were very worn and shabby. The bedroom furniture in the twin room was broken. The downstairs toilet didn't have a light switch. We had to take the bulb out to turn the light off. The ground outside the front door isn't level so you're always greeted with a big puddle when leaving and returning to the house if it rains. To us this looked like a property that was fitted out years ago and had never been revisited. Everything was shabby around the edges and not the country cottage image that we were looking forward to. Whilst discussing the cleaning issues with the landlady we felt some embarrassment for her but, on reflection, most of the issues were unrelated to cleaning immediately prior to our arrival. Most of the dust and dirt looked to be very historic. It didn't ruin our holiday as we spent most of our days out of the property but, with only one holiday each year, we kind of expect to stay somewhere that is nicer than our own house. This wasn't the case with this cottage. Stillington is a lovely village to stay in and we visited the pubs and the Indian in the village all of which offered very good service. With regards to publishing this feedback - I don't mind, I'll leave it to Sykes to decide how useful they think it would be for other visitors.

A cute little cottage perfect for a short break.. The village of Stillington is beautiful and well served with two pubs doing great food (ate at both), an Indian restaurant (didn’t try) and a fish and chip shop (closed for hols when we were there), all at doorstep. The cottage is well equipped (although we suggest the light in downstairs bathroom is fixed), and comfortable. We didn’t get the eggs promised in the welcome letter but not a problem. There’s a lovely little store in the village selling essentials.

Nice location, Mike and Diane very friendly, 2 friendly dogs, some chickens and small flock of sheep on the small holding.. Lots of nice walks on the door step and only 30 minutes outside of York. Local Chippie almost opposite was also good.

Used as a base for a 3 day break with my Mum. Beautifully restored building with modern decor but retaining some period features. Located in sleepy little village with a couple of pubs, shop etc within walking distance. Made most welcome by the owners with coffee, milk, biscuits and fresh eggs provided for us on arrival. Easy 15 min drive to the Rawcliffe park and ride to access York centre or about the same distance from Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall etc all well worth visiting. All in all a perfect relaxing break... I would recommend to anyone!

The Granary was comfortable and cosy.. There were nice touches like tea, coffee and biscuits provided and the owners went the extra mile by giving my grandson a small present and card for his birthday. Ideal for exploring the coutryside north of York. The bus ride into York takes about 40 mins.

Lovely comfortable cottage situated in a pretty village.. The cottage had everything we needed. We stayed over Christmas and it was lovely and cosy and they put up a lovely Christmas tree for us in the lounge. There is easy access to York and other interesting towns and countryside. Plenty of places to eat and a small shop in the village and Easingwold is very close and has plenty of shops

Everything was fine - very well described so no surprises.. Overall, a very positive experience but with one or two minor quibbles; there was no WiFi and the connection very helpfully provided by the landlady was not adequate. Also, the two single beds were very narrow. Other than that the landlady Diane was lovely, helpful and hospitable and we would have no hesitation recommending her to others.

We had a great holiday, the cottage was clean, comfortable, in a great situation with lovely views from the back.. The village is beautiful with plenty of places to eat and a well stocked community run village shop and post office. We were really impressed with the lovely welcome pack of milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and fresh eggs from Diane's chickens. The owners Mike and Diane were really friendly but let us enjoy our holiday without being intrusive. Thank you to them both. We would definitely recommend this cottage and will be returning in the future.

Very nice clean, comfortable and cosy holiday let well situated.. Cottage situated in village with pubs, stores and good walks around village. Owners left starter pack with tea, coffee, milk, biscuits and eggs from their chickens, much appreciated. Maybe needs a few more pots and pans if catering for more than 2 people but manageable. We enjoyed our stay and will hopefully return in the future.

Good, honest, clean accommodation. Good location with excellent local pub, shop and fish and chip shop. Well located for York with good bus service despite the really rural village atmosphere. Close enough to nearby attractions for easy trips out yet cosy and quiet enough to spend pleasant time at the cottage.

June 2014
Service from Diane and Mike was excellent and nothing seemed too much trouble. They provided us with eggs and a lovely welcome pack. We had 4 adults in our party and had a large double room and a smaller twin room. Although there was only one shower, it coped very well. Location was excellent for touring around and the White Bear and the Indian restaurant were great for meals. We also cooked several nights and there were plenty of glasses, cutlery and crockery and cooking utensils. We would have liked to have stayed longer!

The owners were very friendly. The accommodation was warm and comfortable. The setting was peaceful and quiet, and the surroundings villages and countryside were lovely, but York was not too far away. There was plenty to do for both adults and an 8 year old.

Croft Granary is a perfect base for exploring York and the surrounding areas. The house has all the facilities you need in a cosy atmosphere. More than enough room for 4. It's set in an idyllic village with easy access to the house, and parking for more than 1 car. The owners are polite and friendly, making sure you have everything you need, but leave you to enjoy your holiday in peace. It's also the most space and best facilities we've had for such a reasonable price. There's also ten-pin bowling, a cinema, crazy golf and a large supermarket in close proximity. Lovely to be surrounded by sheep and chickens, the ideal countryside experience.

June 2013
We really liked the cottage, it was ideal for our holiday, a perfect base. It was just the right mix of modern and cosy and close enough to York that we could easily drive in there everyday. It was also isolated enough for us, but the roads were easy and safe to drive.
Mrs Cooke
May 2013
A comfortable base in a pleasant village with easy access to many places of interest; the bus for York and all its attractions stops in the village, Fountains Abbey, Castle Howard, Bennington Hall... I could go on and on!

The cottage was clean and very comfortable. It is ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds which are beautiful and unspoilt. Our host was extremely welcoming. We believe the cottage should have a four star rating rather than a three.

A recently converted granary type home in a very good position beside the village green with easy access and private parking beside the cottage. The owners live beside the cottage and are most pleasant and helpful. Accommodation was very clean and well presented, plus had excellent heating should the weather be cold.It had all one could wish for, plus a fenced outside patio area with water feature ( safe for children) with long views to distant hills. The village is well kept and interesting with a wide range of old buildings , plus some good places to eat out and a small village shop . There are plenty of places to visit only a short drive away ; York Park and Ride is about 20 minutes drive and is an easy way to get to the centre areas of York. The neighbour with the Steam Engines was very amicable and kindly showed me his collection of vehicles one evening which I found most interesting. We had no noise problems what so ever. We would love to return another year as one week was not enough.

Accurate directions took us straight to our holiday accommodation. The cottage has been recently renovated and tastefully decorated, was spotlessly clean and contained everything we needed. Tea, coffee and milk were provided, so that we could make ourselves a hot drink on arrival. The owners were helpful and friendly and kindly supplied us with fresh eggs throughout the week. The location was perfect for visiting stately homes and other buildings of interest, as well as being within easy reach of the North York moors, the Yorkshire Dales and the City of York.

This lovely cottage was in an excellent position in a delightful quiet village within easy distance of the York PR bus, and very convenient for touring this area of Yorkshire. The owners were most friendly and we loved the roaming rabbits, chickens and pet dog. The neighbour was not noisy and kindly showed me around his steam traction engines which I found most interesting. The local eating out was excellent and the owners friendly and chatty.

Everything we needed was there in the cottage, which has been refurbished recently, so it was like walking into a new house. The owners were very friendly and they kindly provided tea, coffee and milk for our arrival, plus fresh eggs throughout the week! The cottage is very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and we felt very at home there. The Croft Granary is ideally placed for visiting many places of interest plus the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales.

Had a fabulous week. The owner met us on arrival and showed us around the property. Lovely cottage, very comfortable. It mentioned in the brochure that we may experience noise from the next door neighbour who renovates steam engines, but this was never a problem and the village was very peaceful. Would definitely recommend a stay.
